Namasthe Report NAMASTE WINGS TO FLY KANTHALOOR PROJECT FIRST ROUND REPORT JULY 2015 The completion of the project will ensure better living standards and increased income. 'Namaste Wings to Fly' Kanthalloor Project Supporting Drinking Water Supply Project This project is under the Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Jalanidhi) of the Govt of Kerala with World Bank support. Through the Central govt, the World Bank will provide 75% of the cost, the Gramapanchayath has to provide 15% and the Namaste Italy president Madam Valeria visiting project area beneficiaries 10%. For the SC and ST community, the contribution fixed is 5%. The total cost of the project in Kanthalloor Gramapanchayath is estimated at 8 crores.A support of 20,000 Rs each to the beneficiary committees from NAMASTHE will help a long way to complete the schemes NAMSTE SUPPORT ONGOING JALANIDHI PROJECT Check dams are constructed at the source of the springs and through gravity the water is brought to tanks. After filtration the water is transmitted to each household with separate connection. The average distance from the source to the household is 4 KMs. The transmission is done through GI Pipes. All the construction is done as per the guidelines of the World Bank. The leveling surveys and Detailed Scheme Reports (DSR ) have been prepared. Study based on socio economic survey has also been prepared. INCOME GENERATION The poor people especially women and children have to spend a lot of time and travel to collect water for drinking and other purposes. There are many cases where the women are not able to go as laborers. Animal husbandry and back yard cultivation are also affected due to non availability of water. This project will take care of these two aspects. The major cultivation is winter vegetable crops with duration of 1 month to 3 months. Because the scheme is based on gravity the households will get water for all the 24hrs SUPPORT FROM NAMASTHE The total cost of each of the 35 schemes comes to 15 lakhs 50 lakhs. The total cost of the project is 8 crores. 90% of the cost is taken care of by the Government and Community mobilization Grama Panchayath. The beneficiary cost envisages is 10%. The SC/ST contribution is limited to 5%. The support organization and the Grama Pachayath with the participation of beneficiary committees are trying to collect maximum amount possible. A support of 20,000 Rs each to the beneficiary committees from NAMASTHE will help a long way to complete the schemes.. WHY NAMSTE SUPPORT THIS PROJECT? 73% area of Kanthallur Gramapanchayath is covered by forest. The only source of income for the community is agriculture. Winter crops are the major crops. Naturally, the cultivation is seasonal. Since the area is rocky, it is impossible to dig wells and irrigate land. The people collect water for drinking from Springs far away. They have to walk several kilometers to fetch the water. The Jalanidhi project of the State government supported by World Bank is being implemented in the Panchayath. 75% of the expenses are met through the World Bank support, 15% by the Panchayath and 10% by the Beneficiaries. The Beneficiary contribution per person will community mobilization cultural activities come up to Rs. 4000. The poorest of the poor who could not afford to raise this amount was supported by Namaste. The Namaste's help has ensured that drinking water is available for all households in their respective houses. A sanitation program is also being implemented.
