Angels are a Dogma of Catholic Faith.

Angels are spiritual beings who were created by God to serve Him. As purely spiritu- al beings, angels do not have physical bodies as we do. They can appear in human form and interact with us, but those bodies are only temporary illusions. But as creat- ed beings, they exist within time as we do and do not know the future unless God re- veals it to them.

The existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that Sacred Scripture usually calls “angels” is a truth of faith. The life of Jesus as man and as God in the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity shows numerous encounters with the angels. (The Cate- chism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 328). Because we believe in Jesus as Christ we must also believe in angels.

Angels were created to serve, praise, worship and pray to God. In the process of serv- ing God, they are also commanded to protect, inspire, encourage, and pray for us and guide us during our journey on Earth. Angels are a real and active force in our lives.

And yes, everyone has a guardian . Paragraph 336 of the Catechism tells us that from our beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession.

Our Guardian Angels love us and do everything within God’s Will to protect us from harm. When we sin we reject God and our angels protection.

Angels also pray for us. We see in Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8 that the angels con- tinue to sing and pray to God, “Holy, Holy, Holy.” We also see in Tobit 12:12 and Revelation 5:8 and 8:3 that along with the Saints who are in Heaven, the angels serve as intercessors for us in prayer to God. For this reason, Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:10 not to despise or bring harm to children, “for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.”

How many angels did God create? According to 7:10, there are so many of them that the angels cannot be counted by human standards but they and God know how many of them there are. And yet, as St. Thomas Aquinas teaches, each angel is unique and no two angels are the same. Every angel is as distinct from one another as a dog is to a cat.

Are there female angels? No, and technically there are not any male either. Since they are spirits and do not have bodies, they do not have a gender and thus they can- not be male or female. Jesus is an exception because He became both 100% God and 100% man when He was conceived in the womb of the Virgin May (John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 2:19). All angelic beings have a purpose and June 30, 2019 perform different functions. According to theological traditions inspired from Sunday what the Bible makes reference to in 1Kgs 19:16b,19-21 Ps 16:1-2,5,7-11 various passages, there are nine choirs of angels organized in a heavenly Gal5:1,13-18 Lk9:51-62 hierarchy: Seraphim, Cherubim, Monday Thrones, Dominions, Powers, Virtues Principalities, , and Angels. Gn18:16-33 Ps103:1b-4,8-11 Mt 8;18-22 The Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones Tuesday mediate upon the person, Wisdom, and Judgment of God. The Dominions, Gn 19:15-=29 Ps 26:2-3,9-12 Mt 8:23-27 Powers, and Virtues govern the forces of nature and the Universe as a whole. Wednesday St. Thomas, Apostle Finally, Principalities are guardians of Eph 2:19-22 Ps117:1b-2 Jn20:24-29 nations and cities, Archangels are guardians of special people, and An- Thursday gels are guardians and messengers to us all. Gn 22:1b-19 Ps 115:1-6,8-9 Mt9:1-8 Friday And we know the names of the who lead the angelic host Gn23:1-4,19:24:1-8,62-67 Ps106:1b-5 (Tobit 12:15, Revelation 8:2); three are Mt9:9-13 mentioned in Scripture and four from historical tradition. They are Saint , Saint , Saint , , , , and Remiel. As of Council of Rome in 745 under the reign of Pope Saint Zaachary, the Catholic Church officially only acknowledges the names of three of the Offertory Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Date Amount Attendance Raphael because they are the only ones mentioned by name in the Bible. 06-23-2019 $10,923.00 824
