At the time of the survey 7 residents attended a focus discussion group. This is what people told us: They had easy access to their doctors surgery Everyone felt safe They could choose what they did each day They go shopping regularly and are able to go to church Staff supported them and were kind and they felt treated well Majority of people said they were happy living there We also received comments such as: “Staff are good and they look after us” “Really like it here” “Food is good” North Lincolnshire Council’s Annual Performance Assessment Our current overall assessment took place on 5 & 7 September 2012 Outcome This year’s score Last year’s score Health Very good N/A Safe Fair Independent Good Involved Good In control Good Respect Good Confident in the future Good Health: Records show that people’s mental and physical health is monitored and they are encouraged and supported to access doctors and health professionals etc as required. The staff we spoke to were able to clearly describe the process for administering and storing medication. People were regularly asked if they enjoyed their food and people’s likes, dislikes and allergies are recorded in the kitchen and taken into account when planning meals. Staff have been trained in infection control and those we spoke to were able to describe the process and the guidelines they follow. The environment was clean and pleasant with no odours. Connect to Support – North Lincolnshire An information hub and eMarketplace for social care and support services Safe: Safeguarding and whistle blowing procedures were in place and staff we spoke to told us that they have received training in safeguarding adults and were clear on the process to follow in raising any concerns they may have and they felt confident that this would be acted upon. The interior and exterior of the building was pleasant and appeared well maintained. Staff were due to undertake further fire safety training. All fire, health and safety inspections were up to date. Independent: We found that people were encouraged to personalise their own bedrooms with their own belongings and choice of colour scheme. The home has its own minibus and people go out with support into the local community. People are encouraged and supported with daily life tasks such as shopping, cleaning and washing. Involved: Our assessment of this service has shown us that people are respected and involved in their care. People are encouraged and supported to get involved in activities that are happening in the local community, however it was thought that this could be further extended. We found that support plans were written in simple language with pictures and were audited regularly. Consent to share information forms were being reviewed by the organisation. The views of people who use the services were sought through questionnaires and at regular meetings. In control: People have their own choice of when they like to get up and go to bed with some preferring a late breakfast. It was therefore agreed between the residents that the main meal would be at teatime with a lighter lunch being served. There are no set daily plans and activities are impromptu and what residents wish to do. The home had clear and complete records for financial transactions that were audited regularly. Respect: The staff we spoke to were able to describe clearly the need for confidentiality about an individual’s care and all were aware of the “No Gifts” policy and were professional in their dealings with people at the home. Advocacy services attend Sunningdale Court regularly to give support to residents, and staff were fully aware of how to signpost or request this service for people at the home. Confident in the future: Staff told us that they received mandatory training and additional training was always on offer, either in-house or externally, to develop skills and competencies and this seemed to have improved since the new Manager came into post. We looked at examples of staff appraisals and supervisions and these were up to date. Regular staff meetings were being undertaken and staff told us that they felt they were able to raise any concerns or make suggestions. Connect to Support – North Lincolnshire An information hub and eMarketplace for social care and support services This home must also be compliant with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rules and regulations and the latest compliance report is available from the Care Quality Commission: telephone number: 03000 616161 website: www.cqc.org.uk e-mail address: [email protected] Improvements to be made in the next year: Risk assessments will be written in a person centred way to incorporate positive outcomes for individuals. Mental Capacity Assessments will be incorporated into the new Care Planning and Assessment process for individuals New support plan will include section on consent and sharing of information. This has already been devised in draft format ready for implementation in March 2013. Service User Guide to reflect the 'Making It Real' project. HICA to introduce a Pet Policy.
