Але з часом збагнула, що суть не стільки в ній, скільки в ставленні американців до життя і своїх проблем. The article covers the phenomenon of rock music in the lives of young residents of the western regions of Soviet Ukraine, which differed significantly from the rest of the territory of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and the entire USSR. The article demonstrates the peculiarities among which this music was mastered, its existence in the youth society – from fashionable dance music to the core of nonconformitsm to the Soviet system. It was reflected in the names officially and unofficially used for rock music and its performers (Big beat, vocal-instrumental ensemble, etc.), as well as in relation to official factors (from tolerance to the prohibition). Consumers of rock music did not necessarily have to be opposed to the Soviet regime. However, the active “immersion” in rock music, and the related counterculture spheres (from the late 1960s onwards, and more and more), contributed to the formation of an alternative life style, which manifested itself in particular: listening to banned radio stations, the style of clothing that was associated with rock music, space for free performance / listening to rock music and exchanging information and impressions (“tusovka”).

Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University TRANSLATION AS A FORM OF LITERARY RELATIONSHIP OF UKRAINE DURING ITS INDEPENDENCE (2000–2013) The article is devoted to the problem of the translation of works Ukrainian poets and writers into English. The situation is analyzed of book typography and edition Ukrainian in Europe and abroad in the period from 2000 to 2013. The tendency is described in the flow of translations from the Ukrainian to foreign languages after Ukraine’s independence and are defined some prospects for the development of this activity. Conditionally independence is divided into three publishing periods. The first period of 1991–1999 was the beginning of the formation and development of independent Ukraine. The second period – 2000–2013. The third period – 2014 and to this day. The work is filled with the names of prominent Ukrainians, who create Ukrainian and translators who serve and can serve as the basis for the future strategy of popularizing Ukrainian works abroad. The important role was noted in the dissemination of high quality translation literature by publishing houses. The literature of this period is classified according to the genres in chronological order. No less important factor in the presentation of the Ukrainian word is the direct participation of the artists themselves in various cultural events, festivals and open reading. The review and analysis of translations Ukrainian literature in English during this period shows that the acquisition of the English-language reader by the translated products of Ukrainian origin is gradual, but too slow and insignificant.

Headlining the show were singer/song- writer Vika Vasilevych of Ukraine and vir- tuoso violinist Vasyl Popadiuk, originally from Ukraine and now of Canada, with their respective bands. Also on the bill were the always popular Roma Pryma Bohachevsky Dance Workshop and the Dunai Dancers of Edmonton, Alberta, new- comers to the festival. Each group of dancers presented its unique version of the “Pryvit” (Welcome) number at the start of the program – the workshop dancers resplendent in their costumes modeled on garb worn by Kozak nobility and the Dunai members in a vari- ety of folk costumes representing diverse regions of Ukraine. The regional variety was wonderfully reflected also in the Canadian troupe’s choice of music and cho- reography. Other performers included the Ukrainian Lev Khmelkovsky Christine Syzonenko Chorus Dumka of New York, the Dzvin Male Violinist Vasyl Popadiuk and singer-songwriter Vika (Vasilevich) perform during the Ukrainian Cultural Festival at Soyuzivka.

This was the year that Ukraine was to Esign an Association Agreement with the European Union. There were stops and starts along the way – with Ukraine delivering on some issues, but refusing to budge on others (e.g., the release of imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko). Nonetheless, the administra- tion of President Viktor Yanukovych repeatedly stated that Kyiv was moving toward Europe. In the end, however, Yanukovych and company decided not to sign the agree- ment, opting instead for a deal with Russia. The year began with news of the latest report from Freedom House. “Freedom in the World 2013” noted a note- worthy decline in freedoms in Ukraine. Freedom House wrote: “With Russia setting the tone, Eurasia (consisting of the countries of the former Soviet Union minus the Baltic states) now rivals the Middle East as one of the most repres- sive areas on the globe. Indeed, Eurasia is in many respects the world’s least free subregion, given the entrenchment of autocrats in most of its 12 countries.
