Rasool-Allah’s (Prophet ) said:

“I am about to answer the call (of death). Verily, I leave behind two precious things ( thaqalayn ) amongst you: the Book of Allah (Qur-aan) and my Ahlul-Bayt. Verily, the two will never separate until they come back to me by the side of the Pond.” We need to stay connected with both – Qur-aan & Ahlul-Bayt

Our Responsibility towards Qur-aan 1. Learn to recite Qur-aan as accurately as possible. 2. Understand its meanings through the teachings of Ahlul-Bayt (sa) 3. Practice the commands in Qur-aan such as: When the verse “[O Muhammad] Say, 'I do not ask for any reward for this [bringing of Allah's message] except the love for the near kinship [qurba]. " (42:23) was revealed, the Muslims asked the Prophet: "Who are these near kin of yours whose love is obligatory upon us?“ The Prophet replied, "'Ali, Fatima, and their two sons."

Aadaab of Tilaawat-e-Qur-aan

1. Read Salawwat before and after reciting the Qur- aan. 2. Always start the recitation with Ta’awwuz

So when you recite the Qur'an, [first] seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy]. [16:98]

Definition of Tajweed & Tarteel What is at-Tarteel?  According to Imam Ali (as) at-Tarteel means: “Tajweedul-huroof wa Ma’rifatul-wuqoof”  That is; to recite every letter with Tajweed and to know where to stop and where to start (continue).  Thus, there are two parts to at-Tarteel: a. Tajweedul-Huroof, and b. Ma’rifatul-Wuqoof

Huroof-e-Tahajji, Arabic Letters are represented by the shapes shown on the right. Each letter is pronounced in a specific manner called Makhrej or Makhaarij (plural).

What is Ghunnah?

 Done on two letters: Meem-e- Mushaddad and Noon-e-Mushaddad.  Done by bringing air from the oral cavity to the nasal cavity.  Must be stretched 2 seconds (according to the readers standards).

The Rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween

 Noon Saakin means a Noon with a Jazm/Sukoon on it.  Tanween means two Fatha (Nasb), two Kasra (Jar), and two Dhamma (Raf)  There are four rules related to Noon Saakin and Tanween .  In all of the rules, you must look at the letter after the Noon Saakin or Tanween to determine which rule to follow.

Izhaar  When the noon saakin or tanween is followed by any of the Huroof al-Halaqiyya, Izhaar will take place. ,Guttural Letters , اَ ْ َ َِ  ُ The huroof al-halaqiyya  letters that are pronounced from the throat, Division III, Group 2; are: ءه ع ح غ خ

 Izhaar means to pronounce the “N” sound of the noon saakin or tanween clearly WITHOUT stretching it . SG

Iqlaab (Qalb)

 If a letter BAA appears after the Noon Saakin or

Tanween , Iqlaab will take place.  Iqlaab means to change the sound of a Noon Saakin or tanween (“N” sound) into a meem . The sound will also be stretched into a Ghunna . Usually there is a little meem to signify this change. SG

Idghaam (Naaqis & Kaamil)

 Idghaam means to combine or merge the “N” sound of the Noon or tanween with the following letter.  If after the Noon Saakin or Tanween any of the ,Yaa, Raa, Meem, Laam, Waaw) ر ون letters of Noon) appear, Idghaam will be done. (Yaa, Waaw, Meem, Noon) ون ,In four letters  Idghaam will be WITH Ghunna , called Idghaam Naaqis . Laam and Raa), Idghaam will) ل ر ,In the two letters  be without Ghunna , called Idghaam Kaamil . Ikhfa

 There are 15 letters of Ikhfa ; they are: ت ث ج د ذ ز س ش ص ض ط ظ ف كق  Whenever any of these fifteen letters appear after Noon Saakin or Tanween, Ikhfa will be done.  Ikhfa means to slightly “hide” the “N” sound of the Noon Saakin and Tanween, bring the shadow of the letter, vibrate in the nose , and lengthen it slightly, i.e. perform Ghunna.
