The month of May was a real turning point in the 2018 garden year. We suddenly had clear blue skies and sunshine and the cold winter with the ‘beast from east’ was well behind us; and then right at the end of the month the thunder storms poured much needed rain that generated so much growth in early June. Lush is the word that comes to mind when describing gardens and our gardens in North Powys are looking even better than we dared hope for. We have lots of garden openings in July and August, including a second chance to visit Hurdley Hall at Churchstoke where the Bishops Castle swing band will be playing on the Sunday afternoon. Other gardens range from the delightful small gardens at Little House, and Broniath Hall at to the 24 acres with wildflower meadows found at Cwm Weeg at Dolfor and new 4 acre riverside garden, Ceunant at . Wherever you go remember to take lots of photographs and enter our Photography Competition; it would be great to see a Powys garden among the winning photos. More information, including terms and conditions, can be found at www.ngs.org.uk/photo/ Do you know a garden full of quality, character and interest? At this time of the year we are looking for new gardens for 2019, so if you, or someone you know, would like to share their garden and raise money for charity, please get in touch with our County Organiser, Susan Paynton, tel. 01686 650531. You can discover more about our gardens and the charities supported by the National Garden Scheme in our 2018 Powys booklets and at www.ngs.org.uk .
