Here is the line-up and as always, there are 2 each of the first four wines (*) and 1 each of the last four wines. *2009 Terra Andina Sauvignon Blanc (Central Valley, Chile) - ripe and pure with crisp tangerine and peach flavors and a rich lingering finish. Try it with fish or poultry-especially dishes that have a hint of spice. *2009 Terra Andina Merlot (Central Valley, Chile)- smooth, rich and well balanced with berry and cocoa flavors framed by a sturdy structure-a real wine drinker’s Merlot. It is perfect with pizza, pasta or steak. *2008 Dom. Dupre "Terre Noire" Beaujolais Vielles Vignes (Burgundy, FR) – (100% Gamay ) The nose is expressive and complex with notes of red and black berries. It is full bodied and has a presence in mouth worthy of a “cru”. Sere it with Roast pork, poultry or veal. Goes well with blue cheese. Serve slightly chilled, about the temperature of our store (60-63 degrees F) *2009 Monte Schiavo "Pallio di San Floriano" Verdicchio Classico (Marche, IT) –This year just 2% of 20,000 Italian wines will be awarded “Tre Bicchieri” (3 glasses) from Gambero Rosso, the bible published once each year. The ’09 “Pallio di Floriano” is among that 2%. An intense and long-lasting bouquet with hints of ripe fruit. It has delicate flavors with a touch of sage and almond with a long finish. NV Bodegas Pinord "Chatel" Cava Brut (Catalunya, Spain) "…a phenomenal value in a crisp, dry, from Spain. A blend of Macabaeo, Xarello, and Parellada, it is a light-bodied, fresh effort revealing notes of citrus, apple skins, pears, honey, and wheat thins. This refreshing, fruity, sparkling white wine is best drunk over the next year." (WA 8/10) 2008 X Winery "Red X" (California) – “Another brilliant blend as well as an unreal value is the 2008 Red X, a North Coast California blend of 60% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 19% Zinfandel. Deep ruby/purple- hued with plenty of peppery black currant fruit intermixed with roasted herb and spice box characteristics, it is a fleshy, rich, soft, exuberant, hedonistic turn-on to drink over the next 2-3 years.” (WA 12/09) 2007 Cantine Volpetti Cesanese del Piglio (Lazio, Italy) - (Cesanese del piglio with cesanese comune from surrounding vineyard sites blended into this vintage.)The Cesanese Lazio is produced by the small family estate Volpetti in the Prenestina hills southeast of Rome. Cesanese is the true native red local variety cultivated here, hence it's fame as the authentic Roman red wine. An excellent flavorful red wine with a dark ruby color and rich aroma, elegant with soft tannins. Aged 8 months in French barriques. 2009 Dom. Rois Mages Bouzeron Aligote (Burgundy, France) – 100% Aligoté from Bouzeron (famous for it’s Aligote), located in the Macon a crispy fresh chewy mouth and delicate strength. A perfect chemistry between livelyness and roundness. A wine for immediate pleasure, spontaneously offering its charm and freshness. It reveals aromas of nut, citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit) and exotic fruits. (winemakers notes)

RHONE 2009 It seems that the 2009 vintage in Rhone will be a good one. Dry warm weather throughout the valley was prefaced by a wet winter that left the water tables higher than normal. Cote Rotie is supposed to be the superstar but all appellations are said to be excited about the quality of their wines. The Cote-Du-Rhones we have tasted so far are quite easy to enjoy with riper red fruit and good weight. Here are two to try: 2009 le Clos du Caillou, Cotes Du Rhone - $18.95 2009 Domaine de Piagier, “La Grange de Piaugier”, Cotes de Rhone - $11.95

WHAT’S THE POINT Frankly, we have a love/hate relationship with the American system of awarding points to wine. As a retailer we know, at some level, the right “score” can help us sell a wine. On the other hand great wines that do not get reviewed, many by choice, or have a particular wine style that does not fit the point givers palate get short shrift. That is why, in our newsletter, we use the written wine reviews (which can be illuminating and sometimes very funny), but we do not include points. James Suckling, a former reviewer for Wine Spectator has never met a wine to which he could not respond numerically, as you can see here from a strange promotional video for his new wine website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-1wK-7Ul_Q&NR=1

NEW ARRIVALS 2004 Il Poggione , Tuscany, Italy – “The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is awesome. This finessed, regal Brunello flows onto the palate with seamless layers of perfumed fruit framed by silky, finessed tannins. The wine remains extremely primary at this stage, and its full range of aromas and flavors have yet to emerge, but the sheer pedigree of this Brunello is unmistakable. The elegant, refined finish lasts an eternity, and subtle notes of menthol, spices, licorice and leather add final notes of complexity. The estate’s 2004 Brunello is a wine to buy and bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. Brunello is never inexpensive, but this is the real deal, and in relative terms, it is one of the world’s great values in fine, cellar worthy wine. Incredibly, there are 18,000+ cases of the 2004 Brunello, so it should be fairly easy to source in various markets. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034.” (WA# 183) $68.95 2007 Ruca Malen Kinien Malbec, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina – “The 2007 Kinien Malbec was aged for 14 months in new French oak. It is a glass-coating opaque purple with a nicely perfumed nose of wood smoke, mineral, violets, incense, black cherry, and plum. Medium-bodied, elegant, and layered, it has a smooth palate-feel, savory flavors, and good length. It has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years and will be at its best from 2011 to 2019.” (eRobertParker.com # 184) $29.95 2008 Domaine Thierry Matrot Meursault Villages White – “An aromatically expressive and slightly oaky nose of hazelnut, pear and white peach precedes the fresh and quite dry middle weight flavors that display a fine minerality on the beautifully balanced and distinctly lemony finish. This could be approached now with pleasure but should reward 3 to 5 years of upside if desired. Lovely. - Comments: Outstanding Top value” (Burghound Issue 39) $44.95 2008 Corinne Perchaud, Chablis, A.O.C- “Corinne Perchaud and her husband Jean-Pierre Grossot began working in the Domaine in 1980, but the estate was originally founded in 1920. They are the third generation of winemakers at this family estate, located in the village of Fleys, in the heart of the Chablis appellation. "Smells like two pieces of limestone struck together. Lemon, green apple and flint flavors mingle on the palate as this fades to a long finish. Offers nice balance and persistence. Best from 2011 through 2015." (WS Insider June 2010) $17.95
