Kombinasi metanol 10% dengan berbagai konsentrasi larutan madu (0%, 0,1%, 0,3%, 0,5%, 0,7% dan 0,9%) diuji dalam penelitian ini. Larutan Ringer digunakan sebagai ekstender. Sperma yang telah diencerkan, kemudian diekuiliberasi selama 25 menit pada suhu 4 ℃, kemudian disimpan beku pada suhu -80 ℃ selama 48 jam. Sperma kemudian dicairkan pada suhu 40 ℃ selama 13 detik. Viabilitas, motilitas dan persentase fertilisasi dievaluasi. Hasil uji analisis sidik ragam menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi metanol 10% dengan beberapa konsentrasi larutan madu berpengaruh secara signifikan (P<0,05) terhadap viabilitas spermatozoa dan persentase fertilisasi, tapi tidak berpengaruh terhadap motilitas spermatozoa (P>0,05). Kombinasi larutan madu 0,1% dan metanol 10% menunjukkan persentase tertinggi baik motilitas (89,4 ± 5,45%), viabilitas (85,75 ± 4,79%), maupun persentase fertilisasi (98,55 ± 1,69%). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah bahwa larutan madu 0,1% yang dikombinasikan dengan metanol 10% dalam larutan Ringer merupakan krioprotektan terbaik bagi spermatozoa C. macracanthus yang disimpan pada suhu -80 ℃ selama 48 jam. Abstract The purpose of study was to obtain the best combination of natural cryoprotectant (honey solution) and synthetic cryoprotectant (methanol) on the quality of spermatozoa Chromobotia macracanthus Bleeker 1852, after freezing at - 80 ℃ for 48 hours. The combination of 10% methanol with various concentrations of honey solution (0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% and 0.9%) was tested in this study. Ringer's solution was used as an extender. The diluted sperm was then equilibrated for 25 minutes at 4 ℃, then frozen at -80 ℃ for 48 hours. The s perm was then thawed at 40 ℃ for 13 seconds. Viability, motility and percentage of fertilization were evaluated. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the combination of 10% methanol with several concentrations of honey solution had a significant effect (P <0.05) on the viability of spermatozoa and the percentage of fertilization, but had no effect on sperm motility (P> 0.05). The combination of 0.1% honey solution and 10% methanol showed the highest percentage of both motility (89.4 ± 5.45%), viability (85.75 ± 4.79%), and the percentage of fertilization (98.55 ± 1.69%). %). This paper extracts findings from the latest literature and explores overarching issues pertaining to freshwater ichthyology in Malaysia. Various schools of thought on biogeography and some basic data are first discussed to characterise Malaysia’s fish species distribution and diversity. Subsequently, fish research and conservation concerns are explicitly raised and discussed to reveal concerns affecting the research movement and freshwater habitat quality. The Mekong River’s fisheries and biodiversity are threatened by major hydropower development and over-exploitation. Knowledge of river food web ecology is essential for management of the impacts created by anthropogenic activities on plant and animal populations and ecosystems. In the present study, I surveyed four tropical rivers in Cambodia within the Mekong River Basin. I examined the basal production sources supporting fish biomass in the four rivers during the dry and wet seasons and explored the relationship between trophic position and body size of fish at various taxonomic levels, among local species assemblages, and across trophic guilds. I used stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen to estimate fish trophic levels and the principal primary production sources supporting fishes. My study provides evidence that food web dynamics in tropical rivers undergo significant seasonal shifts and emphasizes that river food webs are altered by dams and flow regulation. Seston and benthic algae were the most important production sources supporting fish biomass during the dry season, and riparian macrophytes appeared to be the most important production source supporting fishes during the wet season.

NOR ABSTRACT Scales are calcium carbonate and collagen-contained structures embedded within the fish epidermis and useful for species identification. This study aimed to describe morphological characteristics of scales and use the differences to prepare keys to species. Fishes were sampled from selected rivers of Tembat Forest Reserve, Hulu Terengganu. Specimens caught were from 3 families (Cyprinidae, Channidae, Nandidae) and 17 species. Each species was represented by ten individuals (size ranges 2.5 - 50 cm TL). The scales were removed, soaked in H2O2 (0.5%), NH3 (0.3%), DH2O and mounted between a pair of glass slides for digital photographing. The morphological descriptions were based on types of scales, distinctiveness of radii arrangement at the anterior field, radii cover, radii distribution, overall shape, focus position and focus pattern. Keys to species were constructed based on these scale morphological characters described. Measurements of scale total length (L), total width (W), rostral field length (L1) and caudal field length (L2) of the scales were taken using Image J software. The inter-specific variation among scales was indicated by L1/L, L2/L, L1/L2 and W/L indices through multiple comparison tests (ANOVA). Raya Bogor Km 46, Cibinong 16911; email13: [email protected] ABSTRACT Marosatherina ladigesi is one of the famous rainbow fish species from Sulawesi. This endemic fish species from Sulawesi is one of the Indonesian export commodity since more than 30 years ago. All of the export specimens come from the wild habitat. The anxiousness of the extinction of this species stated in the redlist of IUCN since 1994. Two field work of Maros Karst Project conducted in 2006, 2007 and an international expedition in 2007 showed the decreasing population of this species. The results of the three field trips showed the difficulties to get M. ladigesi in the streams. Taxonomical status and classification, coloration, sex dimorphism and distribution discussed.
