Stop at the Belize Zoo en route for an education experience. O/N Crystal Paradise Resort. /D Day 2: BARTON CREEK CAVE / BUTTERFLY FARM/BIG ROCK FALLS Most people find the canoe tour by torchlight through this cave unforgettable. Its large river passage and pristine formations are just two of the reasons why this appeals to both local and foreign visitors. Besides its natural beauty the site is made even more interesting by the presence of a wide range of archaeological remains that were left there by the ancient Maya visitors. Archaeologists believe that this cave was used for ritual purposes. Visit the Green Hills Butterfly Ranch for an education tour to learn about the different species of Butterflies in Belize, their habitat, and life cycle. B/L/D Day 3: CARACOL MAYA RUINS/ RIO FRIO CAVE/RIO ON POOLS After breakfast we drive to Caracol as we traverses through the Mountain Pine Ridge area. The road travels over a series of creeks, through lush tropical forest and pine forest, habitat for a variety of bird species. The highest canopy rainforest is home to several species of cats, as well as rare birds such as the Keel-Billed Mot Mot, Crested Guan, Great Curassow and the Occelated Turkey. A wide variety of orchids, vines and trees are also found in the area. This site is home to the tallest man-made structure in Belize, Canna (sky palace), standing some 143 ft above the plaza floor. The discovery of Alter 23, which shows bound captives, indicates that Caracol was an extremely fierce and war like center. A gallery like one has never seen before! Over 200 ceramic vessels adorn the chambers of Actun Tunichil Muknal. The culture, history and geological formations create an unrivalled natural museum. Travel back in time as we explore this large cave, untouched since the Maya last visited centuries ago. Located in the heart of the Tapir Mountain Nature reserve, 6,700 acres managed by the Belize Audubon society, a huge entrance in a limestone hill welcomes you at the end of your 45-minute walk through lush, undisturbed jungle vegetation. B/L/D Day 5: FREE DAY Today you relax and explore the area on own, you are also welcome to book additional tours directly with our front desk or arrange for a visit to San Ignacio Town. O/N Crystal Paradise Resort. B/L/D Day 6: CAVE TUBING Cave tubing is one of most popular and fun tour to do in Belize. Caves Branch (Nooch Chen) consists of a series of caves found on the caves branch river located about 1 ½ hrs drive from the lodge. Once we get there you can change into your swimwear grab an inner tube, life jacket and headlamp and off we go on an easy 45 minute walk on a jungle trail as your guide explains the plants and wildlife you may encounter and see along the way. Swim in one of Belize crystal clear river or getting started on the fun part is sitting on the inner tube to float through the caves. O/N Crystal Paradise Resort. B/L/D Day 7: HORSEBACK RIDING/RIVER CANOEING/BELIZE BOTANICAL GARDENS Morning: Enjoy the fresh air and the beauty of the Belizean country side, while on your way to one or more of the attractions. Ride over rolling hills and trails leading to a swimming hole for a refreshing swim. Afternoon: For your Macal River canoeing adventure we will drive 4.5 miles upstream so you can canoe down back to the resort. While canoeing we have the opportunity to see different species of birds along with other wildlife that frequent the riverbanks such as iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks and trees. Half way on your canoeing trip you will have the opportunity to stop and explore the Belize Botanical Gardens.
