  • Greg Davies Unites Top Comics for a Benefit Gig at London’S Eventim Apollo in Response to the Refugee Crisis
GREG DAVIES UNITES TOP COMICS FOR A BENEFIT GIG AT LONDON’S EVENTIM APOLLO IN RESPONSE TO THE REFUGEE CRISIS On Wednesday 11th November, top names from the comedy world are coming together to help raise funds for charities - ActionAid and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Stand Up in Action - the one off comedy benefit night at London’s Eventim Apollo, will see a host of stars perform in aid of the current overwhelming global refugee crisis - the largest since the Second World War. The evening, hosted by GREG DAVIES (The Inbetweeners, Man Down, Channel 4), will include performances from fellow comics JO BRAND (Getting On, BBC One, Bake Off, An Extra Slice, BBC Two), ROISIN CONATY (Man Down, Channel 4, Impractical Jokers, BBC Three), RUSSELL HOWARD (Russell Howard’s Good News, BBC Two), REGINALD D HUNTER (multiple Perrier nominee, Reginald D Hunter's Songs of the South, BBC Two), DARA O’BRIAIN (Mock The Week, BBC Two) and JACK WHITEHALL (Fresh Meat, Channel 4, Bad Education, BBC Three) to name a few. All proceeds from the gig will be equally split between ActionAid and UNHCR to provide much needed support and assistance to refugees. ActionAid works with some of the world’s poorest women and children. They have been working with Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon since 2013, supporting over 90,000 people in the region and providing them with essential items such as clothing, hygiene items, torches, first aid kits as well as longer term support working with refugees in local communities. With the increase of migration to Europe, the island of Lesbos is often the first stop in Europe for many.

Introduction to the Economic Assessment 1.2 The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009 places a duty on county councils and unitary district councils to prepare an assessment of the economic conditions of their area. This new duty comes into force on 1st April 2010, at which point local authorities must begin to prepare their assessments. The purpose of the Economic Assessment (EA) is to provide a robust evidence base that will underpin strategic planning, investment decisions and delivery plans. 1.3 The Leicester and Leicestershire Leadership Board made a decision to develop a sub-regional EA in 2009, in advance of the statutory requirement. It was also agreed that a single EA be developed to cover Leicester City and Leicestershire County. 1.4 A dedicated EA project team has gathered, analysed and interpreted a vast amount of evidence over the past few months. This has come from a wide range of sources including national statistics, local statistics and bespoke research studies undertaken within the sub- region.

  • BID Leicester Business Plan
BUSINESS PLAN 2018-2023 INTRODUCTION FROM THE C0-CHAIRS We are both delighted to introduce to you the Business Plan for the Leicester Business Improvement District (BID). This plan has been developed after extensive engagement and consultation with the businesses in Leicester city centre within the BID area. A steering group made up of representatives from over 20 businesses from across the different sectors in Leicester city centre has been working hard to engage with businesses to get their feedback to inform this plan. Leicester is now the only major UK city without a BID and never has the time been more appropriate to secure the future of the city. The last 12 months have seen significant change in the city and not just as a consequence of the discovery of the remains of King Richard III or Leicester City Football Club’s Premier League title and Champions League success. The city’s confidence has grown from recent extensive investment and development, attracting new businesses to the city centre. Leicester is truly beginning to believe in its own potential. The comprehensive consultation identified that the focus for a Leicester BID should be on delivering a more welcoming, more accessible, safer city centre that is better promoted to drive business day and night and where the business community is actively supported. All these aspects would contribute to Leicester being increasingly recognized as a destination of choice. A BID is a great way to tap into this potential to see Leicester grow and deliver a better experience for people who work, visit, and live in the city.

comedy training courses “Top comedy courses”: Chortle.co.uk ABSOLUTE AND ALMOST BEGINNERS COMEDY COURSE led by LUKE TOULSON on MONDAY EVENINGS in central London “Amazing. Surpassed all my expectations. 100% recommend to others” “Atmosphere was supportive, generous and enjoyable. Genuine personalised attention” “I’d recommend it to anyone. Brilliant. Invaluable” Have you ever wanted to try your hand at stand-up comedy? Do you dream of becoming the next Josh Widdicombe, Greg Davies or Rhod Gilbert? Maybe you want to improve your ability to make presentations or a Best Man speech? Perhaps you are looking for a new experience or an exciting challenge? If so, then the answer is the frequently recommended Absolute and Almost Beginners Comedy Course led by award-winning “gifted comic" (Sunday Times) Luke Toulson. “Luke is fabulous … so much energy and enthusiasm” (today’s comment from his current course). This practical, in-depth course explores the fundamentals of creating and performing stand-up in a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere. You will discover how to generate original material and how to hone your ideas into well-written jokes. You will learn stage craft, including delivery, performance skills and microphone technique. You will find out how to deal with nerves and hecklers. But most of all, you will become the best and funniest performer you possibly can, having discovered how to communicate effectively with your audience in your own unique way. During the eight evening sessions there will be ongoing opportunities to practice stand-up routines throughout the course. By the end you will have evolved into fledgling comedians, ready to take part in the hugely enjoyable, though optional, graduation showcase, compered by the course leader, to demonstrate your newly acquired skills.
