Xining Xining is the capital of Qinghai Province in western China, and the largest city on the Qinghai- Plateau. The city was a commercial hub along the Northern Silk Road's Hexi Corridor for over 2000 years, and was a stronghold of the Han, Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties' resistance against nomadic attacks from the west. The city is located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and lies in the Huangshui River valley, with its average altitude of about 2,200 metres (7,200 ft). It is connected by rail to , Tibet and Lanzhou, Gansu. Xining holds sites of religious significance to Muslims and Buddhists, including the Dongguan Mosque and Ta'er Monastery. Xining has also been dubbed the Summer Resort Capital of China owing to its cool summer, with a cold semi-arid climate.

Travel to and from Xining There are direct flights connecting Xining with more than 20 domestic cities in China.

Insurance The organizers cannot be responsible for personal accidents or material damage, which may occur to the participants during the conference and tours. All the participants are advised to make their own arrangements in respect to health and travel insurance before commencing their journey to the conference.

Climate Dubbed as the Summer Resort Capital of China, conditions in Xining are influenced by the aridity and high altitude. Nights are cold or cool throughout the year. Based on the climate data for Xining (1971–2000), in August the average high temperature is 23.9 °C (75 °F) and the average low temperature 11.1°C (52 °F), and precipitation 74 mm. Mean monthly sunshine hours in August is 244.4 hours. [
