    Report to Queensland Parliament Mr Stephen Andrew MP Member for Mirani Queensland Parliamentary Delegation to Vanuatu 24th June - 5th July 2019 1 Honourable Members, I table this report for the information of the House on behalf of the Queensland Parliamentary Delegation to Vanuatu. The delegation comprised myself, the Member for Mirani, Mr Stephen Andrew MP, the Honourable Speaker of the House Mr Curtis Pitt and Mr George Hasanakos, Executive Officer, Office of the Speaker. This delegation was sent to renew the twinning arrangements between both Queensland and Vanuatu Parliaments; and to reunite Mr Stephen Andrew MP with his ancestral home of Ambae Island, devastated by the Monaro Volcano to best understand how to help and work with the displaced Communities. Mr Stephen Andrew MP Member for Mirani Queensland Legislative Assembly 2 Purpose of the Travel The primary purpose of this travel was to visit the Vanuatu Parliament and sign a new twinning agreement between the Queensland Parliament and the National Parliament of Vanuatu. However the travel also included a range of other events which supported the relationship between Queensland and Vanuatu. This included a trip to Ambae, the ancestral home of the Stephen Andrew MP who is the first Member of the Queensland Parliament of South Sea Islander heritage. This bond was to strengthen the relationship between Queensland and Vanuatu. I thank the Honourable Member for his assistance in the trip and for his work in supporting closer relations between Queensland and Vanuatu. The trip was held between 24 June and the 5 August 2019. The itinerary is enclosed at Attachment A .

This is an interview for the Minnesota Historical Society Somali Oral History Project. I am with Ali Khalif Galaydh. We are in Shoreview, Minnesota. It is February 10, 2014. Ali Khalif Galaydh is a talented Somali politician, educator on a professorial level, and at times even a businessman. As a professor he taught at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He was a fellow at Weatherhead Center of International Affairs and Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University. In Somalia he had several titles, but the highest office was when he became the fourth-ever Somali prime minister in 2000. In Somali circles Ali is also known for his intellectual prowess and political versatility. Ali, welcome to the interview—third time again. AG: Thank you very much, Ahmed. AY: Okay, I want to start from where were you born and when were you born, even though we don’t actually acknowledge that at all. AG: Somalis normally don’t celebrate birthdays, so there is now quite an always heated discussion about who is older than who. But in my case, my father was in the British Merchant Marine, and he therefore recorded when I was born. There was no birth certificate, but I was born October 15, 1941.
