The Parish Church of SAINT EDWARD THE CONFESSOR, BURGESS HILL Building a Community of God’s People in the Power of the Holy Spirit We are an Anglican Church (Church of England) that seeks to be… • Catholic in the way we express our faith. • Charismatic in seeking to be gifted by the Holy Spirit • Contemporary in our style of worship • Committed to exploring God’s word in the scriptures • Concerned to share the healing love of Jesus with all. Sunday 24th June 2018 THE BIRTH OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST 10.00 a.m. PARISH MASS with Kidz Zone with the Ministry of Prayer for Healing & Wholeness Luke begins his Gospel by describing an aged, devout, childless couple, the priest Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth. As Zechariah is serving in the Temple, he sees the angel Gabriel, who tells him that he and his wife will have a son who will be a great prophet, and will go before the Lord "like Elijah." (The Jewish tradition had been that Elijah would herald the coming of the Messiah = Christ = Anointed = Chosen of God.) Zechariah went home, and his wife conceived. About six months later, Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary, a kinswoman of Elizabeth, and told her that she was about to bear a son who would be called Son of the Most High, a king whose kingdom would never end. Thus, Elizabeth gave birth to John, and Mary gave birth six months later to Jesus. Welcome to everyone gathered here at St. Edward’s this morning Today, we welcome James Taylor, a student at St. John’s College, Durham, where he is training for the priesthood. He will be with us on placement at St. Edward’s from today – until Sunday 22nd July. It would be good if James got a lot of invites to lunch or dinner so that he could spend time with people and get to know them better. Please make him feel very welcome among us. Flowers for the 50th Anniversary: At a recent meeting of the PCC it was suggested that members of St. Edward’s be invited to ‘sponsor’ a flower arrangement stand. We hope to have four. We would suggest a donation of £25 for each stand. There will be a list on the table at the back of the church for anyone who would like to sponsor a flower arrangement – and to note who or what the arrangement is commemorating. ‘An Hour of Prayer’ - Prayer for Outreach and Mission - this Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. Please support this monthly Prayer Meeting for outreach and mission, so that we may discern the way forward in our Mission and Ministry. ‘Ted’s Magical Mystery Tour & Treasure Hunt’ will take place on Sunday 29th July – book the date now!
