BOLLIG-LEHNERT Trittenheim & Piesport Wine Estates in Germany BOLLIG-LEHNERT Trittenheim & Piesport Region: MOSEL-SAAR-RUWER Vineyards: Trittenheim (Apotheke, Altärchen) Piesport (Goldtröpfchen, Falkenberg) Dhron (Dhron- Hofberger) Varietals: Riesling Owner: the Bollig family Winemaker: Stefan Bollig Remarks: appealing, light & stylish, crisp predicate Mosel wines Stefan Bollig, is young (vintage 1961!) and passionately devoted to his work, is a fine example of the new generation of Mosel vintners. The family has been producing wine since the 17th Century, but new cellars and house have been built on the outskirts of Trittenheim. Stefan and his wife Jill live in the former estate house in Piesport at the foot of the Goldtröpfchen vineyard (one of the most famous vineyard sites in the Mosel, if not all of Germany), welcoming visitors at their quaint Gutsauschank (wine-pub with light local food). The family tends to the 4 hectares (10 acres) of estate vineyards themselves. These steeply sloping vineyards are composed mainly of slatey soil that imparts a delicate mineral flavor to the wines. Stefan has been managing the estate since 1987, after completing his viticultural studies and practical experience in Trier and Bad Kreuznach, although his father is still actively involved. Dedication to the estate and costly investments has achieved a high standard of quality. Not many small estates would invest into such an expensive and modern low-pressure tank press which is so essential for producing a clear and clean must. The wines ferment and mature in wooden Fuder (1,000 liters) casks in the cool underground cellars, the natural sweetness being retained, where appropriate. Stefan Bollig's wines are stylish, crisp and classic with a fine fruity elegance and good mineral content, not showing excessive sweetness. The fine, pronounced, yet ripe acidity, especially in recent vintages since 1988, gives his wines plenty of maturing potential. A new label with matching gold capsule, depicting the estate house in Piesport and has been taken from an engraving in the family's possession and was introduced during 1995 to emphasize the classic style of the wines. BOLLIG -LEHNERT Riesling Spätlese Mosel Piesporter Goldtröpfchen 2011 Goldtropfchen is one of the best-known individual vineyards (Einzellagen) in the Mosel region of Germany. It is located in the district (Grosslage) of Michelsberg, in, as the name implies, the town of Piesport. This vineyard consists of steep, slate slopes arranged in a dramatic amphitheater-like shape for ideal exposure. The excellent Rieslings are typically sun-warmed and ripe, with pronounced slate minerality and balancing acidity. RUDI WIEST SELECTIONS legendary german wine estates winter 2013 HOOKED!: Nahe (a signature label by Rudi Wiest) Grown in the Nahe region of Germany, Hooked! Riesling shows a classic Nahe profile, it is very racy and sleek. Hooked! 2010 Riesling - 12/750ml Net $108 6,000 cases produced DR. F. WEINS-PRÜM: Mosel-Saar-Ruwer After the division of the original Prüm estate, Anna Prüm, the youngest of the Mathias Prüm children and her husband Dr. F. Weins, used this inheritance to establish the Dr. F. Weins-Prüm estate. Worth seeing is the cross-vaulted cellar which forms the foundation of today’s manor house built in 1924. The estate totals 12.5 acres, most on steeply sloping terrain, and is planted 100% to Riesling. Holdings include Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Klosterberg, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Waldracher Sonnenberg, Erdener Prälat and some holdings in Ürzig. The estate is a founding member of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer V.D.P. Today under Bert Selbach’s (pictured) direction, the wines offer great value and quality. Dr. F. Quality is always the focus at this estate, and quantity is extremely limited. Today Oliver Haag (pictured with Wilhelm Haag) of Fritz Haag estate, whose family has been engaged in viticulture at Brauneberg since 1605, is the town’s most important proprietor. One of his ancestors was a co-founder of the Brauneberger-Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyard site.
