John Hopkins

We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar, field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star.

O star of wonder, star of light, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain, gold I bring to crown him again, King forever, ceasing never, over us all to reign.

Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a Deity nigh; prayer and praising, voices raising, worshiping God on high.

Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom; sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

Glorious now behold him arise; King and God and sacrifice: Alleluia, Alleluia, sounds through the earth and skies.

Publishing information is on file in the parish office and available upon request.

Lord Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that you are present in this Blessed Sacrament as true God and true Man, with your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. My Redeemer and my Judge, I adore your Divine Majesty together with the angels and saints. I believe, O Lord; increase my faith.

Cf. Mt 2: 2 We have seen his star in the East, and have come with gifts to adore the Lord.

Traditional

The first Noel, the angels did say, was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay. In fields where they lay keeping their sheep on a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Noel, noel, noel, noel. Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw the star, shining in the east beyond them far. And to the earth it gave great light Greensleeves/William C. Dix/Arr. Sir John Stainer and so it continued both day and night. What child is this who laid to rest, And by the light of that same star, on Mary's lap is sleeping? three Wise Men came from country far. Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, To seek for a King was their intent, while shepherds watch are keeping? and to follow the star wherever it went. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, the babe the son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate, where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear, for sinners here the silent Word is pleading.

Nails, spear shall pierce him through the cross be borne for me for you: Hail, hail, the Word made flesh, the babe the son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh, come peasant, king to own Him; The King of Kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him.

Raise, raise, the song on high, the Virgin sings her lullaby; Joy, Joy, for Christ is born, Christina G. Rossetti, Gustav Holst the babe, the son of Mary.

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; Snow had fallen, softly, snow on snow, Traditional In the bleak midwinter, long ago. Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere. Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; Go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born. Heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign. While shepherds kept their watching o'er silent flocks by night, In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed Behold throughout the heavens, there shone a holy light: For the Lord Almighty, Jesus Christ. The shepherds feared and trembled, when lo! above the earth, What can I give him, poor as I am? Rang out the angel chorus that hailed our Savior's birth: If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part; Down in a lowly manger our humble Christ was born, Yet what I can I give him: give him my heart. And God sent us salvation, that blessed Christmas morn.
