NOW OFFERING INDEPENDENT SERVICES AND SHORT TERM STAYS The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley is now in its 20th year. We will celebrate our anniversary sometime during 2018.Over the past 20 years, The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley has developed into a premier senior living residence, meeting the needs of countless older adults from Hermitage and surrounding communities. Since 1998, The Ridgewood has offered a variety of accommodation and assistance with daily living activities. Most residents, who move to The Ridgewood, move with the intention of a long-term residency. Staff and management acknowledge that some individuals who inquire at The Ridgewood are independent and don’t need assistance but are interested in supportive services such as meals, housekeeping, and transportation. There is also an attraction to living in an environment where neighbors are close and residents have easy access to staff for emergen- cies or urgent needs. We also realize that sometimes when a couple moves into the residence that one may need assis- tance and the other may not. In response to these inquiries and types of situations, we have developed INDEPENDENT SERVICES for residents who do not require personal care or assistance with daily living activities. A list of services provided and fees for these services are available in our office or by calling 724-347-0998. In addition, on occasion we receive inquiries from families who are looking for short term support. Often this arises when family are primary caregivers for a loved one and are planning to be away from home or may need support for a designated period of time. We are happy to introduce SHORT TERM STAYS, where an individual stays with us in a furnished apartment for a limited time period. In this case, the resident only needs to bring with them personal items such as clothing and toiletries, as well as items of personal interest such as magazines, books and pictures. All other furnishings and accessories are provided and the daily rate is all inclusive (private apartment, meals, housekeeping, some transportation, personal care, laundry, cable, and telephone). All residents enjoy the social activities that take place throughout each month and the special events held each year. These added, independent services and short term stays are designed to meet the needs of our seniors. Additional services offered are St. Paul’s Without Walls private duty home care and VNA Alliance home health care. Both give op- portunity for residents to age in place. If you are interested in these or other services we have to offer please call us at 724-347-0998. We do have apartments available and encourage you to call soon. We are hosting an open house on Sunday, February 19th from 2-4:00 p.m. for those interested in touring and learning more about The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. 2017 Dates to Remember February 14, 2017 - Sweethearts at 90 June 11 - The 15th Annual Strawberry Festival & Auction August 6 - 15th Annual Family Picnic December 10 - 15th Annual Family Christmas Tea Partners in Senior Care, Inc. - Board of Trustees Mr. Jonathan Bailey Ms. Sally Kaiser Ms. Marianna Stoneburner Mr. Robert Beach Mrs. LuAnn King Mr. Jeffrey A. RESIDENT FEATURE Sarah “Sally” Clarke moved to The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley in Febru- ary of 2016. Her family is very happy with her decision to make the move. Sally celebrated her 101st birthday on February 27, 2016. Some of her fam- ily got to see her now home for the first time and they were very pleased with her accommodations and services and with the staff. Sally is originally from the Pittsburgh area. She is a registered nurse and worked in various places over a 25 year career including Pittsburgh Southside Hospital, in public health and as a school nurse. Her husband Frances died in 1963. Sarah has two sons – Bob and William who visit her regularly. William lives in Pittsburgh and Bob lives in Hermitage. During a visit with Bob he shared his perspective saying, “Socializing is key for my mom, a variety of activities in which she can engage. Mom loves to read and knit and enjoys music and televi- sion. Also, knowing she has 24/7 support from the staff is vital. It gives us a great sense of security.” Bob also commented on the residence saying that it is always immaculate and that residents and staff are always friendly. Staff says that Sally adapted very easily. She enjoys her table mates in the dining room. She especially enjoys her bananas and peanut butter. Sally cares for her own needs and only calls upon staff when she needs a little help. Sally says she continues to enjoy life and contributes long life to God and her Pictured is Sally with her son Bob. happy family! 3 4 Christmas Tea 2016 5 5 The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley is greatly appreciative for the individuals, couples, churches and businesses who have generously supported our residents through monetary and in-kind donations. • The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley a Senior Living Residence
2017 in Review The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley A Senior Living Residence Winter 2018 Winter 2017 By Samantha Solyan, Administrator This fall, I gladly accepted the position of Administrator of The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley and thank the Board of Trustees for placing their confidence in me. I have served the residents here at The Ridgewood for eight years, first as a personal care attendant and later as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 2016, I attended administra- tor training for Personal Care Homes and am happy to put my education and experi- ence into practice to better serve our residents and families. This past year, we celebrated milestone events – our 15th annual Christmas Tea and Family Picnic. These events provide opportunities for residents and their families and friends to enjoy traditional gatherings. Our Chef, Vicky Pregi, and her team do an amazing job of preparing feasts for everyone to enjoy. In 2017, we also hosted our 15th annual Strawberry Festival and Auction – an event designed to attract people to our campus to enjoy its beautiful gathering spaces both indoors and out. In addition, this event raises funds to support our benevolent and unfunded care, for residents at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley that may not be able to cover all of the costs of their care during their years of residency. Since its inception, this event has been a huge success due to the support of our staff and volunteers. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers and staff. Many family members and friends of The Ridge- wood at Shenango Valley give of their time to support our many activities and events.

Until now, all the action has been confined to the pages of an obscure campus journal, but it would not be prudent, we think, to ignore the incidents to date as insignifi- cant. Of course, it is no great secret that Tech men place their own co- eds only slightly higher in social esteem, generally, than inanimate ob- jects, and it has rarely occurred that a cooed has confused one of her male colleagues with Prince Charming, but never before. in our recol- lection, has either side publicly denounced the other in words. It would seem that serious consideration on the part of our keener official minds is warranted before this situation gets out of hand. As noted above, it has already been exploited by the baser element of the campus press, and, if unchecked, there's no telling what manner of trouble these glee- ful irrepressibles will foment. The very scheme of coeducation is (lues- tioned.

  • Ridgewood News Winter Dec2019
It’s hard to believe that very soon we will be celebrating the New Year – 2020! However, it’s also exciting as we think about the possibilities during this New Year for our senior living community – The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. During 2019, our Board of Trustees took a long, hard look at the changes we are experiencing in health care and aging in our region. Individuals moving to The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley are arriving when they are much older and often times much more frail, having greater needs. We have seen an increase in memory issues in older adults as well as changes in the care that individuals with memory issues require. All of these cause us to evaluate our mission as well as our services and accommodations. Our hope is always to sit in the forefront of the ever-changing needs of our seniors and to be willing to change as the needs and desires of our seniors change. So, in response to the changes we’re witnessing, including increases in dementia and memory issues, we have found it appropriate to Robin Knight, Vice President of Personal advance our senior living community. Care Services & Administrator First, we’ve enhanced our security in and around our building. We have enclosed our courtyard making it more useful and secure for all residents. Our entrances have also received an update in security adding more safety to our building. Our new emergency assistance system has improved the communication for all residents who find they need help from our team. This emergency assistance system makes staff more accessible and quicker to respond.
