The upcoming international congress, which is organized from the Swiss Military Medical Services with collaborators of the Swiss Universities, is an event of great magnitude, scientific and professional, having a shape and content specialized in the various fields of military medicine and disaster management involving approximately 120 international keynote speakers. The international conference is composed of plenary and keynote session, as well as a number of simultaneous meetings, round tables, oral presentations and posters rounds on different topics. The world congress is held biennially and lasts five days, whereof four days for scientific content and one day for social activities. The scientific event attracts approximately 1000 delegates from about 120 countries. The congress serves as an international forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences on key issues in military medicine and disaster management, contributing towards promoting evidence-based cutting-edge healthcare at a national and global level. The congress motto is "medicine on the move", implicating the acceleration of medical multidisciplinary innovations to influence the growing need for patient-oriented, tailored and sustainable elucidations intended for a high-quality healthcare management. The access to evidence-based clinical practice/skills, medical high-technologies as well as effective electronic communication tools become increasingly important to preventing, diagnosing, treating and following up patients, moving toward integrated care. This scientific international event will generate bright ideas for new activities in the young clinicians/researchers, which are the essential first step to medical innovation success in the future. The Conference of the States Parties (hereinafter “the Conference”) at its First Session established the conditions under which laboratories may seek designation (C-I/DEC.60, C-I/DEC.61, C-I/DEC.62, and C-I/DEC.65, all dated 22 May 1997), and at its Fifth Session (C-V/6, dated 19 May 2000) mandated the Executive Council (hereinafter “the Council”) to take a decision regarding guidelines on the designation of laboratories for the analysis of authentic samples. The Council took this decision at its Twentieth Session (EC-XX/DEC.3, dated 28 June 2000). Additional guidelines on the designation of laboratories for the analysis of authentic samples were adopted by the Conference at its Twentieth Session (C-20/DEC.4, dated 2 December 2015). 2. When designating laboratories for the analysis of authentic samples, and in accordance with C-I/DEC.61 and C-I/DEC.65, the Director-General takes the following into account: (a) whether the laboratory has established a quality system in accordance with the standards (ISO/IEC 17025:2005 or equivalent) and has valid accreditation by an internationally recognised accreditation body for the tasks for which it is seeking designation—namely, for the analysis of chemical warfare agents and related compounds in various types of samples; and (b) whether the laboratory has performed successfully in the proficiency testing programme of the OPCW. 3. A laboratory must participate in the proficiency testing programme at least once per calendar year unless the additional guidelines in C-20/DEC.4 are applicable.

In the Middle Ages the pope frequently gave a special cross flag to a king or other ruler undertaking some military campaign in the name of Christianity. Other rulers chose the same cross symbol to declare their faith and their belief that their enterprise was a holy one. The well-known and striking flag of Switzerland ultimately is based on the imperial war flag of the Holy Roman Empire, which bore a white cross on red. Many Swiss soldiers served in the imperial army as well as in their own cantons.
