To quote label boss Ulf Eriksson in a recent Groove interview: "To release on Kontra you need to have developed a unique and A2 personal sound. If you are one of the machines out there producing electronic music for the dead, look elsewhere." For us, the Kontra-Musik X release was an emblem of our label's history, filled with unique and B1 personal sounds. But in one instance one may rightfully claim Kontra-Musik's conventionality: our record sleeves are generally black & white. On X Color, however, we decided to make our murky label a bit more B2 colorful by letting a handful of our favorite artists present their own takes of classic Kontra tracks. As a figure of speech, these artists repaint the tracks with their own colors. Sebastian Mullaert and Porn Sword C1 Tobacco, for instance, work with very warm and vibrant colors while Max Loderbauer's choice is much more austere. Upon finding the original LP on Westbound Records, they knew it was time to give it the 45 Rocafort treatment. Although much of Rachmad's music has been influential on the development of Token from B1 the beginning, there is one body of work in particular that encapsulates the essence of the label, in a C1 classic and inimitable form. Scorp was a self-contained label project operating between 2000 and 2004. TECHNO / ELECTRO / USA EXPERIM. A1 The Argentinian based NGLY had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the Brooklyn based L.I.E.S. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. On this ep, the unsuspecting track "Speechless A2 Tape" ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (I-F, Mick Wills, Intergalactic Gary...) B1 eventually leading to it being voted as Intergalactic FM's #1 track of the year in 2014. On the heels of his B2 successful debut Rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. Sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, C1 recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound. In the end we get his debut eight track lp, Cities of C2 Illusion, a record that walks a fine line between many of the original strains of the electronic realm. The elements are all there to be picked apart, to be used, to be abused, thrown against the wall smashed to D1 bits...played in the club or on the late night mix shows, it's magic you heard in the past and crave in the D2 present

Batshit crazy Latin funk track that was originally released on Columbia's INS label before also being A1 released on Miami Mogul and close friend of James Brown, Henry Stone's ' Blue Candle' Label. 'Hallelujah' was clearly not a hit on either label as any pressing of the rare beast is going to set you back £500 pounds plus and don't sound great due to a bad pressing. We did a bit of cleaning and got our masters at Timmion cutting laboratory to do their thing and came away with the loudest pressing you're ever going to manage of this beast, Watch Your Bassbins I'm Tellin' Ya. On the flip 'Jonny's Theme' a cool soundtracky number with B1 cracking drums and a wonderfully intense structure, more complex that the a side in timing structure and featuring some nice Kes style flutes

This month Athens of the North presents two 45's from a true musical genius, Weldon Irvine. Here on the first A1 we have 2 classic sides taken from the 1974 LP Spirit Man on RCA. Surprisingly neither tracks have been issued on 45 despite being spun on many scenes since the early 80s. 'We Gettin' Down' is a sophisticated synth and strings funk masterpiece that reminds me of old Jazz Funk sets from the early 80s. The flip 'The B1 Power and the Glory' is is a Jazz Dance monster if the highest order. I have probably trashed 3 copies of this LP djing so happy be able to tuck these into my 45 box

Neko Neko drops the first part of his "Between Two Cities" series, entitled "Where", backed by remixes from everyone's favourite French beat-maker, Fulgeance. Neko Neko's original mix on the A-side pairs lush harp A1 samples with hefty kicks, claps and layered percussion loops. The track evolves nicely til the halfway point when it shifts direction, breaking down to a cosmic arpeggiated synth line that gets tweaked away while the other elements are expertly weaved in and out of the mix. On the flip Fulgeance takes things down and dirty with a brutal remix aimed squarely at the clubs, chopping and filtering the main riff and layering it over his trademark rugged beats and subwoofer-shattering bass. This is followed by thugged out vocal samples and some innovative vocoder work. To top things off, Fulgeance contributes another remix as a B1 digital-only bonus track under his "Claude" alias, which comes free with the vinyl version via a download card. This time he steps up into housier territory with more subdued but still excellent synth melodies and uplifting piano chords. Limited to 300 copies

With the highly anticipated release of Thorsteinssøn's 'Academy of Heroes' album on the horizon, Pets A1 Recordings have decided the flip the switch early and precede the longplayer with a fantastic trio of remixes. Academy of Heroes is described as 'deliciously cosmic and cheerily schizophrenic' and looking to break down and reconstruct some of this glorious frenzy are three exciting producers, each of which have chosen a track from the album to remix. First up is London based Pets pal Ashworth, who returns to the B1 label for the first time since December's 'Collapsed' ep. 'Sixtrack Blues' is the track of choice with Ashworth harnessing the originals dreamy vibe and adding a punchy guitar driven groove.
