  • Chew Mei Fun, the Right Candidate for Kajang State By-Election - BN Leaders Bernama 21 Feb 2014
Chew Mei Fun, The Right Candidate For Kajang State By-Election - BN Leaders Bernama 21 Feb 2014 KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders unanimously supported the selection of MCA Vice-President Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun as the right candidate for the upcoming Kajang state by-election. People's Progressive Party (PPP) President, Datuk M.Kayveas described Chew, 50, as the suitable candidate due to her vast experience and capabilities. "She knows how to tackle the voters very well as she's been in the Federal government before. We have full faith in Chew as the right candidate for Kajang," he told reporters after the candidacy was announced by BN Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Kuala Lumpur, Friday. Penang-born Chew worked as a journalist, a teacher and held various positions in the advertising and creative industry before venturing into politics in 1991. Her first federal government job was confidential secretary to the then Deputy Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister, Teng Gaik Kwan, after which she was elected as Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara from 1999 to 2008. Later, she was Parliamentary Secretary of the Women, Family and Social Development Ministry from 2004 to 2008 and in 2009 promoted to Deputy Women, Family and Social Development Minister after being appointed as a senator. She lost the Petaling Jaya Utara Parliamentary seat after two terms to DAP's Tony Pua during the political tsunami in the 2008 General Election. MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the selection of Chew was a great honour for the party.

  • Mei Fun's Selection a Yardstick to Gauge People's Acceptance for MCA - DPM Bernama 23Feb 2014
Mei Fun's Selection A Yardstick To Gauge People's Acceptance For MCA - DPM Bernama 23Feb 2014 PAGOH, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The selection of MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun as the candidate for the Kajang state by-election can be used as a yardstick to gauge the people's acceptance of MCA's new party leadership. Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) Deputy chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, as such, the opportunity to contest in the Kajang by-election should not be wasted even though certain quarters suggested that the BN should not contest. "If this opportunity is not taken, then it is difficult to gauge the extend of acceptance by the Chinese community or the people towards the new MCA leadership," he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) programme at the Pagoh parliamentary constituency here today. The Deputy Prime Minister said : "Whatever the decision, it will become an indication of where they (MCA) stand, the remedial measures that can be taken and the basic struggles that they want to fight for the Chinese community. Probably it can be delivered at a by-election such as this one," he said. Muhyiddin said Chew was a suitable candidate because she was not only experienced in holding a post in the government but also a person with principles as well as having a good character. Muhyiddin said, in this by-election, the new MCA leadership was given the opportunity to prove to the voters that they were ready to help the Chinese community.

  • Only During Polls Does BN Sing the Unity Song Malaysiakini.Com Mar 18, 2014
Only during polls does BN sing the unity song MalaysiaKini.com Mar 18, 2014 YOURSAY ‘Citizens in the know are not fooled by this approach.’ BN goes muhibbah in bid to draw Chinese votes Damntlwbn: Muhibbah only during an election. If Kajang were a Malay majority, would you see muhibbah? BN will scream "Apa lagi Cina mahu?" Don't play the race card. People always say politicians are dirty, but I don't think anyone is as despicable as BN politicians. Righteous: I have a sure-win formula for MCA candidate Chew Mei Fun with an astronomical majority. Ask PM Najib Razak to arrest Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and return RM250 million loaned to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC). Arrest Ibrahim Ali (Perkasa) and Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) leaders for all the seditious comments, fire all those spinners involved in the disappearance of MH370, haul up the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief, the attorney-general (AG) and inspector- general of police (IGP), and lastly release opposition leaders Anwar Ibrahim and Karpal Singh. Then resign as PM and from Umno to join Pakatan Rakyat. Wasalaam. CiViC: Only during elections do we see BN singing the unity song. At other times it's all about Malay supremacy with MCA, MIC and Gerakan wagging their tails quietly. And they obviously take the rakyat for fools, thinking they can actually pull this off, while on the other hand they accuse Pakatan of being racists. Look who's talking. Relevancy: It looks like this political fools are fearful of the wrath of the people by the way they are spewing messages of fear of what will happen to them rather than what they can do for the people.

