3 Petty Pool 2016 On Monday 18th April thirteen lucky students departed on a one night residential adventure to Petty Pool outdoor centre.

The students had the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities including climbing wall, archery, zip wire and team building exercises. They even did a forest walk and had the opportunity to meet some small farm animals.

Every single student showed an exceptional amount of determination and courage. Chloe Ward, a student with restricted mobility, took on the challenge of the climbing wall.

Oliver Conway, despite his fear of the zip wire, braved it and loved it! These are just two examples of the superb courage demonstrated on this highly thrilling, albeit exhausting, residential visit.

The students even had some time in the evening for dancing, singing and ‘chilling’ whilst drinking hot chocolate and watching a movie, needless to say, they went straight to sleep that night!

Well done to all of the students and staff involved, now to start planning the next visit…

Football Our footballers have had a busy week. On Tuesday the U16s (below) won 3-0 away at Poynton in the semi final of the Macclesfield and district cup.

The U12s played in the final of the Macclesfield and district cup on Thursday. The team have made excellent progress in the second half of the season, so it was disappointing to lose out 2-1 against a strong Poynton side.

In a third match against Poynton this week, the U15s finished off their season in style on Thursday, winning 3-1 to win the Macclesfield and district dup for the sixth consecutive year.

Game 2 vs RGS Guildford (0-0)

Game 3 vs Repton School (lost 1-0)

Overall, the team, although frustrated, finished the day knowing that they had competed in and dominated large parts of the games against the best opposition the country has to offer. I am sure each of the students will remember the experience of playing in the national stadium for a long time.

The Robin Hood Olympics are supported by Wilmslow High School Get Set for Community Action Group, the St Bartholomew’s Drama Group and Weston Digital Imaging. Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra St George’s Day Concert Press Release

Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra’s next concert takes place on St George’s Day, and how better to mark the occasion than by a concert of English music.

The main work is Elgar’s First Symphony, the composer at his peak, confident and flamboyant, but also romantic and expressive. It’s prefaced by his Cockaigne Overture, a countryman’s view of bustling Edwardian London. Elgar once said, regarding his Pomp and Circumstance Marches, that he had ”something of the soldier in me”.

As a change from ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ we are playing the Fifth of the Marches, a late work from 1930. But if you are in a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ mood, you can join in a novelty, a new arrangement of ‘Rule, Britannia!’ by clarinettist Geoff Thomason. Contrasting nicely with Elgar’s ebullience, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves in the distillation of the English Pastoral style, a perfect piece of countryside quiet.

Robert Chasey conducts. The concert takes place on Saturday 23rd April at 7.45pm in Wilmslow Leisure Centre. Tickets cost £12 (Concession £10, Under 18s £2).

Tickets may be obtained from the Ticket Secretary (01925 756 144), at Bang & Olufsen, Alderley Rd (01625 527666), at Therapy, Bank Sq (01625 400113), or at the door.
