NR. INVENTAR: 3385 ARHIVELE NAŢIONALE SERVICIUL ARHIVE NAŢIONALE ISTORICE CENTRALE BIROUL ARHIVE CONTEMPORANE FOND INSTITUTUL DE STUDII ISTORICE ŞI SOCIAL-POLITICE FOTOTECA – Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej INVENTAR Anii: 1956 - 1958 1446 u.a. PREFAŢĂ Informaţii asupra instituţiei creatoare şi a fondului deţinut de Arhivele Naţionale pot fi regăsite în prefaţa inventarului nr. 3229 al fondului Institutul de Studii Istorice şi Social-Politice – Fototeca – Portrete. Una dintre cele mai interesante părţi structurale ale acestui fond, prin bogăţia şi diversitatea ei, o reprezintă Fototeca, împărţită tematic, în mai multe subdiviziuni. Subdiviziunea Fototecii I.S.I.S.P., intitulată Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, cuprinde fotografii ce ilustrează momente oficiale din viaţa şi activitatea lui Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, secretar general al CC al PCR (1945-1948), apoi prim-secretar al CC al PMR (1948-1965), primul dictator comunist al României (1948-1965). Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej s-a născut pe 8 noiembrie 1901 la Bârlad, fiind fiul lui Tănase şi al Anei Gheorghiu. După cele patru clase gimnaziale, s-a calificat în meseria de electrician. După terminarea şcolii a lucrat la o fabrică de cherestea, la o ţesătorie, iar apoi s-a angajat la meşteri dogari din Piatra Neamţ şi Moineşti. În perioada 1919-1921 a lucrat ca eletrician la Câmpina. Stagiul militar l-a făcut la Focşani, unde a obţinut gradul de sergent. Din anul 1930 a aderat la Partidul Comunist din Romania (P.Cd.R) iar după doi ani a fost ales secretar al Comitetului de Acţiune a Ceferiştilor. Acuzat de agitaţie comunistă, a fost transferat la Staţia de triaj din Dej. În februarie 1933 a participat la greva organizată în cadrul Atelierelor CFR Griviţa alături de Constantin Doncea, Chivu Stoica si Ilie Pintilie. Ca urmare, a fost arestat, trimis în judecată şi condamnat la 12 ani de muncă silnică. Pedeapsa a executat-o în penitenciarele Jilava, Văcăreşti, Craiova, Ocnele Mari, Aiud, Doftana, Caransebeş şi lagărul de la Târgu Jiu. În 1935, a fost ales membru al Comitetului Central al P.C.d.R. La începutul lunii august 1944, a evadat cu sprijinul patrioţilor români şi al viitorului patriarh Iustinian. La sfârşitul lunii august 1944, a luat parte la primele acţiuni ale comuniştilor care luptau pentru constituirea unui guvern al Frontului Naţional Democrat. A fost ministru al Comunicaţiilor în guvernele conduse de generalii Constantin Sănătescu şi Nicolae Rădescu (1944-1945). În cadrul guvernului comunist, condus de dr. Petru Groza, a avut acelaşi portofoliu, la care s-a adăugat şi cel al Lucrărilor Publice, al Economiei Naţionale (1945-1946), devenit al Industriei şi Comerţului (29 noiembrie 1946- 13 aprilie 1948). A fost membru al delegaţiei oficiale a României la Conferinţa de Pace de la Paris (1947). Odată cu instaurarea regimului comunist la putere, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej a deţinut funcţii importante în partid şi în stat, precum: prim-vicepreşedinte al Consiliului de Miniştri (13 aprilie 1948- 2 iunie 1952), preşedinte al Comisiei de Redresare Economică şi Stabilizare monetară (13 aprilie 1948- 2 iulie 1948), membru al Prezidiului Marii Adunări I Nationale (4 octombrie 1955-25 martie 1961), preşedinte al Consiliului de Miniştri (2 iunie 1952- 4 octombrie 1955). În cadrul Secretariatului C.C. al P.M.R. a coordonat activitatea Comisiei Controlului de Partid, Consiliului Central al Sindicatelor din R.P.R., Secţiilor Industrie Grea şi Agrară ale C.C. al P.M.R. şi Direcţia Treburilor a C.C. al P.M.R. A fost preşedinte al Consiliului de Stat (25 martie 1961 – 19 martie 1965), deputat în Adunarea Deputaţilor, ales în circumscripţia electorală Bucureşti (1946–1948); deputat în M.A.N., ales în circumscripţia electorală Griviţa Roşie, Bucureşti (1948–1965); preşedinte al Comisiei M.A.N. pentru elaborarea noii Constituţii a R.P.R. (25 mart. 1961–19 mart. 1965)1. În acest inventar sunt cuprinse fotografii cu: aniversarea a 35 de ani de la înfiinţarea Partidului Comunist din România ce a avut loc la Teatrul de Operă şi Balet al R.P.R2, participarea la deschiderea Expoziţiei R.P.R. pe