Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Miles Collier Collections Page 1 of 203 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Title: Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Creator: Ludvigsen, Karl E. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order.

    * 1:20 Lotus 88 * Bugatti T18 Kit * Maserati A6GCS * 1:24 Mk1 Escorts * 2015 LM Ferraris 04-2016 NEWS Spark diecast Late Season MP4-30s Spark were the pioneers of what we now refer to as resincast models and have certainly contributed to significant changes in the model market since they first arrived on the scene some fifteen or so years ago. The tooling for resin production allows for far smaller quantities than traditional diecast metal and so we see many subjects that may not otherwise be viable due to potential sales figures. The lower numbers do mean higher prices however and for some subjects with more mass appeal, die-casting can still be the effective way of making a model and Spark have recognised this and are adding a new series to their catalogue (see forthcoming supplement), with much lower pricing (£27.95) than the resin production and innovative packaging to help them stand out. We saw the first test samples at Nurnberg in February and they are now approaching release. Ebbro’s 1:20 plastic kit of the mid-season McLaren from 2015 (EBB20014) has proved very popular and many builders are now eagerly awaiting the early season car (EBB20013). There’s another to add to the wish list now as, in ad- dition to the livery charge, the McLaren had a significant nose redesign from Austria and this will be represented by another new kit for the Japanese GP (EBB20015). The photo above shows the test mouldings alongside the mid- season car. 1:43 resincast releases of the late season car are also due for both Alonso (EBB45328) and Button (EBB45329).

  • 1959 Cooper T51 F2-23-59 Coventry Climax FPF 2.5
1959 Cooper T51 F2-23-59 Coventry Climax FPF 2.5 F2-23-59 started life in 1959 as a works car for the Cooper Grand Prix team when they won the World Constructors Championship and lead driver Jack Brabham became the World Drivers Champion. F2-23-59 was fitted with a 4 cylinder Coventry-Climax FPF and raced by Bruce McLaren throughout the year finishing 3rd in the British GP at Silverstone and then taking his maiden Grand Prix victory in the US Grand Prix at Sebring. Originally fitted with a 2.2 litre Coventry Climax FPF engine, even in period 2.5 litre units were at a premium, McLaren was finally issued with a full-house 2.5 litre FPF for the French GP and in the next Grand Prix, the British at Aintree, used it to good effect to finish 3rd and set equal fastest lap with Stirling Moss. McLaren had originally had a taste of 2.5 litre FPF power in practice at Monaco where he described the difference between the 2.2 and the 2.5 as “Startling”. And then in a fitting end to the 1959 GP season in the final race, the US Grand Prix at Sebring, Bruce McLaren won his first GP in F2-26-59’s last works outing. For 1960 F2-23-59 was sold to Fred Tuck & Horace Gould. Tuck privately entered the car in numerous Grand Prix with various drivers taking the wheel including Roy Salvadori and Lucien Bianchi who scored an excellent privateer’s result of 6th at Monaco.

  • The HSRCA 1960S Racing Cars Groups M and O Newsletter No.18
The HSRCA 1960s Racing Cars Groups M and O Newsletter No.18 March 2012 Ed Holly (Registrar) [email protected] Welcome to the first M and O Racing newsletter for 2012. What a year it is shaping up to be, plenty of new cars debuting, or about to, and the interest is already building for the most important M & O event every 2 years with the running of the 4th Tasman Revival in November. In fact it looks like being a very busy end to the year with the with the 50th anniversary of the AGP at Caversham being celebrated with an Historic event at Barbagello. This weekend is also the traditional Sandown weekend and is only 2 weeks before the Tasman Revival itself. Post Tasman there is the New Zealand meetings at Hampton Downs over consecutive weekends with the theme being a tribute to Denny Hulme. Planning for the Tasman Revival is continuing apace. The Tasman Revival committee has employed the services of an event and marketing company, Lehman and Associates, and to produce the programme to a very high standard, a graphic arts and publishing company. On the next page you will see the flyer produced by the latter company. It is nice to see Spencer Martin in Paul Moxham’s Brabham Alfa BT23D selected as the subject, as Spencer is the only Australian Tasman driver to also run in the Tasman Revival. Overseas interest too is solid, and expectations are that we should have at least as many overseas cars as previously. Sir Jack Brabham named as one of Australia’s 100 Living Treasures.
