    Safety & Security on Campus Welcome to one of the safest and most attractive community college campuses in the country. Butler County Community College is home to approximately 5,000 credit students each year who participate in educational programs while enjoying the safety and security of a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. All the information contained in this brochure is aimed at your safety and welfare. You help maintain your own safety on campus by following all safety and security policies, and by using common sense safety practices such as walking in groups; reporting suspicious activity; locking your vehicle; remaining aware of weather conditions; and by securing your personal items appropriately. Everyone on campus should be safety conscious and follow safety procedures. About the College Butler County Community College, founded in 1965, was the first community college in western Pennsylvania. More than 1,100 full and part-time faculty and staff members are employed at the College. Approximately 25,000 people attend classes and utilize the facilities annually. The Facilities Butler County Community College is located on 329 acres just south of the city of Butler. The College's 17 modern buildings are protected by specialized electronic security systems that provide 24-hour coverage. The College facilities are available for community and student use throughout the year on a regular schedule. The campus is closed overnight and on holidays since students do not reside on campus in dormitories. All students commute to campus either by private vehicle, in a carpool, or via local bus service from Butler. The Executive Director of Operations oversees the maintenance of a safe physical environment by regularly inspecting campus lighting systems, walkways and roadways, and promptly repairing any defective areas that may affect the safety, health or welfare of students, employees and visitors.

Arbitron, the national radio ratings company, reports that more than 90 percent of Americans ages 12 or older listen to radio each week, “a higher penetration than television, magazines, newspapers, or the Internet.”1 Although listening hours have declined slightly in recent years, Americans listened on average to 19 hours of radio per week in 2006.2 Among radio formats, the combined news/talk format (which includes news/talk/ information and talk/personality) leads all others in terms of the total number of sta- tions per format and trails only country music in terms of national audience share.3 Through more than 1,700 stations across the nation, the combined news/talk format is estimated to reach more than 50 million listeners each week.4 As this report will document in detail, conservative talk radio undeniably dominates the format: ß Our analysis in the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top fi ve commercial station owners reveals that 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive.

    2017 in Review The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley A Senior Living Residence Winter 2018 Winter 2017 By Samantha Solyan, Administrator This fall, I gladly accepted the position of Administrator of The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley and thank the Board of Trustees for placing their confidence in me. I have served the residents here at The Ridgewood for eight years, first as a personal care attendant and later as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 2016, I attended administra- tor training for Personal Care Homes and am happy to put my education and experi- ence into practice to better serve our residents and families. This past year, we celebrated milestone events – our 15th annual Christmas Tea and Family Picnic. These events provide opportunities for residents and their families and friends to enjoy traditional gatherings. Our Chef, Vicky Pregi, and her team do an amazing job of preparing feasts for everyone to enjoy. In 2017, we also hosted our 15th annual Strawberry Festival and Auction – an event designed to attract people to our campus to enjoy its beautiful gathering spaces both indoors and out. In addition, this event raises funds to support our benevolent and unfunded care, for residents at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley that may not be able to cover all of the costs of their care during their years of residency. Since its inception, this event has been a huge success due to the support of our staff and volunteers. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers and staff. Many family members and friends of The Ridge- wood at Shenango Valley give of their time to support our many activities and events.

The Stark County Health Needs Assessment Committee’s involvement with the 2011 Stark Poll was funded by Alliance Community Hospital, Aultman Health Foundation, and Mercy Medical Center and was coordinated by the Stark County Health Department. The questions focused on the following areas: overall needs and health, general physical and mental health, access to care, immunizations, smoking and tobacco use, alcohol consumption, prescription medication abuse, obesity and access to healthy food, exercise and texting while driving. Where possible, comparative data from previous Stark Poll administrations are included throughout the analysis. Overall Needs and Health First, all respondents were asked what they thought was the greatest unmet health need in Stark County.
