Σο Arad και η Κατερίνη της Πιερίας δεν γνωρίζω αν συναντήθηκαν ιστορικά κατά το παρελθόν. Φάρη στις ευκαιρίες που μας δόθηκαν μέσα από το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα Comenius-Regio, υλοποιήθηκαν αλλεπάλληλες συναντήσεις εκπαιδευτικών και φορέων επτά Ιδρυμάτων, οι καρποί των οποίων στάθηκαν πολύ σημαντικοί. Ανταλλάχθηκαν απόψεις, συνάφθηκαν σχέσεις, Δρ. Ιωάννης Καζταρίδης κατακτήθηκαν φιλίες. Ση θέση της άγνοιαςπήρεη γνώση, η συναδέλφωση, οι Dr. Ioannis Kaztaridis νέες εμπειρίες. Μας επέτρεψε να δούμε τη γλωσσική, γεωγραφική, πολιτισμική, πολιτιστική διαφορετικότητα ως κάτι σπουδαίο και Διευθυντής Δευτεροβάθμιας συναρπαστικό. Υιλοδοξούμε να καταστήσουμε αυτή τη γνωριμία ως βάση, ως Εκπαίδευσης Πιερίας εφαλτήριο για περαιτέρω συνεργασία, αλληλοβοήθεια, αλληλοϋποστήριξη Director de Educație και αλληλεγγύη. Stimate vizitator - călător, Avem marea plăcere să prefațăm Ghidul pentru călătorii trilingv pe care îl țineți în mână și care conține informații utile despre muntele nostru Olimp și despre râul Mureș situat în zona Aradului, România. Nu știu dacă Aradul și Katerini-Pieria s-au întâlnit din punct de vedere istoric în trecut. Mulțumită oportunităților oferite nouă de programul european Comenius Regio, s-au realizat întâlniri succesive a șapte instituții de învățământ și autorități publice provenind din ambele regiuni, rezultatele acestora fiind foarte importante. Au fost schimbate puncte de vedre, s-au încheiat relații de parteneriate, s-au câștigat prietenii. Ignoranța s-a transformat în cunoștiințe, fraternitate, și noi experiențe. Acest lucru ne-a permis să înțelegem diversitatea lingvistică, geografică și culturală ca ceva măreț și emoționant. Sperăm să transformăm aceste întâlniri ca o bază, o rampă de lansare pentru o cooperare viitoare, ajutor reciproc și solidaritate. Nădăjduim că grupurile educaționale din ambele regiuni Katerini și Arad să devină pionierii și precursorii unor relații mai apropiate între poporul român și cel grec. Dear visitor - traveller, With great pleasure we preface the Trilingual Travel Guide that you hold in your hands and which contains useful information about our mythical mountain Olympus and the Mures river located in the area of Arad, Romania. I do not know if Arad and Katerini-Pieria met historically in the past. Thanks to the opportunities given to us through the European Programme Comenius-Regio, successive meetings of seven educational institutions and bodies coming from the above regions have been realized, the fruits of which have been very important. Views were exchanged, relationships were concluded, friendships were conquered. Ignorance has been replaced by knowledge, brotherhood of peoples, new experiences. It allowed us to see the linguistic, geographical, cultural diversity as something great and exciting. We aspire to make this acquaintance as the basis, as a springboard for further cooperation, mutual help, mutual support and solidarity. We aspire that educational communities of both regions, Katerini and Arad, stand the pioneers and forerunners of closer relations between the Greek and the Romanian people. Βρίσκεται στα σύνορα Μακεδονίας-Θεσσαλίας και ειδικότερα στα όρια των Νομών Πιερίας και Λάρισας. Ο Μύτικας, η ψηλότερη κορυφή του, απέχει σε ευθεία απόσταση 263 χιλιόμετρα από την Αθήνα και 78 χιλιόμετρα από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, ενώ από τις ακτές της Πιερίας απέχει 18 και από την Κατερίνη 24 χιλιόμετρα. Muntele Olimp este cel mai înalt munte din Grecia, cunoscut în întreaga lume datorită contextului său mitologic, deoarece vârful său (2918 m) a fost locuit de cei doisprezece zei după religia vechilor greci. Muntele Olimp este localizat la graniţele dintre Macedonia şi Thessaly şi în special la marginile judeţelor Pieria şi Larissa. Mytikas, cel mai înalt vârf este localizat la o distanţă în linie dreptă de 263 de km de Atena şi 78 de km de Salonic în timp ce distanţa până la Pieria este de 18 km şi de respectiv 24 de km până la Katerini Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece, known worldwide mainly for the mythological context, as on top of it (2918 m.) inhabited the Twelve "Olympian" Gods in accordance with the religion of the ancient Greeks. Olympus is located in Macedonia and Thessaly borders and especially on the boundaries of the prefectures of Pieria and Larissa. In this study, scale insect (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) specimens extracted from Hun- garian Natural History Museum soil samples (2970 samples in total), all of which were collected using soil and litter sampling devices, and extracted by Berlese funnel, were examined. A significant percentage of MSW originates from household activities. In this study we calculate the costs of setting up and running a zero-waste mortar-producing (ZWMP) process utilizing MSW in Northern Greece. The process is based on a thermal co-processing of properly dried and processed MSW with raw materials (limestone, clay materials, silicates and iron oxides) needed for the production of clinker and consequently of mortar in accordance with the Greek Patent 1003333, which has been proven to be an environmentally friendly process. According to our estimations, the amount of MSW generated in Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace regions, which is conservatively estimated at 1,270,000 t/y for the year 2020 if recycling schemes in Greece are not greatly ameliorated, may sustain six ZWMP plants while offering considerable environmental benefits. This work can be applied to many cities and areas, especially when their population generates MSW at the level of 200,000 t/y, hence requiring one ZWMP plant for processing.

