Getxo has a rich historical heritage. The Bizkaia Bridge (declared a human heritage site by UNESCO in 2006) was built at around the same time as the Eiffel Tower, and in a similar style. It is the world’s oldest .

The old port is a charming area where gangs gather for a drink and a snack.

A stroll past the great mansions along the waterfront, lined with numerous mansions and palazzos in a variety of architectural styles, will take you back to the golden age of Getxo.

Its historical links with the sea make it a top location for watersports, with numerous competitions and sailing races throughout the year.

Surfers can also enjoy great waves of the bay of against the magnificent backdrop of the cliffs. Getxo is also a great place for cycling and skateboarding, with its many cycle paths and skate parks. Lovers of the open air can also enjoy diving and horse riding in the area.
