PPGCOM ESPM // SÃO PAULO // COMUNICON 2016 (13a15 de outubro de 2016) IN CONCERT: performance e experiência estética “limítrofe” de um concerto ao vivo1 Miriam Barros2 Universidade Federal da Paraíba Resumo O trabalho de iamamiwhoami, projeto audiovisual independente da Suécia, explora formas peculiares de construção narrativa voltadas para o meio digital, com destaque para o IN CONCERT, primeira performance considerada “ao vivo” pela banda. Utilizando conceitos dos estudos de performance levantados por Diana Taylor (2013), Marvin Carlson (2010) e Richard Schechner (2006), dialogamos com textos de Martin Seel (2014) e John Dewey (2005) acerca da experiência estética para analisarmos a cadeia de acontecimentos que levaram ao IN CONCERT. Nossa hipótese é a de que artefatos audiovisuais “limítrofes” como IN CONCERT parecem reformular os conceitos de presença - que já não se limita ao corpo físico -, de lugar – que não se resume ao espaço real -, de tempo e de incorporação, envolvendo as artes da performance. Introdução Na internet, a informação abundante unida à facilidade de acesso e aos recursos oferecidos fazem do ciberespaço um lugar propício para que, além dos artistas já consolidados na indústria musical, figuras emergentes encontrem um ambiente favorável para disseminar conteúdos audiovisuais como artes de performance, gerando uma memória que retroalimenta seus projetos e instaura formas peculiares de consumo. Interrogating Composition in the Age of Remix: the role of format in musical composition Anastasios Sarakatsanos post-viva submission for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Royal Holloway, University of London 2016 Abstract This thesis is concerned with composing audiovisual mashup pieces that involve filmed music performance and remix practices. I present here a number of audiovisual mashups I composed by separately filming and recording clips that were produced in other contexts and by later subsuming them into a new compositional form. These pieces, produced between 2011 and 2016, range from music clip inserts and music videos featured in television programmes, to urban development documentaries and self-commissioned projects. Focusing on hybrid audiovisual art-forms closely related to music videos, I examine the work of contemporary audiovisual artists, Ophir Kutiel (‘Kutiman’), Jack Conte (‘Pomplamoose’) and Mark Johnson (‘Playing for Change’), focusing on projects produced between 2008 and 2014, in relation to their composition techniques and methods of production and distribution. My research has included an examination of the way that music functions in this particular audiovisual context. As well as presenting my portfolio of compositions, I also perform a close textual analysis of certain specific samples from the portfolio, identifying the methods and techniques I adopted and adapted from the aforementioned artists and reflecting on their use and effects in my own compositions. Over the last decade, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of music artists who include video in their work and make it available through online streaming of their music, especially on audiovisual platforms such as YouTube. -

Fall 2014. https://sites.google.com/site/projectorjournal/ “The Work of iamamiwhoami in the Age of Networked Transmission” On January 31, 2010, the science fiction author William Gibson hit send on a tweet1 that read, “that putative Lady GaGa Virus is as seriously Footage-y as anything I’ve seen on YouTube.” The “Lady GaGa Virus” turns out to have nothing at all to do with Lady GaGa. It is a series of online videos that are produced by a collective called iamamiwhoami that is led by Swedish singer Jonna Lee, who had a few pop records prior to this project. Despite no traceable connection to GaGa, the iamamiwhoami videos are, in fact, “seriously Footage-y.” The production and circulation strategies employed by iamamiwhoami bear an eerie resemblance to those of the anonymous online videos called “the footage” in Gibson’s 2003 novel Pattern Recognition. Gibson’s fictional footage is a series of thirty-five video clips that are produced anonymously, released onto the internet, and spawn a devoted fan community. The quest to unveil the identity of the maker of the footage is the mystery that drives much of the plot of the novel. As with the fictional footage, the iamamiwhoami videos are produced and shared via unconventional means and are part of a larger viral structure that includes the media objects, discourse about them, remixes, and other elements of fan production. -

Sammanfattning Inspirerad av iamamiwhoamis audiovisuella verk skrev jag föreställningen Fill The Air With Screams som genomfördes den 27 oktober 2017. Det som intresserade mig hos iamamiwhoami var deras användning av symboler och i denna uppsats undersöks symbolspråket i deras verk bounty och jämförs med mitt eget verk. Syftet är att genomföra ett sceniskt verk utifrån ett audiovisuellt symbolspråk. Frågeställningen är: Hur kan ett audiovisuellt symbolspråk användas i en scenisk föreställning? Det audiovisuella verket tolkades med denotation och konnotation, dessutom analys av texterna och den emotionella strukturen. Artistens liv och omvärldens tolkningar togs in och sist jämfördes verket med den sceniska föreställningen. Slutsatsen är att Fill The Air With Screams har mycket gemensamt med iamamiwhoamis verk bounty men att deras symbolspråk är mer utvecklat och bygger upp en värld på ett mer lyckat sätt. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur skogen kan användas för att gestalta en bild av identiteten. För att göra det analyseras musikvideor av Fever Ray och Iamamiwhoami. Gestaltningen består av två noveller. I dessa undersöks relationen till skogen på ett mer individuellt plan. Metoden är mer sökande än teoretiserande. Uppsatsen analyserar musikvideor ur ett genusperspektiv, som bilder och metaforer. Teoretiker som används är bland annat Jean Baudrillard, Timothy Morton och Judith Butler. Från deras teorier undersöks vilka värderingar och antaganden som kan sägas ligga till grund för representationen av identiteten och skogen. Resultatet är bilden av en värld som är splittrad och ovillig att komma till konkreta ståndpunkter. Å ena sidan visar musikvideorna individer som arbetar med kulturellt betingade bilder av genus och skogen och försöker göra dem till sina egna. Å andra sidan syns en vilja att röra sig bort från dem. -
