Background of the Institution Since its establishment in 1928 by founder Dr. Nicanor Reyes, Sr., FEU has been recognized as one of the leading universities in the . The first Accountancy and Business school for , the university has, through the years, expanded its course offerings to the Arts and Sciences, Architecture and Fine Arts, Education, Engineering and Computer Studies (FEU East Asia ), Graduate Studies, Law, and Medicine (FEU-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation).

True to its mission of producing graduates who have contributed to the advancement of the country, FEU is proud of its alumni have been successful key government officials, influential accountants and businessmen, famous media personalities, innovative education administrators and faculty, expert physicians and nursing leaders, decorated national and professional athletes, cutting edge architects, artists, and engineers.

1. Institutional Mission/Vision/Goal/s on Internationalization of Higher Education (if any) a. Pursue academic excellence by sharing and learning from the expertise, experiences, and best practices of people and professionals from the different parts of the globe. b. Expose both students and faculty members to the understanding of other cultures, communities, and languages to foster harmonious relationships in the pursuit of mutual and consequently global advancement. c. Expose students to the dimension of multicultural integration and adaptation while obtaining skills necessary for work-life. d. Be a part of creating inventive resolutions to challenges, build worldwide networks, and be emissaries for FEU and the Philippines. e. Commit to building relationships that create resilient academic communities, independent societies, and a world where countries are prepared to work together to solve issues that concern the majority. f. Profile of faculty involved in Internationalization activities of the institution Internationalization activities are open to enrolled students and permanent, full time and part time faculty Members and Academic Managers. 3. Function of Office-in-Charge of Internationalization in your institution  Over all in charge of all international relations and student mobility activities of the Institution.  Responsible for policy-making, initiating, implementing, monitoring, evaluating , revising, and recommending changes/enhancement on/of all internationalization policies and activities.  Official representative of the institution to its international partners and international organizations. 4. Existing institutional policies related to Internationalization  All internationalization initiatives should be anchored on the mission/vision and aspiration statement of the institution.  These have to be recommended by the Deans and deliberated and approved by the Academic Council. 5. Different programs/practices/activities/projects of your institution on internationalization

The institution or its programs may engage in any or several of the following types of collaboration: 1. Research The purpose of which is to foster research collaboration on areas of common interest between faculty members of the Far Eastern University and its partner university. Faculty members with mutual research interests will be encouraged to form research partnerships and to conduct joint research projects and joint publications.

2. Short Term Student and Faculty Member Exchange Program The idea of a short term exchange is an intensive two-week program that will expose both students and faculty members to the understanding of other cultures, communities, and languages.

Another area of short term faculty exchange is where participating faculty members may conduct a series of lecture on their field of specialization in the host university.

3. Long Term Student Exchange Program The idea of a long term Student exchange program is for students to study courses common to both the home & host university for a semester. The units earned upon successfully completing a semester will be recognized by the home university. The long term student exchange program aims to enrich student learning and life experiences by actually studying in the host country while ensuring continuity in earning units prescribed in the curriculum of the home university.

4. Immersion Program The purpose of this program is learning and sharing best practices between FEU and its partners. Initially intended for FEU Academic Managers, this 4-week program will include observation of the partner university’s day to day activities in the areas of governance & management, strategies in teaching & learning, and use of learning resources, among others. This will also involve formal and informal dialogue with the stakeholders of the partner university.

5. Visiting Professor Program A Visiting Professor is a distinguished Faculty Member from a local or foreign institution, who is expected to teach, lecture, and share expertise on a topic the visitor is valued for the duration of residency at the host institution.

6. Internship Program/On the Job Training FEU to send students for supervised on the job training to gain practical experience in a specific area of study in the host institution or its partners for a specified number of hours. Aside from obtaining skills necessary for work, the program will expose the students to the dimension of multicultural integration and adaptation. Visiting Faculty

Cheng Shiu University (CSU) April 30, 2015 Research collaboration with one CSU Faculty Member and 3 FEU Faculty Members entitled “The Assessment on Business Courses Offed by Selected Universities in the Philippines: Basis for Continuous Quality Improvement to Learning. The full paper was submitted to CSU for a comparative study in Taiwan.

Kasetsart University March 28-29, 2013 I-KUSTAR The International Kasetsart University Science and Technology Annual Research Symposium with the theme Science Frontier towards ASEAN held at Fac ulty of Science, Kasetsart, Thailand where 3 FEU Faculty Members presented their papers in the said symposium

Taylor’s University  July 10-12, 2012 Joint Seminar and Research Forum entitled “An Integrated Proteomic, Genomic and Metabolic Approach in Host-Pathogen Research” held at FEU Auditorium

 June 2014 “Biochemical and Chemical Activities of Different Mangrove Species in the Philippines was approved and granted on with a budget of Php 883,788.80. Antimicrobial Screening of 32 mangrove species. 50% accomplished AQS and 50% on-going lab analysis/screening

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universitas Bung Hatta  Annual International Conference on Urban Studies and SIMPI (Sustainability Initiatives: Case Studies in Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia ) hosted by FEU, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and Universitas Bung Hatta. First SIMPI was held in Malaysia in 2015 where selected best papers from the conference were published in the special issue of Jurnal Teknologi, a Scopus indexed journal. The second SIMPI will be held in FEU on May 4&5, 2016

 March 2014 Research collaboration between UTM and FEU entitled “Study on the Motivating Factors Influencing Women Entry Into Entrepreneurship in the Philippines.” The full paper was submitted to UTM in May 2015 for a Comparative study in Malaysia. 7. Other external relations and international networks Membership in the following international organizations/networks: Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), South East Asia Sustainability Network (SEASN)., University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific, International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

FEU is also a partner school for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Courses in Philippines of the London Teacher Training College 8. Strengths and weaknesses of your institution in internationalization Strength: a. The office’s/unit’s heads are clear on the directions of the office and its goal for the FEU Community in terms of internationalization initiatives. b. With the creation of a unit dedicated to International Relations and Student Mobility, FEU has made its presence felt by active participation in internationalization initiatives by the Commission on Higher Education. Weakness a. Barely a year old; would still have to establish the need for an independent office to the FEU Management. 9. Impact of internationalization activities on your institution The internationalization activities have exposed both students and faculty members to the dynamics of multi-cultural learning. The activities have broadened the knowledge, skills, and perspectives of the participants and consequently of the entire FEU Community as they share all that they have gained through these initiatives. The activities have led to more scholarly collaboration and outputs between FEU and its partners. 10. Future plans of your institution to enhance internationalization To ensure active engagements with partners with MOU/MOA that will benefit the entire FEU Community through the types of collaborations identified by FEU’s International Relations unit To enter into partnerships that will contribute to the achievement of the institution’s mission-vision and aspiration statement. To take active participation in undertakings that will promote internationalization in the academe in national and international levels.
