Dry Docks Work to Start on “Silver Muse”
DRY DOCKS WORK TO START ON “SILVER MUSE” Trieste, 10 December 2015 – The keel laying ceremony of “Silver Muse”, the new ultra-luxury cruise ship which Fincantieri is building for Silversea Cruises, took place today at the shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genova). The ceremony was attended for the shipowner, among others, by Enzo Visone, CEO of Silversea, while Fincantieri was represented by Raffaele Davassi, director of the shipyard. At 40,700 gross tonnes, able to accommodate 596 passengers on board, “Silver Muse” will represent an evolution of “Silver Spirit”, delivered in 2009 by Fincantieri in Ancona, redefining ultra- luxury ocean travel, always maintaining the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodations that are the hallmarks of the Silversea experience. The delivery of the ship is scheduled in spring 2017. The newbuild will expand Silversea's fleet to 9 ships, and will once again significantly raise the bar in the ultra-luxury cruise market with a wealth of enhancements to the onboard experience, while satisfying the uncompromising requirements for comfort, service, and quality of the world's most discerning travellers. Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990 (47 since 2002) and other 14 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group's yards. * * * Fincantieri is one of the world's largest shipbuilding groups and number one by diversification and presence in all high value-added market sectors, having built more than 7,000 vessels in over 230 years of its maritime history. It is world leader in cruise ship construction and a reference player in other sectors, from naval vessels to cruise ferries, from mega-yachts to special high value-added vessels, from ship repairs and conversions to offshore vessels. -
Silversea's Successful Venetian Society Voyage 2018 Sets High
SILVERSEA’S SUCCESSFUL VENETIAN SOCIETY VOYAGE 2018 SETS HIGH STANDARDS FOR NEXT YEAR’S EDITION (Miami, FL – November 06, 2018) Silversea’s greatly anticipated Venetian Society voyage concluded emphatically in Lisbon on October 18, following a varied itinerary which incorporated a number of unique, bespoke events. Having departed from Monte Carlo on October 9, 2018, Silversea’s Silver Whisper visited a number of destinations in France and Spain. Hosted by Fernando Barroso De Oliveira, Silversea’s Executive Chairman’s ambassador to the Venetian Society, the annual voyage unlocked authentic events, activities, receptions and other privileges exclusively for the cruise line’s valued Venetian Society. A standout highlight of the voyage, Venetian Society guests witnessed a human tower, constructed on the grounds of the magnificent Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau in Barcelona—an architectural marvel that is protected by UNESCO World Heritage status. The Catalan tradition of building human towers, also known as Castells, has never been staged at this remarkable venue. The captivating presentation, planned and orchestrated exclusively for the guests of the ultra-luxury cruise line, featured a human structure that comprised of approximately 120 performers standing atop one another. It took place during the ship's call in the Catalan capital on October 11. The unique event also included a Catalan-inspired banquet at the spectacular Sala Hipóstila pavilion and private tours of the venue. The human tower was part of an array of enhancements designed to enrich the voyage exclusively for Venetian Society guests. Among other exciting highlights were two flamenco music and dance presentations, ‘Flamenco Fuego’ and ‘Flamenco Notes,’ performed in the ship's elegant Show Lounge. -
Transits of the Northwest Passage to End of the 2020 Navigation Season Atlantic Ocean ↔ Arctic Ocean ↔ Pacific Ocean
TRANSITS OF THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE TO END OF THE 2020 NAVIGATION SEASON ATLANTIC OCEAN ↔ ARCTIC OCEAN ↔ PACIFIC OCEAN R. K. Headland and colleagues 7 April 2021 Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, United Kingdom, CB2 1ER. <[email protected]> The earliest traverse of the Northwest Passage was completed in 1853 starting in the Pacific Ocean to reach the Atlantic Oceam, but used sledges over the sea ice of the central part of Parry Channel. Subsequently the following 319 complete maritime transits of the Northwest Passage have been made to the end of the 2020 navigation season, before winter began and the passage froze. These transits proceed to or from the Atlantic Ocean (Labrador Sea) in or out of the eastern approaches to the Canadian Arctic archipelago (Lancaster Sound or Foxe Basin) then the western approaches (McClure Strait or Amundsen Gulf), across the Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea of the Arctic Ocean, through the Bering Strait, from or to the Bering Sea of the Pacific Ocean. The Arctic Circle is crossed near the beginning and the end of all transits except those to or from the central or northern coast of west Greenland. The routes and directions are indicated. Details of submarine transits are not included because only two have been reported (1960 USS Sea Dragon, Capt. George Peabody Steele, westbound on route 1 and 1962 USS Skate, Capt. Joseph Lawrence Skoog, eastbound on route 1). Seven routes have been used for transits of the Northwest Passage with some minor variations (for example through Pond Inlet and Navy Board Inlet) and two composite courses in summers when ice was minimal (marked ‘cp’). -

