Silversea Announces Refurbishment Plans for Silver Whisper and Silver Wind SILVERSEA ANNOUNCES REFURBISHMENT PLANS FOR SILVER WHISPER AND SILVER WIND (Miami, FL – September 21, 2017) Ultra-luxury travel innovator Silversea has announced plans for Silver Wind and Silver Whisper to undergo a concrete refurbishment program in some areas of the two ships. The transformation of these two ships will be accomplished in December. The project is part of the elegant fleet-wide refurbishment program launched at the end of 2016 that will continue with new announcements to come soon. Silver Whisper will incorporate technical improvements that will increase the already excellent level of guest satisfaction. The refurbishment will also incorporate a significant redesign of public areas. Many of the public areas will take inspiration from Silver Muse's décor, which will be reflected in carpet replacements and upgrades for La Terrazza, as well as the Observation and Panorama lounges. Silver Wind will also be upgraded in a similar format, taking inspiration from Silver Muse as well. Public areas will also receive stylish enhancements, including the reupholstering of chairs and new carpets for the casino and a new floor upgrade in the spa and beauty salon based on the inspiring concepts of Silversea’s flagship, Silver Muse. "Silver Muse has been a sophisticated inspirational milestone for our brand. We are confident that the comprehensive makeover we have planned for Silver Wind and Silver Whisper will enhance the onboard experience and be equally appreciated by our guests," said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea's CEO. • Transits of the Northwest Passage to End of the 2020 Navigation Season Atlantic Ocean ↔ Arctic Ocean ↔ Pacific Ocean
TRANSITS OF THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE TO END OF THE 2020 NAVIGATION SEASON ATLANTIC OCEAN ↔ ARCTIC OCEAN ↔ PACIFIC OCEAN R. K. Headland and colleagues 7 April 2021 Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, United Kingdom, CB2 1ER. <[email protected]> The earliest traverse of the Northwest Passage was completed in 1853 starting in the Pacific Ocean to reach the Atlantic Oceam, but used sledges over the sea ice of the central part of Parry Channel. Subsequently the following 319 complete maritime transits of the Northwest Passage have been made to the end of the 2020 navigation season, before winter began and the passage froze. These transits proceed to or from the Atlantic Ocean (Labrador Sea) in or out of the eastern approaches to the Canadian Arctic archipelago (Lancaster Sound or Foxe Basin) then the western approaches (McClure Strait or Amundsen Gulf), across the Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea of the Arctic Ocean, through the Bering Strait, from or to the Bering Sea of the Pacific Ocean. The Arctic Circle is crossed near the beginning and the end of all transits except those to or from the central or northern coast of west Greenland. The routes and directions are indicated. Details of submarine transits are not included because only two have been reported (1960 USS Sea Dragon, Capt. George Peabody Steele, westbound on route 1 and 1962 USS Skate, Capt. Joseph Lawrence Skoog, eastbound on route 1). Seven routes have been used for transits of the Northwest Passage with some minor variations (for example through Pond Inlet and Navy Board Inlet) and two composite courses in summers when ice was minimal (marked ‘cp’).

BACKGROUNDER Silversea is a luxury cruise company reflec3ng genera3ons of mari3me and travel experience. In the early 1990s, the Lefebvre family of Rome, former owners of Sitmar Cruises, conceived and organised a unique cruise company pledging to build and operate the highest quality ships in the ultra-luxury segment. The name "Silversea" was chosen because it connotes quality and luxury as well as capturing the romance and special sensa3ons of the sea. Silversea launched its first ship, Silver Cloud, in 1994, followed by Silver Wind in 1995, Silver Shadow in 2000, and Silver Whisper in 2001. The fleet was purpose-built for the ultra-luxury market, establishing a new class of smaller, in3mate vessels that could slip into more exo3c ports off the beaten path. These elite vessels were specifically designed for fewer guests, with more space and the highest levels of personalised service, delivered by mainly Italian and other European officers overseeing an interna3onal staff. In December 2009 Silversea took delivery of its next genera3on of ultra-luxury vessel, Silver Spirit. At 36,000 grosse tonnes (gr)t, and accommoda3ng just 540 guests, this in3mate ship has spacious suites— with 95% featuring a private veranda—and one of the highest space-to-guest ra3os at sea today. The onboard decor lends a sophis3cated 1930s Art Deco ambience to the public spaces, highlights of which include an indoor/outdoor spa measuring over 8,300 square feet (770 square metres), a resort-style pool, four whirlpools, and a choice of six dining venues including Seishin, showcasing Asian-fusion cuisine, and the innova3ve Stars Supper Club, offering trendseng menus and all-night entertainment.

Few cruise ships have transited the passage, which follows the extreme coastlines of Asia and Europe and has long enjoyed a fabled reputation among seafarers. The intimate, all-suite Silver Explorer will become the most luxurious cruise ship to sail the route, as it passes 5,019 nautical miles of dramatic seascapes and untamed wilderness on a 25-day voyage. On August 10, 2019, the ice-class expedition ship will sail from Nome, Alaska, to Tromsø, Norway, on a once-in-a-lifetime explorative journey through this challenging region. "In this special anniversary year, which marks Silversea's decade of ultra-luxury expedition cruising, we're particularly thrilled to announce our inaugural crossing of the Northeast Passage," says Conrad Combrink, Silversea's Senior Vice President of Strategic Development for Expeditions and Experiences. "Continuing our legacy of exploration, this epic Arctic passage will take guests across the top of Asia and Europe to discover extraordinary landscapes, unique cultures and rare animal species, while enjoying the comfort of Silversea's ultra-luxury Silver Explorer." The cruise ships involved with the agreement are 5 out of the 8 luxury cruise vessels that are part of Silversea’s fleet: Silver Cloud, Silver Shadow, Silver Spirit, Silver Wind and Silver Whisper. “The agreement will allow us to offer our primary Client a 360° degree service including: services arrangements, berth reservations for planned changes or itineraries, quotations and proformas requests, DAs formats, direct negotiations on site with Vendors, tenders on specific services, etc…” specifies Giovanni Paolo Risso Ceo of the Italian shipping services and tour operator provider. In ports where it has its own branch offices, C&R will take direct care of the activity; while in other ports called upon by Silversea’s vessels, C&R will act as a supervisor of the local subagent designated by Silversea. This is an innovative approach between the relation within a cruise line and a port agent. “The agreement does not foresees the birth of a joint venture or any specific newco, but however it can be considered the first such type in the cruise sector”, claims C&R. “We have established a common teamwork with staff from the two companies who will work in full synergy on a continuous basis”.
