Arrangements for these activities should operate in accordance with guidelines agreed by the Council and as available via the following link – Filming Policy 5 6 AGENDA ITEM NO. 5 ARUN DISTRICT COUNCIL REPORT TO AND DECISION OF THE FULL COUNCIL MEETING ON 12 SEPTEMBER 2018 SUBJECT: Petition from Bognor Regis Civic Society – Provision of a Permanent Ice Rink REPORT AUTHOR: Karl Roberts, Director of Place DATE: August 2018 EXTN: 01903 737760 PORTFOLIO AREA: Leader of the Council and Economy EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: A petition was submitted to the Council meeting on 2 May 2018 by the Bognor Regis Civic Society. As the petition contains over 1,500 signatures, it requires a debate by Full Council. This report provides background information with a recommendation for the Council to consider in holding this debate. RECOMMENDATIONS: The Council is asked to consider whether to: 1. take the action the petition requests; or 2. not to take the action requested for reasons put forward in the debate; or 3. commission further investigation into the request; or 4. support the following statement:- “The Council welcomes the support given to the seasonal temporary Ice Rink and will continue to work positively with commercial operators to the successful delivery of similar events in the future. Regarding a permanent facility the Council will provide non-financial support to any commercial operator who has a sound business case to deliver such a facility on the outskirts of the town.” 1.0 BACKGROUND 1.1 The Council’s Constitution confirms at Part 8 (Codes and Protocols), Section 8 how the Petition Scheme operates. The petition submitted by the Bognor Regis Civic Society includes 2,479 signatures from people living or working within the Arun District. As the petition contains more than 1,500 signatures, it requires a debate by Full Council. The petition was deferred to this meeting of Full Council, rather than the previous meeting on 18 July 2018 to enable the officer team to compile this report to inform Members at this debate. 7 1.2 The petition asks the Council: “In view of the tremendous success of the Christmas temporary Ice Rink, we, the undersigned, petition Arun District Council to incorporate a permanent, quality Ice Rink, possibly multi-use, into the Bognor Regis Regeneration plans currently under consideration.” 2.0 PROCEDURE FOR THE DEBATE 2.1 As confirmed in the Petitions Scheme, the procedure for the debate is: i. the Bognor Regis Civic Society representative will be allowed 5 minutes (maximum) to present their petition; ii. Councillor Mrs Brown, as the relevant Cabinet Member, will have 5 minutes (maximum) to respond; and iii. there will be a debate for up to 30 minutes, with each Councillor allowed to speak for a maximum of 3 minutes (the Chairman of the Council can use his discretion to extend the length of the debate).

    SOLENT-THAMES RESEARCH FRAMEWORK RESOURCE ASSESSMENT THE LOWER/MIDDLE PALAEOLITHIC PERIOD Francis Wenban-Smith, with David Bridgland and Kate Cramp April 2010 (County contributions by Terry Hardaker, Robert Hosfield, Rebecca Loader, Barbara Silva, Keith Wilkinson; palaeoenvironmental contribution by Mike Allen) 1 INTRODUCTION This review of the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic resource in the Solent-Thames region considers the region as a whole, embracing the five county authorities of: Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Previous reviews ( Table 1 ) have given a detailed picture of the resource in each county. This synthesis combines this information to provide a more general overview of the nature, distribution, diversity and potential importance of the resource in the region. Table 1. Following this, the current landscape of the Solent-Thames region is reviewed, focusing on topography, drainage and bedrock geology, but also considering the potential for paleoenvironmental and human remains ( Section 3 ); these contemporary landscape aspects are intimately related to the present survival and distribution of Pleistocene deposits, and the story they tell of climatic change and landscape development through the long period covered by the Lower/Middle Palaeolithic ( Section 4 ).

Having had to move out of the Lodgings at the beginning instead of the end of the summer vacation, in order to allow time for necessary work to be done, I feel as if I am having an unusually prolonged retirement process, but the moment will come when the clock strikes midnight on 30 September and I cease to be Warden and Sir Jonathan Phillips takes over. The past sixteen years have been an extraordinarily rich experience, and I suspect that no one except another head of house really knows the full range of what is entailed.

    Chick Zamick Canadian Who Played For

    Chick Zamick Canadian who played for Nottingham Panthers in the postwar heyday of English ice hockey A Canadian who came to Britain after the Second World War, Victor “Chick” Zamick was one of a large number of his countrymen who sustained the fortunes of professional ice hockey in this country for a period of about 15 years after 1945. A Winnipeg man, he played for Nottingham Panthers, a team whose membership consisted very largely of players from his native city. The British Ice Hockey Association had been founded in 1913, giving the sport, which was very much an import from North America, a governing body in the UK. A gold medal in the 1936 Winter Olympics, won by a British team of decidedly Canadian origin, fuelled interest in the game and from the mid‐1930s professional teams were regularly featured in rinks in and around London. In such fabled venues as the Empire Pool, Wembley, Brighton Sports Stadium, the London Empress Hall, Harringay Arena and Streaham Ice Rink, teams drawing their strength from Canadian players made the game a headline affair in prewar England. While the young Canadians who dominated the rosters were not skilled enough to earn a living in North American pro leagues, they were far better than anything Europe had to offer. Hockey might not get them to the National Hockey League but it was a way to skate away from the family farm or local nickel mine. The English National League began as a seven‐team loop, expanded to 11 in its second year of operation.
