Porsche in Le Mans
Press Information Meet the Heroes of Le Mans Mission 2014. Our Return. Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place. -

Au 81 Vechicl3e Body Engg Notes
UNIT 1- CAR BODY DETAILS Cars can come in a large variety of different body styles . Some are still in production, while others are of historical interest only. These styles are largely (though not completely) independent of a car's classification in terms of price, size and intended broad market; the same car model might be available in multiple body styles (or model ranges ). For some of the following terms, especially relating to four-wheel drive / SUV models and minivan / MPV models, the distinction between body style and classification is particularly narrow. Please note that while each body style has a historical and technical definition, in common usage such definitions are often blurred. Over time, the common usage of each term evolves. For example, people often call 4-passenger sport coupés a "sports car", while purists will insist that a sports car by definition is limited to two-place vehicles. Body work In automotive engineering , the bodywork of an automobile is the structure which protects: ⦁ The occupants ⦁ Any other payload ⦁ The mechanical components. In vehicles with a separate frame or chassis , the term bodywork is normally applied to only the non-structural panels, including doors and other movable panels, but it may also be used more generally to include the structural components which support the mechanical components. Construction There are three main types of automotive bodywork: ⦁ The first automobiles were designs adapted in large part from horse-drawn carriages, and had body-on-frame construction with a wooden frame and wooden or metal body panels. Wooden-framed motor vehicles remain in production to this day, with many of the cars made by the Morgan Motor Company still having wooden structures underlying their bodywork. -

Richard Wiley, a lifelong motoring journalist, has always loved Le Mans, Group C and especially the Porsches of that era. A sting in the tale, covers his early trips to Le Mans in the late ‘80s. www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hours, 12-13 June 1954: Leading the Porsche contingent on a media parade lap ahead of the 1954 Le Mans 24-Hour race is the #40 1498 cc Porsche 550 Spyder of Glockler/von Frankenburg followed by the similarly spec-ed #39 car of Johnny Claes/Pierre Stasse with the #41 car of Herrmann/Polensky just behind. Firstly, as the son of a car-mad dental surgeon, I used to attend many motor races in the 1950s and 60s in the then Rhodesia. -
1989 - Porsche 962C Brun Motorsport
1989 - Porsche 962C Brun Motorsport Make: Porsche Year: 1989 Type: Coupé Chassis Number: 962-006BM Drive: RHD Competition Ready: Yes Exterior Color: Jägermeister Key Features Description We have the pleasure to offer this gorgeous and iconic "Jägermeister" livery Porsche 962C for sale. The Porsche 956 replaced 935 as Porsche’s bread and butter sportscar for the privateer and after the success of the factory cars, Porsche unsurprisingly built and sold a lot of 956s. The only drawback the car had was that it couldn’t be raced in the IMSA GTP class as the foot pedals were beyond the front-wheel centreline and to overcome this, Porsche added 6 inches to the length of the chassis, hence the type number, 956 + 6 = 962. The 962 proved even more popular than the 956 now that the American market had opened up with Porsche building 95 examples. And if you wanted to build your own 962 using a chassis of your own design and build, Porsche were quite happy to help you as long as you bought all the mechanical parts from them, used the 962 windscreen and cabin shape, and called it a Porsche 962. Several teams built their own chassis and another 55 cars were privately built. Eight of those cars were built by Brun Motorsport using a honeycomb chassis of their own design which was fabricated and built by John Thompson of TC Prototypes in England. This particular car, 962-006BM was built fresh for 1989 and ran in a variety of liveries depending on what sponsorship arrangements were in place to satisfy a sponsors requirements for a particular race but for most of the season, the car wore the familiar orange livery of Jägermeister, who had been Brun’s primary sponsor for some time. -

Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1.
