Briefing Book (Updated up to 30th June, 2012) Geological Survey of India Western Region EXECUTIVE SUMMARY EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1. Field Season Programme for the Field Season 2012 – 13 has been initiated and the Field officers have already taken reconnoitory traverses and in most cases finalized the steps for execution of the programme. The project execution is progressing as per the prorate. 2. Work in the Mundiyawas Khera copper prospect continues to give significant results. The possibility of the prospect to become one of the largest deposit in Alwar Basin and of whole of Rajasthan still holds good. 3. Based on the encouraging analytical results of 100 m X 100 m surface grid samples, subsurface probing has been initiated in Karoi area (an outcome of NGCM work) for search of copper. Surface mineralization nature has already indicated the strike extension of the prospect for more than a kilometer with bornite as the primary sulphide phase associated with chalcopyrite. The prospect is likely to yield encouraging values for copper at subsurface. 4. All the items programmed for the Field Season 2012 – 13 have been initiated. Fieldwork have ben initiated for all the items under Mission – I and Mission – II. Fieldwork have been initiated for some items of Mission – IV. Fieldwork for the remaining items of Mission – IV will be taken up very soon. 5. For the sponsored projects of Engineering Geology, interaction is going on with the Project Authorities and the programmes will be executed very soon after signing of MOU. 6. All the officers of 35th OCG Batch joining Western Region have initiated their project work of OCG Curriculam in the respective items where they will be associated during the Field Season 2012 – 13. 7. Important mineral investigations planned during the Field Season include phosphorite in Aravallis, gold in Banswara, copper in Pur-Banera and Nim ka Thana belts and in Alwar basin, lignite in Nagaur, REE in Pali and wollastonite in Banaskantha district. 8. During the field season 2010 - 12, an additional resource of 0.07 MT of gold has been estimated in Bhukia area, Banswara district, Rajasthan augmenting the resource to 105.81 MT (with 0.5 g/t gold at 1 meter stopping width) with associated copper, cobalt and nickel. At 0.5 g/t gold at 2 meter stopping width the total resources are 91.74 MT. At 0.20% cut off and 2 m stoping width a total of 27.57 MT of Copper resources with 0.39% average grade have been estimated. Additional resource of copper has been estimated in the Khera Block, Mundiyawas Khera area, Alwar district. Based on the analytical results of the first borehole and part of the second borehole about 15 million tonnes of copper with 0.30% Cu has been estimated. Significant Pb-Zn mineralization has been intersected in the borehole in the Salampura block, Pur-Banera belt, Bhilwara district, and Cu mineralization in the Mahawa block, Sikar district, Rajasthan. The REE mineralization in Dhani Granite, Pali district, Rajasthan, is hosted in the granite as well as in the pseudo-tachylite veins along the brittle – ductile shear zone. Additional resource of Limestone (441.70 million tonnes of SMS grade and 514.84 million tones of Cement grade) has been estimated during the current field season. All the above programmes are being continued in the current field season and is likely to augment the resource by substantial quantity. 9. All post-2004 unpublished reports (till date 438 reports) are uploaded. 10. About pre-2004 reports, keying in is in progress through outsourcing and 2412 reports have been keyed in. The number of reports uploaded till date is after scrutiny is 1573 11. Metadata of 4563 reports have been uploaded since inception. 12. In the absence of Hyperion data (to be provided by SAC, Ahmedabad), ASTRA data and ETM data have been used for the Hyperspectral Mapping in Gujarat. Hyperion data available i in the south of Zawar area have been utilized. Proposals have been sent to CHQ for the purchase of Spectroradiometer and related software, one each for Rajasthan and Gujarat units. In the absence of officer and the required material (hyperian data and instrument), Hyperspectral Mapping Programme in Western Region has been kept in abyence during the current field season. 13. Significant progress has been made in the analysis of number of NGCM samples (ICP-MS) by introducing double shifts and working on Sundays and Saturdays. Analysis of NGCM samples up to FS 2009-10 of Package-A (XRF-22 elements) and Package-H (ICPMS-26 elements) has been completed. Out of the samples received for the Field Season 2010 – 12, analyses of 1285 samples have been completed for Package A (XRF); 14 for Package B; 348 for Package C; 102 for Package D; 505 for Package F; 544 for Package G and 1579 samples for Package – H (ICPMS). All the 8129 analysis for Package I (Pd-Pt) upto F.S. 2009-10, have been completed through outsourcing. 14. NMI (conversion of reports to UNFC) Conversion of all the 135 mineral investigation reports into UNFC format have been completed on 30.04.2011 and uploaded in the portal.
