The number of books he’s read can only be matched by the number of books he threatens to write in a year. Stephen Henning put up with living with me for a couple of years, and (barely) complained. Maybe, one day, a couple of his truly fantastic TV proposals might see the light of day. I’m sure I’ve missed some people out, but you’ll just have to believe me when I say ‘Thanks’. iv Abstract From the Gododdin to Gary Hughes, from Sir Thomas Malory to Bernard Cornwell, from Tintagel Castle to the Camelot Theme Park, the Arthurian myth has continued to exert a fascination and pull over the centuries. Different interpretations are appropriated by different cultures, subcultures and individuals as a marker of distinction, yet they find themselves tied to the dominant chivalric myth even when positioning themselves against this form of Arthur. This thesis looks at the cultural-historical conditions that result in certain Arthurian texts being valued more highly than others, and argues that contrary to Barthes’s assertion of ‘The Death of the Author’, Foucault’s author function allows for an understanding as to why the Romance chivalric version of the myth as exemplified by Malory has come to be dominant. By showing how Arthurian signifiers are ‘floating signifiers’ that allow meanings to be contested at any one time according to the taste-cultures concerned, this thesis looks at how the Arthurian myth is appropriated as a means of distinction for cultures, subcultures, and individuals. This contest over meanings sees different sections of society attempting to naturalise and value certain interpretations of the Arthurian myth as ‘authentic’ in order to legitimate their own taste-culture. Drawing on Bourdieu’s notions of Cultural and Symbolic Capital, and Fields of Production, it is possible to look at how the Arthurian myth is used to naturalise the position-taking strategies of both producers and consumers. Analysis consists not only of certain representative ‘Sites of Arthur’, but also of inter-texts surrounding these works, and audience research in relation to specific case studies. The thesis focuses not only on the response within the cultural fields themselves, but also at how Arthur is appropriated by those outside of the respective fields, and looks at the cultural contexts in which Arthur is sited. While I wouldn’t put the band in my own personal Top 10 of 1970’s rockers, they are pretty good. I think it is a shame I wasn’t musically aware in the 70’s because I probably would have liked the band. They’ve got a lively and energetic sound tied to that particular era and it does keep the ears engaged, even during the first half of the disc where the quality of the recording isn’t even as good as some bootlegs I’ve listened to over the years. The audio quality is the biggest problem I had with the entire disc. I think if you are going to reissue this type of album, you really need to make the sound more Official Site presentable than what a typical bootlegger could accomplish. You want to check out tracks like “Detroit Girls”, “Any Way That You Want It”, and “Cherry Baby” in particular, but surprisingly at least to me, each song is pretty good.     UFO – Support: VANJA SKY – Kulturhaus Neuruppin – 02.08.2019 - Text: Mike Kempf - Fotos: Holger Ott Hinter dem Slogan 'Last Orders – 50th Anniversary Tour' steht keine geringe Band, als die legendäre britische Hard-Rock- Kapelle UFO. Etliche Millionen der 22 Studioalben von den 'Außerirdischen' flogen über die Ladentheke, darunter Songs wie „Doctor, Doctor“, „Rock Bottom“ oder „Only You Can Rock Me“, um nur einige zu nennen, verankerten sich unlöschbar in die Rockgeschichte und dürfte so ziemlich jedem Rockmusikfan bekannt sein. Das sie nun am 2. August in Neuruppin eines ihrer letzten Konzerte überhaupt bestreiten sollen, lässt bei uns, HOLGER und mir, keine zwei Meinungen aufkommen und ehe wir uns versehen, befinden wir uns im gut gefüllten Saal des Kulturhauses der FONTANE-Stadt. Doch bevor die 1969 gegründete Band ihr Konzert eröffneten, enterte gegen 20:00 Uhr die junge Kroatin VANJA SKY die Bühne, die uns vor ihrem Soundcheck noch für ein Interview zur Verfügung stand. Mit dem Tieftonspezialisten ARTJOM FELDSTER, dem Hau-Drauf-Experten HANS JAKOB SCHÜLER und dem 'Zweitgitarristen' ROBERT WENDT wusste VANJA spitzen-mäßige Begleitmusiker an ihrer Seite. Darauf aufbauend bekamen die Fans eine völlig losgelöste Frontfrau geboten, die sich zu meiner Überraschung mehr als Rhythmusgitarristin, dafür aber erwartungsgemäß als ausdrucksstarke Sängerin in Szene setzte. Somit avancierte der mir bis dato ebenfalls noch unbekannte WENDT nicht als 'Zweit-', sondern eher als erstklassiger Sologitarrist. Er und Drummer HANS SCHÜLER mussten in ihrer Jugend viel vom Woodstock-Feeling aufgesogen haben, denn sowohl von ihrem optischen Outfit, Schlaghose und Retro-Shirt, als auch aus rein musikalischer Sicht, bewegten sie sich viel im Stil der glorreichen 60/70-ziger Rockepoche.
