ABOUT UVU’S ATHLETICS NCAA HISTORY Until 2003, Utah Valley University competed as a NJCAA athletic program. The 2003-04 season was the school’s first competing at an NCAA Division I level. In the summer of 2009, UVU’S provisional status was lifted and the program became a full member of NCAA Division I on July 8, 2009. Until then, UVU teams and individuals were not eligible to compete in NCAA championship events.

The Wolverines spent six seasons as an independent before the Great West Conference became an all-sports league in 2008 and began its first full season in 2009. UVU also became a university in 2008, changing its name from Utah Valley State College (UVSC) to Utah Valley University (UVU).

Utah Valley is the first and last school ever to jump from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division I status. 5 UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S SOCCER

The win marks Utah Valley's first road victory of the season as the team improves to 4-5-1 over- all. UNLV falls to 3-5-0 with the loss.

"This takes a monkey off our backs for sure," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "We hadn't found a result on the road yet. We're really happy about scoring three goals and equally as happy about the shutout."

Carter put the Wolverines on the scoreboard in just the seventh minute of the game as she put in a shot off a UVU corner kick.

Jocelyn Bybee scored her first collegiate goal as she gave the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage in the 51st minute. Bybee charged the keeper in the six and was able to deflect the ball right into the back of the net for the score.

"Jocelyn (Bybee) got a great read on it and jumped early and was committed," said Lemay about UVU's second goal. "Anytime you can press them that high up the field good things can happen."

Carter secured her brace after Breanna DeWaal kicked a corner into the box where Jenna Shep- herd headed it toward the goal. The ball bounced off the post back toward the center of the goal where Carter fired it in with her left foot for the goal in the 69th minute. Shepherd was credited with the assist on the score. Carter's two goals on Sunday are her team-leading fourth and fifth of the season.

Allie Jara played 75 minutes to pick up her second shutout of the season. She tallied four saves on the night. Saydee Bacdad played the final 15 minutes in the box.

Bybee led the Wolverines with a game-high five shots, including two on frame. Carter had four shots, including three on goal. Heather Stainbrook, DeWaal, and Sadie Brockbank each had two goals, while Amber Tripp had one. UVU out-shot UNLV 16-12, including a 7-4 shots on goal advantage. 15 UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S SOCCER
