Such vehicles are revolutionizing access to space by providing weekly, low-cost trips: this future is actually here, now , also thanks to a recent series of successful public events carried out by SpaceLand for both underwater aerospace training (the latest in September 2010, for the Italian Space Agency’s Moon exploration technology R&D projects in weightlessness) as well as for so-called Lunar-gravity, Mars-gravity and weightless research and edutainment flights (six training and flight campaigns implemented by SpaceLand, with experimental hardware, flying from the famous NASA Space Shuttle L.F. at Cape Canaveral). To help all the above mentioned categories of users take advantage of the new opportunities, SpaceLand has organized the 2nd Expo-Congress again in Sardinia, following on the success of last year’s events: more than a dozen corporations and government agencies, including the Vice President of the European Commission Antonio Tajani (in charge of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Space and Tourism), the President of the Italian Space Agency and the President of the Region of Sardiania, have endorsed the event slated from the 21st to the 23rd of October at Eccelsa Aviation (Olbia) near the new SpaceLand underwater aerospace training camp. The 3-day event, including bilateral meetings, networking cocktails and “open” flight demos, is held at the VIP terminal of the Olbia-Costa Smeralda airport: it also provides an interactive forum to learn about all the above opportunities and about the research and education personnel capabilities offered by the SpaceLand program and by other initiatives world-wide. A student competition, on site, will include several prizes, including the possibility, during the last day, to test-fly a high-tech “autogyro” for a low-altitude breathtaking ride over Costa Smeralda, autogyros being considered as one of the latest qualification exams for new SpaceLand flight candidates in 2011 (open to anybody, from 10 to 99 years of age) paving the way to fly research and educational Lunar-gravity parabolic flights at NASA within the SpaceLand science research crew, next year. Details will be provided also regarding technology and life science experiments on board and on practical facts regarding how to enter and live such “out-of-this-world” experiences including underwater training and boarding “open” parabolic and sub- orbital flights: as a matter of facts, in synergy with NASA, SpaceLand is wide-opening to anybody the opportunities to get involved as test operators or test subjects on “Moon-gravity”, “Mars-gravity” and “microgravity” flights, also for “space tourism” in training camps accessible to the public; such campaigns can be a source of new stimuli for S.T.E.M.-related (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) SMEs, R&D centers, academia & schools as well as for new business initiatives revitalizing local economies and involving touristic resorts and regional infrastructures, such as Sardinia ones. “The commercial spaceflight industry shares the enthusiasm displayed by all students, academia and scientific communities, met during the latest SpaceLand ministerial public outreach tours, for the great research and educational potential of the parabolic and sub-orbital flights” quoted Mission Commander Viberti to “La Repubblica” newspaper (February 2nd, 2010). SpaceLand has a long history in parabolic flight research and edutainment programs, including ground and underwater training activities both in Italy and in the USA. Viberti was himself the chief designer of the 1st International Space Station’s Columbus lab underwater model, now placed at the ESA Astronaut Center, and the Neutral Buoyancy Tank for the European Space Agency, now located in Torino; the Center of Excellence being consolidated by SpaceLand to satisfy ASI, science centers, SME and other user requirements will host a new series of public engagement projects in this new space exploration era. The added-values of linking “cultural & science tourism” to aerospace programs will also be an important focus, in order to strengthen the “space-awareness” in the European society about values and benefits of Space in terms of progress of knowledge as well as to accelerate the economic recovery through science and technology for higher quality of life for citizens, at any age. Exceptional flight opportunities will also be available on-site to the Congress participants, thanks to SpaceLand and Magni Gyro. BACKGROUND SUMMARY SpaceLand is the 1st non-gov aerospace agency providing ENGINEERING and OPERATIONAL GROUND & FLIGHT SERVICES for any experimental hardware or any flight candidate, including citizens from 11 to 93 years of age , implementing ZERO-GRAVITY, LUNAR-GRAVITY & MARS- GRAVITY Research, Educational and Edutainment Flights taking off from the NASA Space Shuttle L.F. and, from 2011, also at NASA J.S.C. (Johnson Space Center, Houston - Texas, U.S.A.). SpaceLand has so far brought almost one hundred people, at any age and with any educational background, to fly weightless together with scientists & engineers for cutting-edge life or material science experiments or technology hand-on qualification on flight in “Moon-G”. Letters of appreciation and/or endorsements have been sent to SpaceLand by the President of the Republic of Italy , the Vice-President of the European Commission, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs , the Italian Minister of Research, Education and University , NASA Directors, the Italian Office for Public Awareness of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet , the President of the Italian Space Agency and many others. In 2010, the Italian Space Agency has entrusted SpaceLand as responsible entity for Italy’s basic & advanced ground & underwater weightless flight training for parabolic flights and sub- orbital flight program coordinator for Lunar & Mars exploration projects.