Hydraulics and Land Reclamation, 541 24 Thessaloniki, Greece 1 [email protected], 2 [email protected], 3 [email protected] Abstract: Precipitation has been widely considered as a starting point towards the apprehension of climate changes courses, constituting one of the most substantial components of the hydrologic cycle. The purpose of this work is to investigate the temporal variability of precipitation in order to contribute to a better interpretation of the hydrological status of the study area located in Northern Greece within the prefecture of Pieria. The Aison River basin drains the water of its central part, forming the greatest receiver of surface water. The precipitation data refer to the period 1974-2007. The methodology adapts various statistical approaches in order to detect possible precipitation changes in annual, monthly and seasonal basis, including both tests for monotonic trend (Mann-Kendall test, Sequential version of the Mann- Kendall test, Sen’s estimator of slope) and a test for step change (the distribution-free CUSUM test). The application of this methodological framework resulted in the identification of a few trends, occurred mainly at smaller than annual time scales. An overall downward trend, even though no statistically significant, has derived for the stations located at lower altitudes, within the agricultural zone of Pieria. Regional (Aison River basin) total precipitation series has also displayed trends similar to the ones observed in the majority of stations.

Bibliography 273 Abstract The nation-state is now the dominant form of sovereign statehood, however, a century and a half ago the political map of Europe comprised only a handful of sovereign states, very few of them nations in the modern sense. Balkan historiography often tends to minimize the complexity of nation-building, either by referring to the national community as to a monolithic and homogenous unit, or simply by neglecting different social groups whose consciousness varied depending on region, gender and generation. Further, Bulgarian and Serbian historiography pay far more attention to the problem of "how" and "why" certain events have happened than to the emergence of national consciousness of the Balkan peoples as a complex and durable process of mental evolution. This dissertation on the concept of nationality in which most Bulgarians and Serbs were educated and socialized examines how the modern idea of nationhood was disseminated among the ordinary people and it presents the complicated process of national indoctrination carried out by various state institutions.

    Neolithic society in Northern Greece: the evidence of ground stone artefacts Volume I Christina Tsoraki Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Archaeology, University of Sheffield October 2008 to (j3en ABSTRACT Analysis of ground stone technology from the Neolithic of Greece rarely goes beyond incomplete descriptive accounts to focus on the activities performed with these tools and the contexts of their use. Ground stone products are seen as mundane static objects devoid of meaning and lacking significance. The aim of this thesis is to move away from incomplete accounts of ground stone technology and static typologies. Drawing upon the concepts of the chaine operatoire and 'object biographies' this thesis investigates ground stone technology as a social practice focusing on the life-cycle of artefacts from raw material selection to final deposition. The underlying premise is that a contextual approach can contribute to understanding the ways in which the production, consumption and discard of ground stone artefacts were structured within different forms and scales of social practice and the manner in which these differences articulated different meanings and social understandings. The aims of the thesis were materialised through the study of the rich ground stone assemblage from the LN settlement of Makriyalos, Greece. The analysis of the chaine operatoire of the Makriyalos ground stone assemblage revealed diverse technological choices expressed throughout the cycle of production and use. Established traditions existed according to which specific materials were considered to be appropriate for the production of different objects. Furthermore, detailed analysis suggests that the resulting objects were far from mundane artefacts but were instead active media for expressing choices informed by cultural understandings of appropriateness.

For this reason, the use of questionnaires takes place which aims to realizing if and to what extend this form of tourism comprises a comparative and competitive advantage for the prefecture of Pieria. The research method of this paper is the qualitative research and more specifically the use of questionnaires with 13 questions in total. The scope was to research whether the prefecture of Pieria is a religious-pilgrimage destination. The sample is comprised of 102 participants, being Greek residents originating from other Greek counties, the European Union, and Third World Countries. The requirement was for the participant to have visited the prefecture of Pieria. The independency test (x2) was used for checking the interconnections between the different factors, while at the same time an allocation of frequencies was conducted based on the study and presentation of frequency as much as relevant frequency. Due to the fact that, no other similar former researches have been conducted regarding religious tourism in Pieria, this research will be able to give some useful conclusions.
