17 Meet the Candidates for the 2012 MORPCA Board

John Brandt Candidate for President

John is the current MORPCA President and past VP. He serves on the P2O and Club Race committees, and has volunteered on the DE tech inspection crew for a number of years and worked as event Co-Chair for the 2009 advanced driver’s ed event.

John is a graduate of Ohio U. and works as a mortgage loan officer. He and his wife Erin have one son, William, who is 10 and a regular at Mid-Ohio. Erin especially enjoys going to social events like the holiday party, chili cookoff and P2O.

A a lifelong fan of the marque, John got his first Porsche, a ‘71-911E Targa, at age 26, and immediately joined Mid Ohio Region PCA. A 944 followed shortly thereafter and he started going to track events at that point. That led to the white ‘84 Carrera track car that you have seen. John is a PCA nationally certified driver’s education instructor. He is involved with several PCA regions’ DE programs, most notably in MORPCA.

“MORPCA has been great to me. We have such a special group of people and it is an honor to serve. If elected, I promise to continue to give my full attention to MORPCA and do my best to serve the needs and wishes of all the interests of our club.”

Mike Stoner Candidate for Vice President

I joined MORPCA shortly after purchasing my 2001 Speed Yellow Boxster. I have been active in MORPCA since 2006 when Debra and I became empty nesters. I was Treasurer of MORPCA from 2007 to 2010, VP in 2011and participate in track events, car shows, casual driving events and occasionally hosting social events at our home.

I was trained as an accountant, worked as a CPA or CFO for nearly three decades, and am now the managing partner for a private equity group. I serve as a board member for two local companies, serve on the board of a local non- profit, chair a committee for the Hilliard Board of Education and would be honored to serve as Vice President of MORPCA.

18 November 2011 Meet the Candidates for the 2012 MORPCA Board

Kevin Hennessy Candidate forTreasurer

My wife Patrice and I have been MORPCA and PCA members since 1992, when I acquired my first Porsche, a 1989 944 Turbo. During my early years of club membership I watched from the sidelines, reading DOS and Pano from cover to cover, but never attending any club events. I always told myself, someday I would get more involved in the club, which I did a few years ago when I acquired my 1996 911 Turbo. Since then, Patrice and I (more the latter I suspect) have taken advantage of the numerous activities MORPCA and surrounding regional clubs offer each year. I would encourage other non active members to do the same, as there is no time like the present to get more involved with this great club. You will be glad you did!

Since being elected Treasurer in 2011, my involvement in the club has increase considerably on many levels. I have met many active club members and I have been deeply involved in the back office operations of all the major events the club members put on for the benefit of the membership and the central Ohio community. This year was quite a learning experience for me, and I want to thank Mike Stoner for being a great mentor. I have done my best this year to continue the great tradition of service that past MORPCA Treasurers have given to the club. I hope my efforts this year have reaffirmed your choice in electing me Treasurer in 2011 and warrants your vote again for my re-election to Treasurer in 2012.

I ran for the position of Treasure on the MORPCA Board last year, to both contribute back to the club, but also to pay it forward, so that others can have the opportunity to experience what I and others have benefited from over the years. I would appreciate your vote and if reelected, I look forward to my continued work with the MORPCA Board and Chairpersons in support of the club’s membership and activities.

Betsy MacDonell Candidate for Secretary

I have been a member of MORPCA since 2000, soon after the purchase of my first 911. My first of 7 Driver’s Education events was the next year and I have been involved with the club ever since. The Secretary position looked like fun so I have been the scribe for about 6 years. During the board meetings the Club Race sounded like another fun way to help the club, so I volunteered for the Track Steward’s Assistant job for the last five race weekends. I live in Worthington with my husband Parker, and my 2 children, Lindsey and Alec.

21 Porsche 911 - The Reluctant Race Car

By the late 1950s it was obvious to Porsche that the Type 356, the company’s sole product line since its inception in 1948, needed to be updated, but replacing it, while necessary, was perilous. Who knew that the eventual replacement for the venerable 356, the 911, would surpass its predecessor in sales, longevity and glory? Or that it would be so fanatically cherished by its owners that Porsche hasn’t been able to replace it.

And, with Porsche Motorsport concentrating on its early prototype development for Le Mans and elsewhere, there wasn’t much initial effort by the factory for racing the 911. By the late 1960’s however, interest in competing with the new car grew and it went on to become the most successful race car in history, and the 911 story isn’t over yet.

It wasn’t too long after the 911 went into production, however, that buyers were using the new, rear-engined in hill climbs and The 1980s and early 90s were prime time for Porsche Motorsport’s 956 and autocrosses and Porsche itself started to produce lightweight and 962 prototype race cars, and the 911 took a bit of a back seat on the GT side enhanced performance vehicles for their motorsports customers. Election Time is Here!

The recent crisp weather signals that it is time again for a changing of seasons. It’s also time for the MORPCA board to renew its personnel.

Our region runs on the efforts and input of members like you, and in order to continue to serve you, we need new input and ideas, and that means that you as a member should get involved in the operations of MORPCA.

All Officers will be elected in November and installed at the Year-End Gala. Opportunities exist in all the Elected Positions and throughout numerous Committees. The four annually elected positions are President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you are interested in the elected positions and/or committees please contact Mike Stoner at 614-777-8751 or email to [email protected]. The MORPCA Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month @6:30pm for socializing and business at King Ave. 5 in Grandview Heights. Any and all MORPCA members are welcome. Come to a meeting and let your voice be heard. We encourage all members to get involved to whatever extent that they are able. So come out and serve Your Porsche Club!