Cruising: the Great Restart
May 2021 Edition Cruising: the Great Restart “Cruises will be the safest place on earth” - Frank Del Rio, President & CEO Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings PanacheCruises.com Elite Ocean, River, Expedition and Yacht-Style Cruising Dear Fellow Cruise Enthusiast, Cruising is restarting and Panache Cruises presents to you our aptly titled guide, Cruising: The Great Restart. In February this year we asked our customers when they thought international cruising would return, and 64% of them stated between July and September 2021. Well, it looks like they will be spot on with their prediction, as we envisage a number of cruise lines to be sailing internationally in July with many more to follow by September. With the UK vaccine rollout at an advanced stage along with Europe, the USA, and other parts of the world making significant progress too, the cruise world is on the cusp of restarting, slowly but surely. It’s truly an exciting time for everyone associated with the cruise industry. The UK’s traffic light system is also up and running, which over time will see more and more destinations opening up to tourism. Of course, don’t be discouraged by some of your favourite cruising destinations being on the ‘amber’ list for now - all of that is likely to change in a matter of weeks as they are given the ‘green light’, giving travellers the confidence to resume exploring the world. Cruise lines have worked extremely hard to ensure that “cruises will be the safest place on earth” according to Norwegian Cruise Line’s Frank Del Rio. -
Backgrounder
BACKGROUNDER Silversea is a luxury cruise company reflec3ng genera3ons of mari3me and travel experience. In the early 1990s, the Lefebvre family of Rome, former owners of Sitmar Cruises, conceived and organised a unique cruise company pledging to build and operate the highest quality ships in the ultra-luxury segment. The name "Silversea" was chosen because it connotes quality and luxury as well as capturing the romance and special sensa3ons of the sea. Silversea launched its first ship, Silver Cloud, in 1994, followed by Silver Wind in 1995, Silver Shadow in 2000, and Silver Whisper in 2001. The fleet was purpose-built for the ultra-luxury market, establishing a new class of smaller, in3mate vessels that could slip into more exo3c ports off the beaten path. These elite vessels were specifically designed for fewer guests, with more space and the highest levels of personalised service, delivered by mainly Italian and other European officers overseeing an interna3onal staff. In December 2009 Silversea took delivery of its next genera3on of ultra-luxury vessel, Silver Spirit. At 36,000 grosse tonnes (gr)t, and accommoda3ng just 540 guests, this in3mate ship has spacious suites— with 95% featuring a private veranda—and one of the highest space-to-guest ra3os at sea today. The onboard decor lends a sophis3cated 1930s Art Deco ambience to the public spaces, highlights of which include an indoor/outdoor spa measuring over 8,300 square feet (770 square metres), a resort-style pool, four whirlpools, and a choice of six dining venues including Seishin, showcasing Asian-fusion cuisine, and the innova3ve Stars Supper Club, offering trendseng menus and all-night entertainment. -

Royal Caribbean Group Reports Second Quarter 2021 Results and Latest Updates on Resumption of Service
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ROYAL CARIBBEAN GROUP REPORTS SECOND QUARTER 2021 RESULTS AND LATEST UPDATES ON RESUMPTION OF SERVICE MIAMI – August 4, 2021 – Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) today reported financial results for the second quarter of 2021 and provided business updates on the resumption of service. The Group has made tremendous strides in resuming service both in the United States and globally and is encouraged by the significant improvement in demand and pricing environments for cruises. Resumption of Sailing and Business Highlights The resumption of service is being implemented at a very fast pace. • Already, the Group is operating 29 ships across its five brands, representing 42% of capacity. • By the end of this month, the Group expects to be operating 36 ships, representing over 60% of its capacity. • The Company anticipates having 80% of its capacity in service by end of year 2021. “We’re thrilled to be back on the water at accelerated speed in the US and elsewhere. After 16 months of being at a virtual standstill and another painful financial result this quarter, the flywheel is clearly picking up momentum,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO. 1 “Since the pandemic began, our objective has been to make our ships safer than Main Street, and today, we are proving that ambitious goal is achievable. We are also encouraged by the booking outlook especially for 2022 and beyond.” • Booked load factor for 2022 is within historical ranges. Prices for 2022 are up versus a record-setting 2019, even including the dilutive impact of future cruise credits (FCCs).
