Prevailing Price Prevailing Price (Php/kg) Prevailing Price (Php/kg) Prevailing Price (Php/kg) Prevailing Price (Php/kg) High Low Scientific Name English Name Local Name (Php/kg) The following observations were gathered from market vendors and administrators for the month of July:

1. Sufficient volumes of fresh marine commodities, particularly Local-fresh Galunggong (mixed sizes) were noted in the monitored retail markets for the 1st and 2nd week of the month. However, limited supplies were observed for the 3rd and 4th week as fishing and trading operations were hampered by the rainy weather condition brought by Typhoon "Fabian" and Southwest monsoon or "Habagat ". 2. Relative to the limited volume of supply for local-fresh variant, Imported-frozen Galunggong were abundant in the monitored markets for the last part of the month. Vendors opted to sell imported-frozen galunggong as a substitute commodity for its local variant. 3. Limited and unstable supplies for medium-sized alumahan were noted at the monitored retail markets this month. Moreover, most of the supplies available in the retail markets are large-sized. 4. Aquaculture commodities like Bangus and Tilapia continue to have sufficient supplies in the monitored retail markets. This resulted to a stable prevailing price this month. 5. Top fishery commodities in the sixteen (18) monitored retail markets are sourced mainly from the following areas: a. Bangus - Bulacan b. Tilapia - Batangas c. Local Galunggong - Navotas Fish Port (Palawan) & Lucena, Quezon d. Imported Galunggong - Navotas e. Alumahan - Malabon Fish Port 6. Fluctuations in the prices of the top fifteen (15) and other commodities are influenced by a number of factors such as the commodity's size, quality, volume of supply, source area, as well as the Remarks/Market weather condition and other natural phenomena. Observations *Rastrilleger kanagurta or Alumahan (Php200 - Php320/kg)- lowest prevailing price of Php200.00/kg were recorded at primary type or "Bagsakan" Markets (Commonwealth, Farmers, Balintawak and Navotas) which usually offers at a lower price. Highest prevailing price of Php320.00/kg were noted from secondary Markets (Pasig and Marikina) that are usually source their supplies from primary markets resulting to sell at higher price. *Decapterus macarellus or Balsa (Php140 - Php240/kg)- lowest prevailing price of Php140.00/kg was recorded in Navotas and Balintawak market where supplies were abundant during the 1st week of this month, thus, were sold at a lower price. Highest prevailing price of Php240.00/kg was noted in Balintawak Market where supplies were limited in the last week of the month due to the bad weather condition brought by southwest moonson or "Habagat " resulting to a higher price. *Parupeneus sp. or Saramulyete (Php140 - Php250/kg)- Both the lowest and the highest price were recorded at Commonwealth Market. The difference in the price may be attributed to the size of the commodity. Small-sized Saramulyete are priced at Php140.00/kg and the large-sized are priced at Php250.00/kg. 7. Price monitoring activity (physical and vis SMS) at Quinta and Trabajo Markets have resumed on 27 July 2021 following its temporary suspension for the on-boarding program of the new enumerator last 5 July 2021 . 8. Matumal ang bentahan" continued to be apparent at the monitored retail market this month. This may be attributed to the minimal demand for fishery commodities due to low influx of buyers at the retail markets. Relative to this, most vendors do the following: a) Sell lower volumes or limited varieties of fishery commodities to ensure that all supplies are sold out by the end of the day; and b) Open their fish stalls on an alternate-day schedule or only during weekends where there is higher influx of people. 9. Market administrators continue to implement and observe precautionary safety measures against COVID-19 in accordance with the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) protocols to ensure that vendors and consumers protected against the virus. Among these measures are wearing of facemasks and face shields, mandatory temperature checks, and regularly scheduled cleaning and disinfection, and others.
