Reconstruction

DFID is designing a new programme of reconstruction. The major component will include funding for community infrastructure projects in Gorkha as well as a small number of other earthquake-affected districts. Pre-existing DFID programs have also ‘flexed’ to include post-earthquake reconstruction activities. For example, we have increased our funding to the Gorkha Welfare Scheme for WASH rehabilitation and reconstruction. In Gorkha we will also be funding the reconstruction of two police posts in Masel and Gyalchowk VDCs, as prioritised by Nepal Police Headquarters, through UNOPS as part of our Integrated Programme for Strengthening Security and Justice.

Humanitarian Response

As part of the humanitarian response, DFID has funded partner organisations both nationwide and in specific affected district s in a range of sectors, including shelter, logistics, camp coordination, WASH and protection. In Gorkha, this has included support to key logistics services provided by MAF and the World Food Programme; support to IOM for camp management and rubble removal; and support to Care Nepal, Save the Children and People In Need for shelter, WASH, protection and winterisation activities. We also support IOM-UN Habitat nationwide for the housing sector coordination mechanism, HRRP.
