Win. “Simply put, our expectations are to win,” Trost said. “Our goals are to win the division, win 20 games and get to the NCAA tournament.” What might have been considered lofty goals a couple of seasons ago suddenly don’t appear so unrealistic after the w performance turned in by the Flyers last season. In just his first season as head coach, Trost took a team which had posted consecutive sub-.500 seasons and turned it into a 15-13 squad that played in its first Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament game in three years, despite losing its leading scorer to injury at the end of the season. Now in his second season at the helm, and with a healthy lineup, Trost is ready to take the Flyers to the next level. “Based on what we have returning and our experience from last season, our goals are certainly attainable,” Trost

In his first season at Lewis, Trost guided the Flyers to a respectable 15-13 overall record which included a 10-9 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Confer- ence. The Flyers qualified for the GLVC tournament for the first time since 2004, bowing out to top-seeded Southern Indiana in the first round. Prior to arriving at Lewis, Trost enjoyed a highly successful tenure at Illinois Wesleyan, posting a 101-38 (.727) overall record and a 50-20 (.714) mark in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) during his five seasons as the helm. The Titans captured three consecutive CCIW titles (2003-05) and made four successive NCAA Division III Championship tournament appearances w (2003-06) under his guidance. The 2005-06 Titans were 25-7 and finished third in the nation, beating Am- herst 71-68 in the NCAA tournament consolation game after being edged 81-79 by eventual national champion Virginia Wesleyan in the semifinals. Trost led Illinois Wesleyan to the Division III round of 16 in 2003 and 2004. Trost was named CCIW Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Division III Coach of the Year the past four seasons. He coached two CCIW Most Outstanding Players, Keelan Amelianovich (2004) and Adam Dauksas (2005). Trost owns 10 years of experience and a 168-99 (.629) overall record as a head coach. He tallied a 52-48 ledger in four seasons at CCIW member Elm- hurst, including a 16-9 mark in his final year (1995-96). In Trost’s final season as assistant coach, the Bluejays were 19-9 - best in program history at the time - and advanced to the second round in their first NCAA Division III Championship tournament appearance. Trost left Elmhurst in 1996 to become an assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where he served four seasons in that capacity before being promoted to associate head coach for the 2000-01 campaign. Study hall is just one of many elements in the Flyers’ total academic emphasis. Flyers In The Community For the men’s basketball program, reaching out to the com- munity is just as important as succeeding on the court and in the classroom. During the school year, the Flyers frequently take time out to visit local schools where they speak at assemblies, read in classrooms and connect with area youth. This season each Lewis athletic program has adopted one local school to work with exclusively in an effort to promote read- ing. The men’s basketball team selected Kenneth L. Hermansen Elementary School (Romeoville, Ill.) as its adopted school. Members of the team go the school on a regular basis to read to students. In addition, the students track minutes read on their own in the hopes of winning a pizza party at a future Flyers’ game.

Members of the men’s basketball team speak to students at Joliet’s Forest Park Elementary School about the importance of education, staying focused and working hard to achieve goals.
