  • 115 the Position of Politics in the Metamorphosis of Persian Poetry
The position of politics in the metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature is the main subject of this research. In this study, politics is considered as a general term. Biographies and the history of literature each from their own view express the reasons for the growth and decline of Persian language and literature. This study aims to prove what is said so far about the causes of change and metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature is a mere cause but can be considered as one of the reasons for the metamorphosis of poetry style. The authors of this article believe that the political, social, religious, cultural, economic, historical, regional and environmental factors and other reasons have affected the metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature. The authors consider the results of the past review of Persian literature as a necessity to draw a future map and to encourage the scholars and thinkers for innovative, attractive, creative and compatible planning with the new conditions of the today world. Considering the cyberspace and social networks is another point in this study which emphasized the importance of applying these kinds of inclusive technologies in Persian language and literature promotion. I am following the early footsteps of comparative literature of Iran through the life of Fatemeh Sayyah (1902-1947), who is credited to be the founder of the discipline of Comparative literature in Iran, which started off as discipline with the introduction of a literary program for the first time at Tehran University in 1938. The very first academic comparative work with respect to Persian literature was done by an Indian scholar Umar Bin Mohammad Daudpota almost 11 years before its introduction in Iranian university curriculum, in 1927 at Cambridge University, with the title of ‘The effect of Arabic poetry on Persian poetry’. As a discipline, throughout its journey that comparative literature encountered in Iran as far as its development is concerned has had to overcome obstacles in its way. Many a time the program faced its closures and reopening. The process of literary interaction with French literature, its impact on Iranian literature and the outcome of this process, which I believe is more out of a protest than anything else, though it was leveraged to some extent by Pahlavi dynasty in a bid to protect its claims for monarchy.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Iran's Epic and America's Empire by Mahmoud Omidsalar Iran's Epic and America's Empire by Mahmoud Omidsalar. Source: Afshar Publishing. "Iran's Epic and America's Empire" considers the implications of Iran’s national epic, the Shahnameh for the present political tensions that mark Iran's relationship with the West. It offers an explanation of the poem as a national and a cultural icon. Santa Monica, CA -- April 17, 2012 -- The Shahnameh is Iran's national epic. It is a compendium of Iranian myths, legends, and history. Unlike other Indo-European epics, it is not about a war, like the Iliad , or an individual, like the Odyssey , Beowulf , or the Ramayana . The central character of the Shahnameh is Iran, which it glorifies both as subject and hero. Unlike other classical Indo-European epics, the Shahnameh is not in a dead language. It is intelligible to every speaker of Persian in Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. This book is addressed to Iranians who reside in the West. Following a brief survey of Iranian history from its beginning in the 7th century B.C. to Ferdowsi's time in the 11th century, Mahmoud Omidsalar provides a history of the poem and a biography of its author. "Mahmoud Omidsalar is a world authority on Ferdowsi's Shahnameh. Very few people anywhere in the world know the Persian epic inside out as well as he does. Omidsalar's Iran's Epic and America's Empire is a bold political manifesto written by a master literary scholar. His steely meditations come at a particularly troubling time when Ferdowsi's birthplace is ruled by chronic autocracy and threatened by military strike.

Ferdowsi's narrative about the murder of Daqiqi is such vague and unclear that has attracted researchers’ attention. Based on Ferdowsi’s opinion, initially, it seems the incentive of Daqiqi murder to be a dramatic process than being a predetermined approach. In another hand, Shahnameh points to the Daqiqi’s bad tempered character. In this regard, Daqiqi murder that is done by his bondservant might have got an interpersonal incentive. The main purpose of the paper is to study the incentive of Daqiqi Tusi murder in Shahnameh context while comparing it with other evidence like Daqiqi’s opposition to a political governing system and appearance of this opposition in his poems.

Ferdowsi's Shahnameh: An Attempt to Save Aryan Tradition through Diminishing the Concept of Filicide [PP: 27-38] Esmaeil Zohdi Department of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Vali-e-Asr University, Rafsanjan, Kerman, Iran Sohila Faghfori Department of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Vali-e-Asr University, Rafsanjan, Kerman, Iran Corresponding Author: Mohammad Hussein Oroskhan Department of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Vali-e-Asr University, Rafsanjan, Kerman, Iran ABSTRACT Ferdowsi's Shahnameh is filled with different numbers of filicides. Mostly in each of them, the older side is privileged over the younger one. Accordingly, the aim of this paper is to investigate the notion of conflict between these two sides specifically in the tragedy of Rostam and Esfandiar with respect to its reason. As it is evident, Ferdowsi devoted a great deal of effort to revive the Aryan tradition ruined by Arab invasion through writing Shahnameh. Therefore, in most of the old/new conflicts, he favored the older side so as to restore the glory of the past traditions. Moreover, Ferdowsi has tried to show the unjustifiable stand of new side against the reasonable stand of the older side. Indeed Ferdowsi's willingness toward filicides in Shahnameh is actually showing his willingness toward the older tradition of Iran which has been destroyed by Arab invasion. The board of trustees of the Foundation is grateful to the journal’s editor-in- chief, Professor Mohamad Tavakoli-Targhi, who over the past five years has ably met the challenges of publishing a Persian-language research journal outside Iran during a period when traditional publishing has been undergoing a serious crisis. Dr. Tavakoli has led the Iran Nameh team of staff and editorial advisors superbly and published many valuable and evocative articles while also introducing innovative design features to the publication. The board wishes to acknowledge the previous teams of exceptional scholars who dedicated their time, energy, and expertise to create, build, and sustain the journal over 30 years of challenging times. The Foundation for Iranian Studies (FIS) was one of the earliest—if not the first— manifestations of the response of Iranians in diaspora to sustain and promote the rich Iranian cultural heritage and the Persian literary tradition after the 1979 Iranian revolution. The foundation’s flagship publication, Iran Nameh, started in the fall of 1982 under the editorship of Professor Jalal Matini, who deserves high praise and gratitude for keeping the journal above the many partisan divisions in the Iranian community in diaspora. The first 26 issues of the journal, through volume VII, Number 2, prepared by him as editor and Professor Heshmat Moayyad as book review editor, focused mainly on history and culture, especially of the pre- Islamic era, to which a host of luminaries, including Ehsan Yarshater, Mohammad Jafar Mahjoub, Jalal Khaleqi Motlaq, and Zabihollah Safa, among others, contributed regularly.
