They help you to complete and submit a General Aviation Report (GAR) and inform you about the types of airport you can use to make your journey. The instructions explain: - What a General Aviation Report (GAR) is What powers are used to require a report Where aircraft can land and take off When you are asked to submit a General Aviation Report (GAR); When, how and where to send the GAR How to complete the GAR How GAR information is used Custom requirements when travelling to the UK The immigration and documentation requirements to enter the UK What to do if you see something suspicious What is a General Aviation Report (GAR)? General Aviation pilots, operators and owners of aircraft making Common Travel Area2 and international journeys in some circumstances are required to report their expected journey to the Police and/or the Border Force command of the Home Office. Border Force and the Police request that the report is made using a GAR. The GAR helps Border Force and the Police in securing the UK border and preventing crime and terrorism. What powers are used to require a report? PIERRE CLOSTERMANN Pierre-Henri Clostermann, né le 28 février 1921 à Curitiba (Brésil), mort le 22 mars 2006 à Montesquieu-des-Albères (Pyrénées-Orientales), est un aviateur français qui s'est distingué au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Surnommé « Premier chasseur de France »1, il est fait compagnon de la Libération avant de devenir une personnalité politique, un industriel et un écrivain. Biographie Pierre Clostermann est le fils d'un diplomate français - d'origine alsacienne et lorraine - en poste au Brésil, où il croise Jean Mermoz et Henri Guillaumet, alors pilotes de l'Aéropostale. En 1935, il reçoit son baptême de l'air sur l'hydravion Latécoère Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris sur l'étang de Biscarosse. En 1937, à l'âge de seize ans, il apprend à piloter sur un De Havilland Tiger Moth2 à l'aéroclub du Brésil à Manguinhos. Il apprend la voltige sur un Bücker Jungmann3 avec pour instructeur de voltige l'allemand Karl Benitz, qui fut tué en vol durant la guerre de 39-454. De 1937 à 1940, il prépare un diplôme d'ingénieur aéronautique au California Institute of Technology5 aux États-Unis. En 1940, il obtient son diplôme d'ingénieur en aéronautique et son brevet de pilote professionnel4. Il rejoint alors l'Angleterre, via le Brésil, l'Uruguay et l'Afrique du Sud, pour s'engager dans les Forces aériennes françaises libres (FAFL). Il a déjà 315 heures de vol à son actif4. Air Commodore Sir Arthur Vere Harvey, Baron Prestbury Cbe (R17-20)
AIR COMMODORE SIR ARTHUR VERE HARVEY, BARON PRESTBURY CBE (R17-20) He was born on 31 January 1906 in Suffolk. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1925 and qualified as a flying instructor. In 1930 he went to Hong Kong as a test pilot and representative of the Far East Aviation Co. He also founded the Far East Flying Training School. Two years later Gen Chang Kai Shek appointed him adviser to the South China Air Force, with the honorary rank of Major-General. He found himself in serious trouble when, flying an aircraft from Manchuria to Tientsin, he had to make a forced landing in Japan. That he was both white and associated with the Chinese did not commend him to the increasingly nationalistic Japanese authorities. He was held in a military prison for a month before being expelled with a fine of 500 yen (£25) and a lifetime ban on entering Japanese territory – a penalty that ended with that country’s defeat in 1945. He returned to England in 1937 to take part in the King’s Cup race, in which he came 4 th race with an average speed of 142.4 mph over the Miles-Whitney Straight. He then joined the Auxiliary Air Force with the rank of Squadron Leader and founded 615 County of Surrey Fighter Squadron. He took it to France in 1939 and won 2 mentions in dispatches. He then commanded a squadron in the Battle of Britain and was instrumental in persuading Winston Churchill to become its honorary Air Commodore. Some years later he revealed that in 1942 he had been responsible for planning the air side of a combined operations plan to seize a German occupied Alderney and hold it for three weeks. -
