Forest Park Library & Archives-Capital Area District Libraries FOREWORD

Different doors lead to different things, but these familiar doors lead to our education and our

future. The years spent behind these doors will prove to be the most enriching ones of our lives.

Lessons taught here are important, but sportsmanship, humility, and respect are also acquired.

The purpose of a good yearbook is to serve as a guide for the past school year. As you leaf

through this edition of the PANTHER, we hope that many memories will be revived.

Forest Park Library & Archives-Capital Area District Libraries SUPERINTENDENT

My sincere congratulations to the members of the 1967 graduating class. It is our hope and ex pectation that each member will find the years spent at Stockbridge High School well worth the effort involved and that each one will find him~elf well fortified to meet the problems and chal lenges bound to face him in the future. May you be able to be of great service to your community and to your fellowman.

With Best Regards, ~.(i~ Jesse Batchelor Su pt. of Schools

Forest Park Library & Archives-Capital Area District Libraries fl PRINCIPALS

Once again the time has come to address a final message to a graduating class of Stock bridge High School. The years go by so quick ly and so to the class of "1967", congratula tions on your past achievements. Godspeed and best wishes for a successful and happy fu ture. Richard Howlett

MR. HOWLETT

Congratulations Seniors '67. Best Wishes on your graduation and for all your future years. In my contact with the Senior Class this year it is my feeling that whatever your life endeavors may be you will accomplish them with great success. May success continue to be your goal. Robert Boyd

The seven men elected to the board of education must reflect the educational thought of the school community. These men must spend many hours at regular and special meet ings or at conferences. They must keep themselves informed on many topics, such as cur riculum developments, the new federal programs of Head start, Title I of E.S.E.A., fi nance, and many others. The over-hauling of written policies and labor negotiations take up a great deal of time. They would like to have more time to discuss the aims of educa tion and time to develop a better program to meet the educational needs of the day. Other obligations does not give them this opportunity.

8 Forest Park Library & Archives-Capital Area District Libraries SECRET ARIES

Students in study hall STOP talking to their neighbor so they can hear the morn ing announcements given by Mrs. Grace Collins, Mr. Howlett's secretary. In addi tion to duties performed for her boss, Mrs. Collins keeps student's records, marks re port cards, and does various other chores that need to be done. Mrs. Collins is an enthusiastic fan at school games. She is an asset to the spirit of our school.

MRS. GRACE COLLINS

Everyone must YIELD to the welcom ing smile of Mrs. Thelma Frinkle, Mr. Batchelor's secretary. Among her many tasks is marking report cards, selling_ books, making copies of material for the faculty, and answering the telephone. During her years here she has become a friend of many due to her sense of humor and the good work she does.

MRS. THELMA FRINKLE

Some people feel that quantity is more important than quality, but a clerical worker must SLOW DOWN in order to attain accuracy. We are glad to welcome Mrs. Polly Dancer here as bookkeeper this year. She handles all of the accounts for the school system. Her personality and efficient work are received with pleasure from those who work with her.

Through these four teachers we students at Stockbridge High School are encouraged and RALPH HERRON guided toward goals of individual success and complacency, By their efforts we initiate new faith when problems confront us. They help us to plan our future and arrive at new aspects of learning. Even though each morning awaits with more work and greater efforts, the doors of the counseling offices are always open to all students. Their busy day consists of testing, teaching, coaching, assisting confused seniors, I directing plays and advising the making of the = yearbook. All of this leaves little free time to these teachers.

A lovely evening provided the background for a perfect Homecoming night. The highlight of the eve's enter tainment came when Patty Hardt, escorted by Marty Lindberg, was crowned by Miss Bonnie Teachout, last year's queen. Standing by her side was the court: Beverly May and Bob Zick, Linda Stoffer and Fred Grosshans, Lisa Price with Dan Holloway, and Mary Ann Caudill escort ed by Don Howard. Following the game, every one danced until midnight at the annual Homecoming dance.

24 Forest Park Library & Archives-Capital Area District Libraries Cheaper by the Dozen is based on a novel of the same name which was published in 1948. It was writ ten by a brother and sister about the family of twelve children. One evening they reminisced about the antics they went through while growing up under the firm hand of an anxious but loving father. The story which they put togeth er met with much success as a novel. It was soon produced as a movie and later as a broadway play which enjoyed a long and suc cessful run.

It's just shocking!

The Lord made Adam, The Lord made Eve, Right here in Fort Knox, there's where all the gold is buried. He made them both a little bit naive.

"Finian's Rainbow" spins a fantastic story on two themes: the touching hope of an elderly Irishman that the crock of gold he has stolen from the leprechauns will multiply in the fertile soil adjacent to Fort Knox (with the government's reserve as an example) and the fight of an engaging group of sharecroppers to pre serve their land against the encroachments of a dema gogue from the State of Missitucky named Billboard Raw kins. · The sharp wit of the lyrics is matched by the gay tunefulness and sweep of the score thus making it a bright, lively, fast-moving musical comedy.

After a non-win season last year the grapplers came up with a 4-7-1 record this year. This is not a very impressive record for a second year team but it shows vast improvement. The number of team mem bers was smaller this year but they were a more dedicated group who gave their best. Our league meet ended with Stock bridge holding down fourth place. We had one second, four third and three fourth places for a total of forty-one points. With only two boys graduating, Mike Otis and John Allen, next year's team should again show marked improvement with the help of this year's experience. Brian Boyce remained undefeated in all his dual meet competition for the past two years. He and the rest of the boys are ex p~cted to help next ye ar's team to be a win ning one.

Diane Hazell and Faye Camp - AFFIRMATIVE TEAM Patrice Weddon and Gary Horst - NEGATIVE TEAM

This year's debate topic was, Resolved: That the Foreign Aid Program of the United States be limited to non-military assistance. Since this is a question in everyone's mind and a world prob lem, the debate team found the topic very interesting. There were only four regular debates this season: O'Rafferty, Holt, Waverly, and School of the Blind. Several of these debates were postponed because of snow. On February 8th the debate team traveled to Western Parma for the District Tournaments. Stockbridge debated the School of the Blind, Western Parma, and Concord. The team won three out of six debates. Since two other schools won four, the team did not go to the Regional Debates. Debate is the teacher of many things, namely; organization, speech, and poise. Debate is not all fun. It is a lot of hard work, but time spent in debate is very worthwhile.

As the doors of another school year begin to close, we, the staff, hope you have enjoyed your reminiscence through the 1967 Yearbook. Our appreciation goes to the administration, the facul ty and the advertisers who help to make this book possible. The biggest thanks goes to the student body for you make this book; the yearbook is YOU. These same doors will reopen next fall for all those who are eager to better themselves for the waiting world. Another year, another group of students, another round of activities and studies awaits all of us. It is with mixed feelings that we bring this year's activities to a close but it has been a good year and we feel that this book proves it. The Staff