drumul construirii socialismului care a avut loc în sala din Bulevardul Magheru nr. 213, vizitarea Uzinelor 23 August din Capitală de către membrii delegaţiei guvernamentale coreene, în frunte cu Kim Ir Sen4, spectacolul ansamblului artistic al Şcolii Kim Ir Sen din Târgovişte, ce a fost dat în cinstea membrilor delegaţiei guvernamentale coreene5, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, I. Broz Tito şi Iovanka Broz, în vizită la Rafinăria nr. 1 Ploieşti6, Adunarea populară a alegătorilor din Circumscripţia electorală Griviţa Roşie, ce a avut loc cu prilejul alegerilor de deputaţi pentru Marea Adunare Naţională7, prima sesiune a celei de-a treia legislaturi a Marii Adunări Naţionale, în cadrul căreia a fost votată Legea de organizare şi funcţionare a sfaturilor populare şi o serie de alte legi8, decorarea unor participanţi la răscoala din 19079, aspect de la tratativele dintre delegaţiile Partidului Muncitoresc Român şi Partidul Comunist Bulgar10, semnarea Tratatului de prietenie, colaborare şi asistenţă mutuală între R.P. Română şi U.R.S.S.11, adunarea festivă consacrată celei de-a 25-a aniversări a luptelor muncitorilor ceferişti şi petrolişti din februarie 1933 şi a zilei ceferiştilor12, aspect 1 Membrii CC al PCR 1945-1989. Polone în vizită la Rafinăria Teleajen15, solemnitatea înmânării diplomei de „Erou al Muncii Socialiste” şi a Medaliei de Aur „Secera şi Ciocanul” lui Chivu Stoica, cu prilejul împlinirii vârstei de 50 de ani16, parada militară şi demonstraţia oamenilor muncii din Capitală, în cinstea zilei de 23 August17, festivitatea decernării premiilor din cadrul primului Concurs Internaţional George Enescu18. În fotografii, alături de Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej apar numeroşi lideri politici ai României precum Alexandru Moghioroş, Iosif Chişinevschi, Chivu Stoica, Miron Constantinescu, Gheorghe Apostol, Emil Bodnăraş, C.I. Parhon, Nicolae Ceauşescu, Ştefan Voitec, Leontin Sălăjan, Dumitru Coliu, Constanţa Crăciun, Constantin Pârvulescu, Florian Dănălache. În Fototecă se regăsesc figurile unor personalităţi ale vieţii politice internaţionale care ne-au vizitat ţara, între care amintim pe Władysław Gomułka - primul secretar al C.C. al Partidului Muncitoresc Unit Polonez, Josef Cyrankievicz - preşedintele Consiliului de Miniştri al R.P. Polone, A.A. Epişev, ambasadorul Uniunii Sovietice la Bucureşti, Marian Spychalsky, general-colonel, membru al Biroului Politic al C.C. al P.M.U.P., ministrul Apărării Naţionale al R.P. Polone, Fr. Hexman, membru al Biroului Politic al P.C. din Austria, dr. Ivan Rohal Ilkiv, ambasadorul Republicii Cehoslovace în R.P.R., Antonin Novotny, preşedintele Republicii Cehoslovace Fotografiile sunt realizate prin tehnica alb-negru şi sunt ataşate unor fişe-suport întocmite de creatorul fondului. Acestea conţin informaţii necesare identificării imaginilor din fotografii. Informaţiile au fost completate sau corectate de angajaţii Arhivelor Naţionale, pe parcursul efectuării operaţiunilor arhivistice de ordonare şi inventariere.     Corpses, Dead Body Politics and Agency in Human Geography: Following the Corpse of Dr Petru Groza

    Corpses, dead body politics and agency in human geography: following the corpse of Dr Petru Groza This paper follows the mobilities of the dead body of Dr Petru Groza (1884-1958), a significant political figure in post-World War II socialist Romania, to explore the implications for human geography of engaging with the dead. Although there has been a considerable interest in ‘geographies of the body’ and ‘deathscapes’ human geography has had relatively little to say about dead bodies. The paper draws on literatures from death studies, memory studies, history, anthropology, law and dead body politics to develop an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the role of the corpse in society, and argues that human geography should do more to consider how dead bodies contribute to the formation of contemporary geographies. To illustrate these points the analysis first explores how the treatment of Groza’s corpse and the ‘deathwork’ associated with it is an example of ‘dead body politics’. Second, the analysis draws out the agency of the corpse and its role in a variety of ‘deathscapes’.     