High-end restaurants have gone from being predominantly French or British throughout the 20th century to depicting today a distinctive Irish tone. I have referred to this fashion as new Irish cuisine (NIC), a concept that attempts to enclose all fine-dining ventures that serve modern Irish food in Ireland and their common cooking ethos. This research has aimed to investigate thoroughly the nature of this culinary identity from a Bourdieuian perspective and to contextualize its emergence.

Our year starts and ends with the magnificent music of Beethoven, a quarter of a millenium old. Between these milestones of the Midwinter Festival in January and the Ninth Symphony in December, we unveil the first edition of Cellissimo, our new triennial festival, in April / May, featuring a dazzling array of music and musicians.     EUROPE WEEK 5TH-12TH MAY 2013 Activities and events marking European Year of Citizens 2013 40th anniversary of Ireland in the EU Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union EUROPE WEEK Europe Day is celebrated every year on 9th May to mark the genesis of what has become a Union of 27 countries. Because this year is a special year for Ireland in the EU, we are designating a whole week to events and activities with a European focus. Why is 2013 a significant year? We in Ireland are marking forty years as a Member State of the EU. We are also celebrating the European Year of Citizens. And from January until June, we are holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Being in charge of the European agenda means that Ireland is chairing 1600 meetings, 180 of which are taking place in Ireland. We have been using this leadership role in the pursuit of stability, jobs and growth in Europe. It is an opportunity for people to participate in debate, culture, entertainment and other social activities with Europe at their heart. The same year he was invited by The Royal Dublin Society to conduct the “Irish Ring” (Maritana, The Bohemian Girl and The Lily of Killarney). For the occasion he was commissioned by them to make a William Vincent new edition of the full score and orchestral material of The Lily of Killarney from manuscripts found in The British Library. In 1989 he was also appointed Music Director of Our Lady!s Choral Society, a position WALLACE he still holds. Since 2001 he has been conducting the Birthday Celebration performance of Handel!s Messiah in Halle, and in 2011 he was invited to conduct the first of a series of concerts to include the complete symphonies of Haydn with the Orchestra of St Cecilia.
