    Admissions Policy for Accrington Academy Preamble: 1. This document sets out the proposed arrangements for Accrington Academy, throughout this document referred to as “the Academy”. These arrangements are without prejudice to the provisions of Annex B to the Master Agreement. The document forms an annex to the Supplemental Agreement between United Learning Trust (‘ULT’) and the Secretary of State. References in this document to “parents” include guardians and carers. 2. The Academy will comply with all relevant provisions of the statutory codes on admissions (the School Admissions Code and the School Admission Appeals Code of Practice) as they apply at any given time to maintained schools and with the law on admissions as it applies to maintained schools. Reference in the codes to admission authorities shall be deemed to be references to ULT. References to “the LA” shall be deemed to be references to Lancashire County Council and references to “the Admissions Forum” to be to the Lancashire admissions Forum. In particular, the Academy will take part in the Admissions Forum set up by the LA and have regard to its advice; and will participate in the co-ordinated admission arrangements operated by the LA. 3. Notwithstanding these arrangements, the Secretary of State may direct the Academy to admit a named pupil to the Academy on application from an LA. Before doing so the Secretary of State will consult the Academy. Admission Arrangements to be Approved by Secretary of State 4.     Appendix two Proposed admission arrangements for 2020-2021 for Cheshire West and Chester community and voluntary controlled schools Part one Applications for school places for the normal admission round into reception the September following the child’s fourth birthday, transfer to secondary school the September following the child’s eleventh birthday and applications received for in year (i.e. into any year group outside the normal admission round), shall be determined in accordance with the provisions set out below. These admission arrangements apply to all community and voluntary controlled schools, as listed in Part three, admissions within the borough for the school year 2020-21 and for subsequent years, subject to any review. Compulsory school age Children reach compulsory school age at the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. Under the council’s policy, children may start school in the reception class in the September following their fourth birthday. Applications for admission are normally considered in relation to the availability of places in the child’s chronological age group, other than in exceptional circumstances. Parents can request that the date their child starts school in the reception class is deferred until later in the school year or until the child reaches compulsory school age in that school year. Applications for deferred admissions must be made by the published closing date. For parents and carers with children born between 1 April and 31 August they should contact the authority to obtain information on the ‘Summer Born Policy’ and for advice if they wish to consider delaying their child’s entry for a full year.

    Sixth Form Colleges’ Fine Art Exhibition Catalogue 17 - 20 March 2014 House of Commons THE ART The AoC Sixth Form Colleges’ Art Exhibition showcases some of the best Fine Art produced by students. The criteria were broad and images were chosen for their aesthetic and technical qualities with the range of entries highlighting the open and inclusive nature of the competition. Art remains an essential part of the curriculum in sixth form colleges and the exhibition celebrates the excellence of their students and the superb staff who teach them. THE ENTRIES We received many hundreds of submissions from students aged between 16 and 18. The entries highlighted not only the quality but also the extraordinary diversity of art in colleges. The entries were shortlisted to 21 images which represent work from 20 sixth form colleges. THE EXHIBITION The art will be on display in the Upper Waiting Hall of the House of Commons from 17 - 20 March, following an official launch. AoC is delighted that the Speaker, Secretary of State for Education, and politicians of all parties are supporting this exhibition, making the occasion even more special for the students and teachers. Finally, the Chairman referred to Shawn Reed, who worked for ANSA and who had sadly suddenly passed away over the bank holiday weekend. Shawn’s funeral would be held on Tuesday, 21st June. All present stood for a minute’s silence as a mark of respect.