The Withdrawal of Soviet Troops from Romania, 1955-1958 Eugene Boia In the late 1940s and 1950s the Romanian Communist leaders grad- ually gained the Soviets’ trust as dependable partners in international com- munism and demonstrated their ability to control their country. The Soviet Union came to consider Romania a reliable friendly communist state, espe- cially following Yugoslavia’s formal expulsion from the Cominform in June 1948 and the relocation of its headquarters from Belgrade to Bucharest. In the summer of 1955, following the conclusion of the Austrian State Treaty and a relaxation in the East-West tensions, the Romanian communist lead- ership broached the issue of the removal of all Soviet troops stationed in Ro- mania since 1944. In Bucharest’s view these troops no longer were needed to secure the communication lines with Austria (which became independent as a neutral state and the foreign troops pulled out by fall of 1955). The Kremlin initially balked at the proposal, but the events of 1956 in Hungary demonstrated that Moscow could rely on Bucharest to maintain order and a communist system, issues of primary importance to the Soviet leadership. After a series of diplomatic exchanges, in July 1958 the Soviets withdrew their military forces. This paper, based on published documentary and secondary sources, will analyze the Soviet motives for the final military withdrawal and the extent of the Romanian effort toward that realization. It is bound by the Black Sea and Moldova to the east, Bulgaria to the south, Serbia & Montenegro and Hungary to the west as well as the Ukraine to the north and northeast. The Carpathian Mountains form the heart of the country and are divided into three ranges. (1.) The East Carpathians, (2.) the South Carpathians and (3.) the West Carpathians. There are rich arable plains in the south which include the Baragan Plains to the east and Oltenian Plains to the west. The principal rivers are the Danube, Tisza, Mures, Prut, Siret and Olt Rivers. In addition, around 3,500 glacial ponds, lakes and coastal lagoons are also found throughout the country. Major Cities (pop. est.); Bucharest 2,066,700, Constanta 349,000, Iasi 337,600, Timisoara 325,400, Galati 324,200, Brasov 324,100 (1993). Land Use; forested 29%, pastures 21%, agricultural-cultivated 43%, other 7% (1993). CLIMATE: Romania has a continental climate characterized by cold snowy winters and warm summers. In the Carpathian Mountains the summers are cooler and wetter. The prevailing winds are from the north to northeast and are hot and dry during summer while in winter they are cold and severe. Average annual precipitation is 637 mm (25 inches) while average temperature ranges in Bucharest are from -2 degrees Celsius (28 degrees Fahrenheit) in winter to 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit) in summer.

Comrade Leonte Rautu: Comrades, in a nutshell, the problem in question is the following: as you know, on 1 July a declaration of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party was issued in connection with the negotiations that are to take place, in which the composition of the PCC delegation, and the stand they had taken were announced. We have published the composition of the delegation, and a sentence in which the position of the Chinese was presented. Today the ”Pravda” newspaper published a declaration of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union; I propose to have it read now (the declaration is being read). Cde. Emil Bodnaras: What about the Chinese declaration of 1 July, to which this [Soviet] declaration refers? Cde. Leonte Rautu: We can read that declaration, too, to refresh the memory of it (the declaration of 1 July is being read). These are the two materials. In connection with this declaration we have published the fact that the “New China” News Agency transmitted a declaration of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party announcing the composition of the PCC delegation, as well as a sentence showing that the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party nurtures the hope that the talks will be held with a unanimity of views.
