The Example of Swedish Independent Music Fandom by Nancy K
First Monday Online groups are taking new forms as participants spread themselves amongst multiple Internet and offline platforms. The multinational online community of Swedish independent music fans exemplifies this trend. This participant–observation analysis of this fandom shows how sites are interlinked at multiple levels, and identifies several implications for theorists, researchers, developers, industry and independent professionals, and participants. Contents Introduction Fandom Swedish popular music The Swedish indie music fan community Discussion Conclusion Introduction The rise of social network sites is often taken to exemplify a shift from the interest–based online communities of the Web’s “first” incarnation to a new “Web 2.0” in which individuals are the basic unit, rather than communities. In a recent First Monday article, for instance, boyd (2006) states, “egocentric networks replace groups.” I argue that online groups have not been “replaced.” Even as their members build personal profiles and egocentric networks on MySpace, Facebook, BlackPlanet, Orkut, Bebo, and countless other emerging social network sites, online groups continue to thrive on Web boards, in multiplayer online games, and even on the all–but–forgotten Usenet. However, online communities are also taking a new form somewhere between the site-based online group and the egocentric network, distributing themselves throughout a variety of sites in a quasi–coherent networked fashion. This new form of distributed community poses particular problems for its members, developers, and analysts. This paper, based on over two years of participant–observation, describes this new shape of online community through a close look at the multinational online community of fans of independent rock music from Sweden. -

FULL BAND SONGLIST 2021/2022 1. Get Em Going Adore You- Harry
FULL BAND SONGLIST 2021/2022 On the average, the full band usually performs 3 forty (40) minute dance sets in any 4 hour Reception. During the breaks and the final half hour is almost always DJ music. You can always expect continuous music, with no breaks. These are all songs we perform, but there is way more here than we would usually play. You can tell us what you like and prefer and we can tailor our sets to your preferences to some degree. For example, some people don’t love country music, so we can leave the country tunes out and do mostly the rock material. Also, we perform these sets as medleys that are designed to keep people dancing. We usually always start the sets with a slow song to get everyone up, but then it’s all upbeat and the songs blend together with very few stops or slow downs. 1. No Bounds 11——13.10.19 Event Programme Music, Art, Film screen- ings, Talks Workshops Introduction Joe Muggs Optimism isn’t really in fashion, and understandably so. We’re overwhelmed by populists, scammers, liars, Fascists, fools of the worst sort, and earnest attempts to counter this takeover are themselves all too often taken over by further Fascists, fools and saviours with feet of clay. The world is burning and melting around us, and we seem to be volunteering to put in hours of labour for free and live under constant surveillance – indeed we even seem to be willing to pay for the privilege. Debt is normality, the lie of austerity is normality, slaughter and torture being beamed into our personal timelines is normality, withering irony and pompous righteousness as cloaks for the worst and most hateful views are normality. Meanwhile in the cultural sphere, recorded music is so devalued that any of the big four tech giants could buy the entire global music industry with the loose change down the back of their sofas, and the only reason they don’t is that it’s not worth the hassle. But – and it’s a big but [“big butt” – Beavis & Butthead cackle] – somehow there’s a lot going on that is pumped full of hope. Not hope in the save-the-world sense, mind. OK there’s some of that around, but even Greta Thunberg’s rhetoric is shot through with a huge amount of bleakness. But small scale, human level stuff where little things that people do in themselves make looking a week, a month, a year forward seem not just bearable but – in the moment at least – exciting. -

WDAM Radio's History of Elvis Presley
Listeners Guide To WDAM Radio’s History of Elvis Presley This is the most comprehensive collection ever assembled of Elvis Presley’s “charted” hit singles, including the original versions of songs he covered, as well as other artists’ hit covers of songs first recorded by Elvis plus songs parodying, saluting, or just mentioning Elvis! More than a decade in the making and an ongoing work-in-progress for the coming decades, this collection includes many WDAM Radio exclusives – songs you likely will not find anywhere else on this planet. Some of these, such as the original version of Muss I Denn (later recorded by Elvis as Wooden Heart) and Liebestraum No. 3 later recorded by Elvis as Today, Tomorrow And Forever) were provided by academicians, scholars, and collectors from cylinders or 78s known to be the only copies in the world. Once they heard about this WDAM Radio project, they graciously donated dubs for this archive – with the caveat that they would never be duplicated for commercial use and restricted only to musicologists and scholarly purposes. This collection is divided into four parts: (1) All of Elvis Presley’s charted U S singles hits in chronological order – (2) All of Elvis Presley’s charted U S and U K singles, the original versions of these songs by other artists, and hit versions by other artists of songs that Elvis Presley recorded first or had a cover hit – in chronological order, along with relevant parody/answer tunes – (3) Songs parodying, saluting, or just mentioning Elvis Presley – mostly, but not all in chronological order – and (4) X-rated or “adult-themed” songs parodying, saluting, or just mentioning Elvis Presley. -

Rocketsmith Are the Feel-Good Rock Band You’Ve Been Waiting For
Rocketsmith are the feel-good rock band you’ve been waiting for. Collectively they are consummate performers both live and in the studio. But strip away the rock n roll and you’ll find Ryedale lads Andy, Tim, Anth and Matt. They use their down-to-earth nature to endear them so much to their existing fanbase which exploded in 2019 with the release of the brilliantly catchy and instantly uplifting single ‘Give Love’ and the ‘Balancing Act’ EP. Rocketsmith were hatched in Pickering, just on the edge of the wilds of the North Yorkshire Moors. Like every musician worth their salt, they’ve all played in various bands over the years but always with the view that being a covers band was not for them. Forged together by a desire to write and perform their own material, that Rocketsmith exists at all is testament to their desire to make music whilst each has a job out there in the ‘real world’. A Balancing Act by any standards. Meet The Band Andy Warriner (Vocals, Guitar) Music makes my soul dance and I’m most alive when I’m singing. My first memory of trying to write songs was when I was around 7 or 8 years old, I used to play my parent’s old rock ’n’ roll songs like Buddy Holly. I’d dance and sing along like some kinda freak. Sometimes I used to sit down and listen to the songs and then try to make my up own version up and then sing my version over the top.
