CRUISE TOURISM IN NORWAY 2019 CRUISE SURVEY – SUMMER 2019 INNOVATION NORWAY © Øyvind Heen - Visitnorway.com Introduction 3 Summary of findings 6 TOPIC 1: What is the economic impact of cruise tourism in 7 Norway? TOPIC 2: How do the Norwegian ports differ from each other? 24 TOPIC 3: Fact check about cruise tourists 31 Basic data, methodology and definitions of terms 46 © CYH / Visitnorway.com Brief overview of methodology and basic data The most comprehensive cruise survey The cruise survey' s basic data in Norway ever 14 ports The survey is based on interviews with 3 232 cruise tourists A total of 3 232 interviews were conducted with cruise passengers in 14 ports 80 cruise ships along the entire Norwegian coast – from Kristiansand in the south to North 175 cruise calls Cape in the north. Collection of the data took place from 21 May to 31 September 2019. The planning of the survey took into account many different 3 232 interviews factors: from the size of ships, number of calls and nationality of the cruise tourists, to the geographical location of the port, type of port and cruise line, and the assumed segment of the ship/cruise line. All of the interviews were conducted as a personal interview using tablets. Data collection took place over 75 interview days with 80 cruise ships on 175 cruise calls. The interviews were conducted with cruise passengers who were on their Ports Calls Interviews way back to the ships after a visit on shore. Bergen 20 387 Flåm 9 203 The survey would not have been possible without the assistance of 36 different Geiranger 13 244 ports, which contributed information about the port of call, and statistics from Hammerfest 4 52 the Norwegian Coastal Administration on the distribution of nationalities in 2018 Kristiansand 8 134 and actual calls in 2019. -

Water-Thermal Energy Production System: a Case Study from Norway
sustainability Article Water-Thermal Energy Production System: A Case Study from Norway Johannes Idsø 1,∗,† ID and Torbjørn Årethun 1,† Department of Social Sciences, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, 5063 Bergen, Norway; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +47-57-67-6304 † These authors contributed equally to this work. Received: 18 August 2017; Accepted: 13 September 2017; Published: 19 September 2017 Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe a new way of producing renewable energy based on fjords as a water heater. We will call this system the Water-thermal Energy Production System (WEPS), because the basic idea is to extract heating and cooling energy from water. Although a prototype of WEPS has existed in Norway for more than ten years, a WEPS currently in operation has not been financially analyzed in the literature. Coastal parts of Norway have a potential of 5 TWh of profitable WEPS-facilities, due to convenient access to fjords containing water with stable all-season temperatures of about 4–12 ◦C when the depth of the water is about 50 m. This stability of the water temperature makes it possible to extract energy from the fjord in a very efficient way. The potential for economically-profitable WEPS in other parts of the world has not been estimated. In order to answer such a question, more research is required. We have conducted a case study of a WEPS located in the Norwegian municipality of Eid. This is the first full-scale Norwegian WEPS, and it has been operating since 2006. -

Information on present land uplift, seismicity, rock stress and postglacial faults is compiled in a 1: 3 million map of Norway and adjacent areas. There is good evidence for a conjugate set of normal faults perpendicular to the extensive system of NE-SW trending reverse faults in north- ern Fennoscandia. The Nordmannvikdalen fault in northern Troms and the Stuoragurra Fault in western Finnmark constitute the Norwegian part of this fault province. Nine other faults occur in northern Finland and northern Swe- den.
