DRY DOCKS WORK TO START ON “SILVER MUSE” Trieste, 10 December 2015 – The keel laying ceremony of “Silver Muse”, the new ultra-luxury cruise ship which Fincantieri is building for Silversea Cruises, took place today at the shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genova). The ceremony was attended for the shipowner, among others, by Enzo Visone, CEO of Silversea, while Fincantieri was represented by Raffaele Davassi, director of the shipyard. At 40,700 gross tonnes, able to accommodate 596 passengers on board, “Silver Muse” will represent an evolution of “Silver Spirit”, delivered in 2009 by Fincantieri in Ancona, redefining ultra- luxury ocean travel, always maintaining the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodations that are the hallmarks of the Silversea experience. The delivery of the ship is scheduled in spring 2017. The newbuild will expand Silversea's fleet to 9 ships, and will once again significantly raise the bar in the ultra-luxury cruise market with a wealth of enhancements to the onboard experience, while satisfying the uncompromising requirements for comfort, service, and quality of the world's most discerning travellers. Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990 (47 since 2002) and other 14 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group's yards. * * * Fincantieri is one of the world's largest shipbuilding groups and number one by diversification and presence in all high value-added market sectors, having built more than 7,000 vessels in over 230 years of its maritime history. It is world leader in cruise ship construction and a reference player in other sectors, from naval vessels to cruise ferries, from mega-yachts to special high value-added vessels, from ship repairs and conversions to offshore vessels.

  • This Is a Daily Compilation of Media Articles Concerning the Covid-19 Impact to the Global Cruise Industry
1 THIS IS A DAILY COMPILATION OF MEDIA ARTICLES CONCERNING THE COVID-19 IMPACT TO THE GLOBAL CRUISE INDUSTRY. Please note this isn’t a complete listing of media articles but a snapshot only. 29 March, 2020: PASSENGERS TRANSFERRED FROM VIRUS-STRICKEN CRUISE SHIP OFF PANAMA Passengers on a virus-stricken cruise liner stranded off Central America were transferred to another ship Saturday, after the US-bound vessel was given permission to pass through the Panama Canal. The Zaandam had been stuck in the Pacific Ocean since March 14 after dozens of the 1,800 people on board reported flu-like symptoms and several South American ports refused to let it dock. The ship's Dutch owner Holland America said Friday four passengers had died and two more had tested positive for COVID- 19. Panama on Saturday reversed its decision to block the Zaandam from its canal, and said it would be allowed to pass "to provide humanitarian help." Another ship, the Rotterdam, has since arrived off the coast of Panama from San Diego carrying food, medical staff, testing kits, medicine and food for the beleaguered vessel. Passengers showing no signs of the virus were ferried from the Zaandam to the Rotterdam on Saturday, a French tourist told AFP by telephone. "It's like emptying a bathtub with a teaspoon," she said. "The boats can hold about 100 people, and they are putting about half in at a time. That's why it's going slowly." The Zaandam cruise liner left Buenos Aires on March 7 and was supposed to arrive two weeks later at San Antonio, near Santiago in Chile.

  • Retrofitting a Goliath of The
COVER STORY Pacific Dawn retrofit team from Inter-Marine. Retrofitting a goliath of the sea An Australian heavy marine specialist recently claimed a successful world-first refrigerant retrofit onboard Australia’s first super cruise liner. In doing so, the company ensured the ship’s numerous HVAC&R systems are future-proofed as it continues to sail the South Pacific, writes Sean McGowan. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of taking a holiday on a super cruise liner can attest to both the enormity and grandeur of these vessels. Australia’s own MV Pacific Dawn is no exception. Designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano and built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, the Pacific Dawn was originally named Regal Princess by former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher before its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale in the US, to the Caribbean in 1991. The ship has since collected more stamps in its passport than even the most intrepid traveler. It alternated between cruises to the Caribbean during northern hemisphere winters to Alaska during their summer, before heading to Australia earlier this decade. In 2003, it returned to the Mediterranean before again sailing out of New York for a period of time, until in 2007 it was transferred permanently to the P&O Cruises Australia fleet, and subsequently renamed Pacific Dawn by Olympic gold medalist Cathy Freeman. Accommodating approximately 2,680 passengers and crew, the 70,000 tonne cruise liner has since enjoyed two years in service sailing to various destinations across the Pacific out of Brisbane. Pacific Dawn in Sydney Harbour Measuring some 245m in length, it is almost one and half times the length of Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

  • Varata a Monfalcone La “Discovery Princess”