UTILISATION OF DAP LEADERS‘ BLOGS AND DAP‘S OFFICIAL WEBSITE IN CREATING POLITICAL AWARENESS YAP SING YEONG MASTER OF COMMUNICATION FACULTY OF CREATIVE INDUSTRIES UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN APRIL 2013 ABSTRACT UTILISATION OF DAP LEADERS’ BLOGS AND DAP’S OFFICIAL WEBSITE IN CREATING POLITICAL AWARENESS Yap Sing Yeong Political parties have constantly found strategies and tactics to affect voters and create political awareness. This is evident during election campaigns. The study questions and identifies the different strategies that the DAP‘s (Democratic Action Party) leaders used in their blogs during the 2008 election campaign period, and investigates the different strategies that the DAP used in its party‘s website during the 2008 election campaign period. Data was collected using content analysis, thematic content analysis, and in-depth interviews research methods. Findings revealed through the analysis of the DAP leaders‘ blogs, DAP‘s website, and interviews with DAP leaders that DAP leaders did not fully utilise their blogs. In other words, new media was not an effective means for DAP in creating political awareness during the last general election. Findings also revealed that the traditional ways of campaigning, for instances, door-to-door visits and public talk, were still the main choices in the rural area where the Internet access was still not available. It was also revealed that lesser number of politicians blogged after the 2008 general election. It cannot be denied that social media may overtake blogs in creating political awareness. ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS In completing this research, the researcher is most grateful to Miss Sharon Wilson, Dr. M. Jaganathan and Miss Pauline Leong for their constructive suggestions, valuable comments, and supervision.

  • MCA No Match for Ram in Chinese-Majority Seat Malaysiakini.Com May 12, 2014
MCA no match for Ram in Chinese-majority seat MalaysiaKini.com May 12, 2014 YOURSAY 'Ong Tee Keat, even most winnable candidate in MCA will lose in Bukit Gelugor’ Tee Keat: Is MCA bereft of winnable candidates? Dont Just Talk: After MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun lost big in the Kajang by-election, the party has totally lost its confidence in nominating a candidate for the Bukit Gelugor seat, giving such a silly excuse as focusing on the hudud issue. Who are you trying to fool, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, the hudud issue is not something new and former MCA president Chua Soi Lek was right when he labeled Liow as a weak leader. MCA has a pool of strong leaders who are good at bragging in front of the news media especially MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon. Let him stand against Ramkapal Singh of DAP to test his popularity amongst the Chinese voters. Never in the history of Malaysian politics did we dream that BN under Umno Baru would give a walkover to Pakatan. Surely the tides of change and the cry for ‘Ubah’ is near. Malaysia Truly Asia: Former MCA president Ong Tee Keat has been knocked out twice by his members and party. Now from the outside he can talk big, but he knows the score just like everyone here. The late Karpal Singh was very well liked, Penang belongs to the 'Tokong', and Karpal’s son is a shoo-in to win. MCA has taken the wise move of not contesting and living to fight another day.

  • If Zahid Can Be Minister, Kak Wan Can Surely Be PM Malaysiakini.Com Mar 23, 2014
If Zahid can be minister, Kak Wan can surely be PM MalaysiaKini.com Mar 23, 2014 YOURSAY 'Kak Wan has got vision - Zahid, what have you got?' 'Pakatan, don't dream about first woman PM' Fair Play: Actually Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's response has revealed the following. First the idea is not so far-fetched as it might be - otherwise why has he even bothered to respond with such a negative comment? Second, for the untold injustice heaped on PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and the very possibility of imprisonment for the next five years, PKR Kajang candidate Wan Azizah Wan Ismail might the beacon of light and the catalyst to motivate the rakyat for real change. And she is definitely qualified in every sense of the word. And finally, the powers-that-be should be very worried about the fallout of the unfortunate Flight MH370 incident that had enabled the world community to have a harsher look at the way Umno runs the country, from politics to accountability to the way they act against all those whom they perceive are a threat to their continued political hegemony. 1Malay-sia-sia: If an idiotic moron like you can be a minister, surely a woman has better chances to be the PM, right? Maybe even a Chinese woman. Fn: Zahid. Wan Azizah is more capable than you. Peace&Justice : Yes, I would vote for Wan Azizah as the future and very first lady PM. Heavenly King: Zahid, that is the dream and aspiration of more than 51 percent of the voters.
