Appointment of Subject Groups 1.2 3 Subject Groups (SGs) were appointed by Minister of National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan as part of the public consultation exercise to study proposals under the following areas: a. Subject Group 1: Parks and Waterbodies Plan and the Rustic Coast b. Subject Group 2: Urban Villages and Southern Ridges & Hillside Villages c. Subject Group 3: Old World Charm 1.3 The SG members, comprising professionals, representatives from interest groups and lay people were tasked to study the various proposals for the 2 plans, conduct dialogue sessions with stakeholders and consider public feedback, before making their recommendations to URA on the proposals. Introduction Built on freehold land, KYCL is located at 21 Lorong, 25 Geylang Singapore 388299, within the vicinity of Aljunied MRT Station. The centre is managed by a committee of 9 Venerable and founded on the basis of Zen Buddhism, which focuses on the discovering of ‘true self’ through meditation. KYCL falls under the Mahayana School of Buddhism, one of the three major schools of Buddhism. History and Founding Venerable Chi Boon is the founder and Abbot of KYCL. He met Zen Master Seung Sahn in Korea during a retreat and started practicing under his guidance. He was awarded the Inka in 1998, an official certification to allow him to function as a Zen Master. He established KYCL at Pulau Ubin in 1991 and relocated it three times.     NINE SECTION TRAINING I. SETTLING DOWN The only break at the end of basic training was the normal weekend, which was not much since the POP was on Saturday, 13th August and section training began on Monday, 15th August. There was no change to the configuration of the platoons and sections. Strictly speaking, each trainee was now a private soldier, but for some reason they were usually referred to as ‘trainees’, probably a force of habit. By now, however, the trainees had settled down to life at SAFTI and nearly everyone took the regimented routine in his stride. Friendships and loyalties had developed and housekeeping duties had sort of synchro-meshed. Collective punishment, especially extra-drill and the threat of confinement, had made it in every trainee’s interest to cover his barrack-mates and present a united front against the instructors. Physical fitness had reduced the stresses of life and improved reactions to the unexpected. A perceptible hardening had taken place in the last two months, and recovery from the previous day’s exertions was usually complete after a night’s deep sleep, even when it was brief because of late training. The sense of being constantly hassled was being replaced by a can-do spirit: the instructors had become to some extent predictable and pre-emptable. Besides, less ‘mistakes’ were being made. One of the most significant and welcome changes was that the trainees no longer had to move as platoons to and from the dining halls (exclusive to each company), but instead, went on their own or in random groups during the scheduled times.

Bird of the month easily went to a male Masked Finfoot that was present at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park between 9th and 11 th January and captivated hordes of birders and photographers. This was the third confirmed record for Singapore. Next up were a trio of raptors beginning with a Jerdon’s Baza that turned up at Singapore Quarry on the 9 th , potentially our tenth record, a single Himalayan Vulture that flew over MacRitchie Reservoir on 15 th , potentially our sixth record, as well as two Blyth’s Hawk-eagles at Kent Ridge Park on 30 th , potentially our fifth post-war record.
