Andrew Mathieson To Megan We walk into church and pray Listen to the organist play We don't see a face that makes the sound Nor feet that up and down base boards pound. They also pull out all the stops, left n'right While tinkling manuals with all their might. Yes, it's very hard work an organ to play But, a joy to listen to Megan play. Now it's Megan's turn to 'hear' it play As she looks down on us to say 'Thank you Megan, you deserve a rest, To serve your church, you did your BEST'. Anon. The Young Folks of St Beuno’s Congratulations and every blessing for our two new full members – Louise and Millie – confirmed by Bishop Gregory at our Cathedral in St Asaph. It was a joy to see a number of folks from our southern end of the Diocese –from Cedewain and Pool Mission areas - coming together for this important step on their Christian journey; the youngest still in Primary school and the eldest in their 80’s – it’s never too late to show discipleship. Being Pentecost Sunday – Bishop Gregory and his assistants were robed in red splendour – representing the gift of the Spirit: surely a momentous time for all the candidates and their families – and one to be cherished for time to come. Little saints: We met together in the Old School on June 9th – a time when we were encouraged to think about story-telling. We discovered a little about Jesus’ special stories – the Parables – and then listened to - and acted out, thanks to our vicar - the story of the sower – probably one of his most well-known of parables . We played some games, and then had an opportunity to decorate our own story boxes. We learned that a story box tells something of us – as we collect little mementoes – over time – that will tell others about us – and remind us ourselves of happy times in our life. We plan to gather something to put in a time capsule – at our summer meeting in the holidays – more of that in next newsletter. We also planted some seeds – becoming little sowers – be good to see how successful we were at our next meeting on Saturday 14th July – 10.00-12.15pm All welcome! when we shall be in summer mood – little grains of sand make a beach! St Beuno’s Choir and Organists/pianists We continue to encourage folks to come and sing with us – or play the keyboards – if you want some fun – come and join us at practice on Wednesdays in the Old School – 6.00- 7.15pm – with a welcome cuppa and chat to recover at the end! If you would like further information on any of the above – please contact the Vicar, Esther or our wardens. We want to keep our music lively and alive! Can you help? Berriew Mothers’ Union May Meeting. Iris, our leader, welcomed everyone and then conducted a short devotional service. She expressed our sadness at the loss of a long dedicated member Megan Rowlands. Megan, who for many years was Church organist, took an active roll in Mothers’ Union and was a faithful member. Our thoughts and prayers go to her family at this sad time. We also remembered member Betty Parker who has recently lost her husband George after a long and happy marriage. Our deepest sympathy go to both families. A warm welcome was given to the speaker for the afternoon who was Helen Saxon-Jones. Helen developed Arthritis in her childhood and had been a sufferer for the last 30years ! Her bravery shone though as she described her condition and how she has coped over the years, leading an active life which includes bringing up children. Helen told us about ‘Arthritis Care’ a U.K.-wide charity offering guidance, information and support to fellow suffers. The organisation runs many mentoring and activity sessions which help sufferers of this crippling and debilitating disease. We were all impressed with her talk and were amazed at the amount of arthritis in the Community. Iris thanked Helen for her most interesting and informative talk. On 5th June we were given a very warm welcome by Welshpool Mothers’ Union to join them and other M. Us for an afternoon . The speaker was Peter Barton whose subject was ‘ Welshpool women in the Middle Ages’ After his interesting talk we all were treated to a delightful scrumptious tea ! The summer outing is on Wednesday 27th June and we hope for a fine sunny day to enjoy Gregynog Hall and Tregynon Church. On September 26th we return to the Old School when the speaker will be Revd. Alexis Smith. This meeting will begin at 2p.m. so try and come along and join in the fellowship of Mothers’ Union. Ann Dixon Sent by Peter Watkin: It was on a summer evening At the end of summer's day, As the evening shadows lengthened Memories drifted unto me. Where are those I call to memory Of distant days so long ago? Do their souls journey onwards Have they entered heaven's door? All the old familiar faces In yellowed photos look so staid, Do they still continue onwards Have they ended in the grave? Life to them was stern and earnest Pride demanded, effort made, Gain and progress so important Something lost and something saved. Make the most of time allotted For we know not where it leads, Some do promise heavenly mansions Others say we are dormant seeds. Dormant seeds that are planted Resting in the peaceful shade, Waiting for the eternal springtide First the root and then the blade. What is all this strain and striving Work and toil in which we trust, But, remember fame and fortune Returns forever to the dust. Can we hope for what is promised For the bliss of eternal life, Do our souls go marching onwards To that bright and glorious light? If I knew, I would tell you Oh! I wish that it was so, But the day is swiftly coming When instead of doubt – we'll know.
