Manaslu Trek Alternative Route Overview The word Manaslu means “Mountain of the Spirit.” It comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa meaning intellect or soul. The Manaslu circuit trek located in the Gorkha District is in the north central area of Nepal. Manaslu offers a wide selection of trekking options for almost every taste. The current road construction which links Soti Khola with the Tibetan border offers an unexpected advantage for today’s trekkers. You’ll enjoy a stunning alternative trek which takes you on a higher scenic route through Baseri Village. Several Nepal Trekking Experts (NTE) guides are from the area, providing you a glimpse of Nepalese Village life when trekking with one of these locals. The alternative route avoids the hot, crowded and dusty regular road, leading you through a deep and unspoiled gorge. Because this is an untrammeled, non-tourist area, you’ll experience a home stay rather than the typical teahouse. This meaningful experience establishes a direct connection with local villagers and exposes you to their unique dialect, history, culture and daily lifestyle. From Baseri, you’ll make your way to Yarsa and then Kasigaun, which offers a beautiful view of rolling hills. An overnight in the massif village of Kerauja affords you a different perspective on this untouched area. The Kerauja trail meets up with the regular route to Dovan and Jagat. Within two short days, snow-capped Mt. Manaslu will come into focus leading you to a fresh appreciation of the Himalayan surroundings. Enhance the experience with side trips to Pungen Gumpa, Manaslu Base Camp or the Tibetan border.

  • Economic Empowerment of Women in Rural Nepal Through Renewable En- Ergy Access
Saurav Lamichhane Economic Empowerment of Women in Rural Nepal Through Renewable En- ergy Access Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Bachelor of Engineering Environmental Engineering Bachelor’s Thesis 17 August 2019 Author(s) Saurav Lamichhane Title Economic Empowerment of Women in Rural Nepal through Renewable Energy Access Number of Pages 46 pages + 4 appendices Date 17 August 2019 Degree Bachelor of Engineering Degree Programme Environmental Engineering Specialization option Renewable Energy Instructor(s) Pentti Viluksela, Thesis Supervisor Jiwan Mallik, Project Supervisor This thesis focuses on the socio-economic and electrification status in one of the rural municipalities (RM) of Nepal. The primary data for the research was collected on the field visit to Dharche Municipality in Gorkha District. 10 household surveys were con- ducted and focus group discussion (FGD) was held in two of the wards in the Dharche rural municipality. The Dharche rural municipality is one of the low HDI ranked RM in Nepal with partially electrified status. The project design was based on the premise that lack of access to sustainable, reliable and affordable clean energy services for lighting, cooking, and heating has been result- ing low socio-economic status, among several other reasons. The project also at- tempted to cover the economic growth and opportunities that have been hindered for women empowerment and women’s potential for undertaking various livelihood activi- ties. Furthermore, this thesis studies will foresee the use of energy and energy services as an economic empowerment tool for locals of Dharche RM, especially women. It also addresses the key development challenges of gender disparity and women’s unequal access to economic resources and assets, including environmental goods and services, underemployment and low levels of participation in decision-making.

No.: Kathmandu, Nepal Foreword Nepal has made significant progress in achieving good results in school enrolment by having more children in school over the past decade, in spite of the unstable situation in the country. However, there are still many challenges related to equity when the net enrolment data are disaggregated at the district and school level, which are crucial and cannot be generalized. As per Flash Monitoring Report 2014- 15, the net enrolment rate for girls is high in primary school at 93.6%, it is 59.5% in lower secondary school, 42.5% in secondary school and only 8.1% in higher secondary school, which show that fewer girls complete the full cycle of education.

  • Nepal Earthquake Response Inter-Cluster Coordination, Kathmandu
Nepal Earthquake Response Inter-Cluster Coordination, Kathmandu Prioritisation for inter-agency cargo transport 1. Background Considering the heavy demand for logistics services including storage, road and air transport, the Logistics Cluster asked OCHA to coordinate the consolidation of priority in terms of cargo through the inter-cluster coordination group. The ICC group at its meeting on 15 June 2015 agreed to develop a list of priority emergency relief items and their destinations for airlifting. The resulting note below was endorsed by the Humanitarian Country Team on 15 July. 2. Prioritisation for air transport Key parameters for prioritising relief items for airlifting are as follows: Alignment with the flash appeal strategy: “The first priority of the response is to reach the worst affected and those in the farthest affected mountainous areas before the monsoons cause further damage and cut off access. … Because of the urgency of delivering soon … and given the limitations on the size, weight, and types of cargo that can be handled, the first focus will be on providing essential supplies to help these vulnerable populations through the rains. Typically these would include tarps, tools, blankets, food, water tablets, and other essential NFIs.” (page 12) Sectors in order of priority: 1) Shelter, 2) Food, 3) Health, 4) WASH, 5) Education, 6) Nutrition. Sectors in terms of percentage of cargo to be transported (planned target by weight): Shelter 50%, Food 40%, Other Sectors 10% Geographic coverage: Hard-to-reach areas of Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and areas adjacent to these districts Internal district prioritisation is set at the district level in accordance with their much more thorough planning and knowledge, in coordination with district authorities and through clusters.
